Extra Stat Point ( SP ) - 5
Max put his extra SP into the Intelligent and Agility stat, increasing them to 7 and 10 respectively.
Max had planned to invest all the SP into the Intelligent stat, but for some reason, he had a strong urge to increase his Agility stat.
He didn't thought that would do him any harm to raise his stats anyway, his build might change accordingly, but he would still grow stronger.
Scrape!
The sound of a chair being pulled out jolted him from his thoughts.
Turning towards his right, a familiar figure with red hair appeared.
His eyes met his scary gaze and he shivered.
"Aren't you the newbie?" He said as the scary look in his eyes disappeared.
"Ha ..ha.., I will appreciate it if you can call me by my name. I am Max Edwinson," Max replied with an awkward laugh and stretched his hand out.
"I am Wilson Scarlet," He answered, ignoring Max's gesture.
"Tsk, I hate this kind of fancy stuff. A true man does not need stuff like this," He said with a sneer on his face.
"I just wanted to thank you for earlier." Max thanked him for his help.
"You don't need to do that. I just couldn't stand those scheming bastards. They are just too irritating." He spoke with clear disgust on his face.
He could totally get him.
"I regret not using all of my strength from the start, who would have thought that he would just run away before I could even warm up?" He said as regret filled his eyes.
Suddenly he shifted his gaze onto me before continuing with a smile.
"To be frank, I didn't like you at all the time I saw you in the dorm. Looking at you, I only felt disgust. It felt as if cowardliness was oozing out of your body. I felt you were the same as those bastards, scheming for personal gain."
Hearing him singing his 'praises,' his face twitched.
But his next sentence made him sweat.
"I was planning to beat the shit out of you before throwing you out of the dorms."
"But, today you changed my mind. I saw you stepping out to help Fatty. You proved yourself."
'Thank god, no not god. I should be proud of myself. My conscience just saved me from a disaster.'
He noticed Wilson raising his fist before continuing.
"You are a good guy. I acknowledge you. If you ever need any help just ask me."
Max raised his fist, giving him a fist bump.
It looked like he got another friend.
'Academy life might not be that bad after all.' That thought crossed his mind and a smile leaked out of his face.
...
An hour later.
The class ended and after giving an excuse to Wilson, Max slipped out of the Academy.
Hailing a cab, He reached Arcane's Central area.
After paying the cab driver, he looked at his purse and let out a sigh.
It looked like he would have no money for a while, but he couldn't help it. he needed to buy some stuff.
A mask, a cloak, and a strap for holding his weapons.
All those things were necessary. The first two things were needed since he was planning to investigate the demons.
Doing that as a mercenary would obviously make it easier and with the help of a mask, he would be able to hide his identity, too.
After all, how can he be at ease if a title like 'Demon Slayer' gets attached to him? The demons might chase him everywhere.
A smile appeared on his face. He couldn't help but imagine himself standing on a pile of dead bodies with a sword in his hand and giving a cool and heroic pose.
But his imagination was broken when he heard the system's sweet and pleasant voice.
«Warning: Demonic aura detected within 100m»
«Reporting to Host, the presence of a Demonic entity has been confirmed. It is advised to move with caution»
Looking at the notification, the hairs on his body rose.
'You gotta be kidding me.'
Even though he knew there were Demons in Arcane. That was the last place he thought them to be.
How was that possible for them to infiltrate the city's central area.
A Terrifying hypothesis formed in his mind and sweat started to drip off of his forehead.
The only thing he could imagine was that Demons were being supported by some huge figure of the society.
After all, he couldn't think of any other way for them to infiltrate the city centre, bypassing both the Mage Association and the Guild's Union.
...
..
No, He couldn't reach any conclusion that quickly.
The System has still given only a warning. If he remembered correctly, it should be able to notify him of any incoming threat until he reaches Lv 10.
'So, there is still some time until something goes wrong.'
Agh!
'Why am I thinking about this? I can't do anything about it.'
He was ,at that time, too weak to get involved in that mess. He would die even before being able to do anything.
So, he decided to stay away from the mess.
But as he got out of his thoughts, his body froze.
He saw a small family of three people.
It looked like the parents had taken their daughter out for a walk.
Looking at the girl and her parents reminded him of his parents and his little sister Lilly.
Max turned around in a circle.
..
..
Damn it
'Now, I am unable to avoid the current circumstances.'
There were so many people there. If any disaster struck, he couldn't even imagine the number of deaths before help could even arrive.
It looked like he needed to speed up his plans.
.....
After purchasing his things from an ordinary equipment shop, he walked into an alleyway and came out with the mask and cloaked on.
[Mask: It is a white mask of an Oni with two horns]
It looked pretty good, he guessed. After all, the mask was pretty badass.
he could probably intimidate his opponent only with his looks.
After getting all set, he started walking towards the Magic Association Branch of Arcane.
One can only become a Mercenary after getting registered at the Association.
One does not need to even disclose their identity. It's because Mercenaries are considered to be supporting bodies of Mages.
As all the strong Mages were usually associated with either the Association or Union, they had the duty of protecting the continent and its citizens.
In such cases, Mercenaries were the ones who performed various tasks to help and support the Mages as well as the citizens.
Some of those tasks included exploration of Orena, Searching of Mana treasures, assisting mages in case of need.
All those tasks were very dangerous. So the Mage Association didn't care about the identity of the person as long as they could have an extra expendable pawn.
....
Finally after walking a while, a huge building came into his sight.
Looking at the huge tower, only a single thought crossed his mind.
'They really are the Overlords of the Mage World.'
After appreciating the tower for a while, he started walking towards the entrance of the Association.
.....
Inside the Association
Whoa! , that place really was huge. He could see a lot of people coming in and out of the entrance.
Judging from their robes, they seemed to be high level Mages.
Looking around, Max tried to find the sign towards the registration counter.
Found it.
Finally the sign which he was looking for entered his eyes.
As he approached the counter, a beautiful lady with a voluptuous figure could be seen.
"Hello, Sir. How may I help you?" She spoke with a smile.
Max couldn't help but got impressed with her calm behaviour. After all, if he was in her place, he wouldn't be able to maintain such an expression, seeing a person dressed liked him.
It was clear that she had experienced a similar situation or she was very talented.
"Sir?" She spoke again not hearing any reply from him.
If it was a few days back, he might have got flustered talking to such a beauty. But then, that wasn't enough. He had seen how cruel people could be.
"I want to register as a Mercenary." Max spoke with a little change in his voice trying to make that a bit hoarse.
Hearing him, she sized him up out of the corner of her eyes before replying.
"Sir, You will need to give a name to register yourself. It can either be your original name or an alias."
It was obvious that he was going to use an alias he had prepared long ago.
"I am Shura."
