Chapter 479: Payback
"What's wrong?" Axel asked Max seeing that he had momentarily stopped.
They had almost reached the place where Lear and Mark were. From the information they received earlier, there seemed to be an indoor stadium which had been taken over by beasts. Lear seemed to have found rescue dummies inside the place...but it was useless to have them until Max arrived.
After all, the dummies must be with you until the end of the competition to truly earn the point. Hence, a base was an urgent need.
But with Max, they could take it at ease by storing it into his spirit world.
Max looked at Axel and spoke, "It seems Lisa is in a bit of trouble…"
He had been conversing with Lisa just now and was made aware of her current situation.
They began to move again and Axel couldn't help but ask, "So, we are going after her?"
"No...there is no need to. It's a good opportunity for her. Besides, I already have taken precautions…she should be fine..." Max replied with a calm look as they finally arrived at the place.
Axel looked at the duo who didn't seem to be in the best mood.
"What's wrong?" He asked in confusion.
Lear looked at Max and explained what had happened earlier.
"That guy...he can deceive the overseer?" Max frowned but shook his head. Something was wrong.
"He is bluffing….The overseers are not observing us every second….if they were, do you think he would dare to speak that way?" Axel said as he shook his head.
"You guys might not realise it but the formation running below us has a property to detect our vitality. They probably use it to send people to rescue us when they detect alarmingly low vitality levels….so, we are not under constant observation…" Axel further explained to them.
Max was surprised that Axel could see so much when he could barely realise the flow of energy in the formation beneath.
"So, if we can instantly kill that guy in a single blow then he would truly die without anyone being able to rescue him?" Lear asked.
Axel shook his head with a bitter smile, "I am not sure."
" I don't have much mastery yet, so I can only sense up to 5 layers in this formation. There might be something to prevent people from dying maybe..."
"Like the 3rd circle that has some kind of protection spell. If anyone's vitality goes below that, it might activate to protect the person another attack...if you can break through that barrier then you might be able to kill…if there is no further arrangement....but I don't think anyone here could break tha-" Axel stopped as he looked at Max.
He was not sure whether Max could do it or not. After all, Max could penetrate through most of the formation made using mana.
"Let's leave it at that for now...we will surely get a chance to get rid of Bayu one day…". Max said as he switched the topic.
It was still around noon but if they wanted to get the rescue dummies, it might take long. It was better to get it done before the sunset.
…
The group arrived in the vicinity of the indoor stadium. It was a giant dome-shaped building.
There were indeed a lot of beasts in the area. Somewhere were even guarding the entrance.
It seemed that the leader was one of the intelligent beasts.
Max entered stealth and flew through the air before landing on the dome.? According to Lear, there should be a glass pane somewhere around.
Max searched for a bit and found it. He then looked below and indeed saw two dummies in one of the corners of the stadium.
After seeing how the rescue dummies looked like Max released his domain and covered the entire stadium. Even though the domain across such a large area was too weak for any practical use, he was able to perceive most of the things in the area.
…
"How many rescue dummies are there?" Mark asked as he looked at Max who had just returned.
"60..."
Everyone's eyes went wide.
It was a 1000 per dummy. Then didn't it mean 60,000?
Their chances of winning will definitely go up if they could secure the dummy!!
It was easy, right?
As long as they rescued the dummies, they had earned a lot of points. But that was only because Max was with them…
If it was any other team, they would have to carry 60 dummies and protect them until the last day. That was close to impossible.
"Don't jump your horses...there is a Peak Savage Beast inside." Max poured cold water on their heads.
"Can't you deal with it?" Axel asked him.
"I can, but I won't be able to help you guys….you will be left alone to deal with the rest of the beasts…and you will have to make sure that no one interferes with my fight.." Max replied.
"And looking at how they are guarding the area, I guess they are being commanded by the leader. So it won't be like fighting an ordinary group of beasts who just act on instinct." He further added.
"Should we sneak in and retrieve the dummies..." Lear suggested.
"It's impossible to stealthily move with that many things…" Mark shot him down.
"Should one of us lure the beast out? The rest can deal with the Peak Savage Beast…" Axel asked as he looked at everyone.
"I have a better idea…" Max said with a smile.
Earlier, he had caught onto something in the distance from the top of the dome.
"Let's have them pay for your food…"
...
A group of people with the badge of West Gale Academy on their chest were sitting around. It seemed like they were taking a rest.
The leader of the group was obviously Bayu.
"The ones who have arrived today are on their way here. After gathering, we will head towards the location…" Bayu said as he looked at the rest.
"Sir, what about those people?" One of the guys suddenly asked.
"Now is not the right time. We will eventually deal with them…" Bayu replied.
"For now, we will concentrate in order to win...I need to enter the Ancient Cemetery…" Bayu said as anger flashed past his eyes.
At this moment, no one had noticed that a shadow was creeping up on them.
"Creak!"
Suddenly, a noise was heard and everyone turned their attention only to see a shadow Leopard holding a bag in its mouth.
It was one of the guy's supplies. When the person saw what was happening, he immediately stood up and pulled his weapon out.
The Shadow Leopard didn't seem too keen on fighting and immediately fled the scene.
"Stop!" The guy roared and chased after the beast.
Bayu frowned seeing what had happened and ordered one of the guys to follow after the person.
This was a mistake from Bayu. He was severely lacking the knowledge of the current era. Otherwise, with his sense of mind, he would definitely have found the beast's action to be suspicious because Shadow Leopards didn't act in this way.
