Chapter 39 - First Enemy
Chapter 39 - First Enemy
All of them started walking together down the corridor and towards the elevator. They were not stupid and knew that sweeping the building floors one by one was the most pointless thing to do, considering that their arrival was clearly expected and that they were trapped here. The first order of business that they had was to find the marquess and Peter.
Their steps echoed through the walls, and their eyes were fixated forward. Sweat formed on their eyebrows, and tension filled the air. All of a sudden, they stopped and looked at each other.
"Did you feel that? That presence? I've never felt something like that. And it looks like it is coming this way.", Michael stopped for a second.
"What do we do now? Are we strapped for time, Lucas? Or can you control it?", Praneeth looked at Lucas.
"We have a few hours.. One of us can face the thing that is coming towards us, while the rest will move forward.", he said.
"One of us? Who will it be?", Eva asked cautiously.
"Once we see the enemy, and if the enemy is powerful enough to warrant this division, we will decide based on our strengths.", he said and looked ahead.
By now, the thuds of the enemy approaching were loud and clear. It was as if a giant was coming through the corner. Lucas' fangs were barred and his hands had extended claws. Behind him, Praneeth's eye was open, and Raphael had a large sword in his hand.
Then, it came out. A monstrosity of some sort. It had purple eyes and a slimy exterior. It was huge, and every step that it took left a disgusting mark, as well as a loud thud. The council members looked at the monster with shock.
"Impossible. I cannot recognize this monster. It was as if this was never seen before in the history annals.", Arthur staggered.
Praneeth calmed down and looked at Michael. "Michael, what do you even know about this Marquess? Is she famous for, well, scientific experimentation on supernatural creatures? Because I can feel the power of more than one god in that, well, thing, and the gods certainly did not intend to create that."
"I have no idea what you are talking about. She never messed with my pack, and I never messed with hers. But, what gods do you sense? Which supernatural creatures were mashed into that?", Michael asked.
"Werewolves, ghosts, and ghouls. As for-", Praneeth suddenly jumped up and retreated back. In his place, a slimy extension of the monster clutched nothing but air.
"This is for later. Let us take care of that first.", Praneeth said.
The monster did not hesitate any further and started swinging blows at the members. Seeing this, Raphael said, "It is better if only one person takes care of a monster like this. Its huge size means that it has an advantage dealing with more people."
"So then, you will deal with it? We will go further.", Lucas asked. Raphael nodded, and he brandished his sword. His pupils turned red in an instant. They were not the same red as Lucas', but rather a more royal sort of red. At that same moment, the sword in his hands also changed, The long sword started catching fire, and flames decorated the exterior.
The monster he was facing roared. It moved forward and attacked Raphael. He quickly raised his sword and defended the attack. The sharpness of the sword was such that it just slit through the arm like it was tofu. The fist came off and fell on the ground, right next to Raphael.
The ground sizzled, and Raphael looked at it with shock. "The monster is made of corrosive acid! What the hell went in its creator's head?", he shouted.
Taking advantage of Raphael's agro, the rest of the team jumped over the monster and started running further into the building. Seeing this, the monster turned to attack them with its left hand.
"No you don't!", Raphel shouted as he jumped up into the air. His flaming sword came crashing into the remaining arm of the monster. It came crashing down again and melted the ground that it fell on.
"Haha, now what are you going to do without your hands?", Raphael laughed.
The monster looked at Raphael now. Its vaguely shaped head looked confused as it turned back and forth between the people who were escaping, and the one who was facing it. Its arms, at least what were left of them, started wiggling. The slimy hands started extending forward, and tentacled protruded out of the openings in the arm. All of them twirled around, and they collided to form the arm itself.
The arms had basically regenerated, and the monster roared again.
"You have got to be kidding me.", Raphael cursed.
