Chapter 37
Chapter 37
37 He was born for this
As soon as Zi Han disappeared at the corner of the stairwell, Zi Feiji leaned forward and whispered in a whisper that didn’t really sound like a whisper. “Have you lost your mind?” he said hating iron for not being steel.
The Bloodgarde already had targets on its back for assassinating corrupt officials and if Zi Han keeps hanging around her they will soon do the math and figure that this kid was no simpleton. Someone would eventually put the thousand five hundred puzzle piece together.
“You do realise that your grandson was born for this? I got it from you and he got it from me. He is like a killing machine,” she whispered back while occasionally glancing up the stairs to see if he was really gone.
“Wait... how do you know that? Did you.....,” asked Zi Feiji pointing at her.
Zi Xingxi who had let it slip up leaned backwards creating some distance between them just in case. Secretary K who still hadn’t managed to move away into the safe zone decided he would clear up the table as an excuse.
And he was right to do so because as angry as Zi Feiji was right now he might throw the plates out of the window like the robot housekeeper from earlier.
These plates were ceramic which was something rare in this era. Most people had plastic dinnerware on their tables because it was too flipping expensive. His heart would definitely ache if these were thrown out of the window.
Because Zi Xingxi didn’t answer right away there was a long uncomfortable silence which meant Secretary K had to be more careful when lifting the plates as the sounds of clanging dishes were even more amplified.
Who knew if those sounds would trigger both of them and act as a catalyst resulting in a massive explosion.
.....
“What did you make him do?” he asked again trying to calm his nerves but he wasn’t very good at it because his tone still sounded harsh.
Zi Xingxi knew her father won’t believe anything she said so she opened a video on her light brain and said, “You watch for yourself.”
Two seconds in and Zi Feiji was like a teapot boiling over on an induction stove. “He asked for it?” he exclaimed in disbelief.
“Yes, he did? I did not influence him in the slightest,” she said as a subconscious smile appeared on her face. The pride she felt earlier had sprung up again making her giddy.
“And you let him? It’s like a child asking to go play with a knife.... just because they asked for it it doesn’t mean you should let him. Ah, you ruined my innocent grandson,” he said as he kept watching the footage.
Zi Xingxi exclaimed a little taken aback. “I ruined him? He was the one drooling at that sniper rifle like it was a tasty piece of meat. As stubborn as he is he wouldn’t let me have any sleep until I give it to him,” she said not noticing how much pride was laced in her voice.
Zi Feiji could hear the thrill in her voice like her son had won the first prize at a science fair competition. He could swear that if she had friends Zi Xingxi would be boasting and soon he understood why.
BANG! BANG..... BANG BANG!
A series of shots were fired from the AP sniper rifle. The first one missed but the rest had the feel of a professional sharpshooter. “Fuck!” he swore as he leaned back a little but his eyes were still stuck on the movements in the video.
Even Zi Feiji had to admit his grandson was the sort of talent he would have taken in as a disciple when the Bloodgarde was still officially active but no matter how good he was he would never agree for him to join his mother.
Lost in thought he rubbed his lower lip with his thumb with an air of ‘don’t disturb’ all around him but who was Zi Xingxi? She wouldn’t give her father any peace.
“You see what I mean?..... He did all that but he was the least bit affected. He just did that but he slept like a baby and just now he was cheerfully eating his dessert.....,” said Zi Xingxi only for her father to place his index finger on his lips gesturing for her to keep silent. In polite terms, he was telling her to zip it.
Zi Xingxi kept silent as she watched her father shut down the video before saying, “He might be born for this but..... you have already lost too much and him joining the Bloodgarde just puts him at risk.” It was like buying a one-way ticket to his early grave.
“I will take great care of him, okay? He is my grandson and I will naturally protect him. You can feel at ease,” he said his expression serious.
Zi Xingxi could understand her father’s meaning but she was reluctant to give her son up. One of the reasons why she was okay with him following her into the organization was because she could still have him around.
Now that he would be staying with her father she felt a little sad. In essence, she was a classic case of separation anxiety.
As she silently sat there she unconsciously bit her lip her eyes stinging a little. Her head lowered she clenched and unclenched her fist only for a warm hand to wrap around hers in comfort.
Zi Feiji had at some point moved to sit beside her in order to comfort her. “It’s not like you don’t know where he is. This is your home as well and whenever you want to see him you can either dress up as Auntie Sheila or..... climb through the window at night. Either way, you will get to see him.”
Hearing this Zi Xingxi couldn’t help but laugh while wiping the tears that stubbornly refused to get sucked back into her eyeballs. “Why are you making me sound like a burglar going through the window at night? How can I burglarize my own home?”
Zi Feiji, “.....”
“Oh, now you are pretending like you have never done that before? You climbed through the window so many times that I had to seal them off. For a person who has a great memory, you sure are forgetful,” complained Zi Feiji wishing he could smack her upside her head to jog her memory.
On numerous occasions, she had come back home late and he had waited for her downstairs. At that time he would be waiting in the dark scaring the shit out of Zi Xingxi. She would only get to bed after getting an earful.
Unwilling to receive harsh admonishment in the middle of the night from her father she decided it was in her best interest to climb into her room through the window and it worked two times.
In the morning she would pretend like she had been in the house the entire time and just slept. Of course, she was lying but she stubbornly refused to confess.
Things went to shit on her third try. She confidently climbed through the window like cat woman only for her father’s scary face to appear in front of her.
Scared half to death she let go only for her father to pull her up by the back of her collar. Because their penthouse was high up on the top floor this was especially dangerous.
From that day onwards she never attempted to climb and get in through the window. In tacit understanding, her father sealed every window in the penthouse. Thus the days of spider woman came to an abrupt end, well, that is until now. Only that this time she would be doing it to see her son.
