Chapter 276: The Sadness in Her Heart
Yao Ran felt a little bit dizzy as she tried to catch her breath.
From Qin Jing’s quick serves and Yao Tang’s harsh counters, it was likely that she’d lose this match against them. Her eyes narrowed at her opponents, both of who looked as if they couldn’t care less about the results.
It wouldn’t be a big deal if she had lost.
However, they betted on six million yuan! Six million!
Just thinking about losing made her feel out of breath.
After serving the ball again, Yao Ran steeled her heart and directly aimed the ball at Qin Jing’s face. She made use of all her strength this time around.
This was the plan.
If Qin Jing was injured, then they’d have to suspend the match. Nobody would have to hand over the six million yuan.
If the game was suspended, after all, there wasn’t any need for the bet to continue.
However, to her surprise, the ball didn’t even have the chance to hit Qin Jing. Instead, Yao Tang had already run over to intercept it.
With a wave of her hand, she slammed the ball right back.
The ball headed straight for Yao Ran!
While Yao Tang was popular for her trick shots earlier, there was something even more sinister and powerful about this ball. It was faster, and it was obvious that she, too, had used all her strength.
Yao Ran had wanted to dodge the ball, but she knew that she couldn’t afford another point. The last thing she needed was to hand another point to the opposing team.
As she raised her racket toward it, she aimed to counter it.
What she didn’t expect was for the force of the ball to be so severe.
Yao Ran flinched as the ball clashed against her racket. The force was enough to numb her entire arm. Shaking, she let go of her racket almost immediately.
The racket clattered onto the ground.
Everyone in the audience cried out in surprise. “How could this be?” one of them screamed as they glanced back and forth from Yao Tang to Yao Ran.
The strength even surpassed Xu Xuan’s!
“Do you mind speeding this up?” Yao Tang glanced as she twirled the racket in her hand. “You still have to serve.”
“I—” Yao Ran’s face turned green as she sputtered to reply.
There was contempt behind Yao Tang’s words. It was clear that she had done that deliberately—hit the ball toward her so she wouldn’t be able to catch it.
In anger, Yao Ran grabbed her racket and hit the ball again.
However, Yao Tang naturally defeated it.
Again, they won in the second round.
After another minute and a half, the match began again.
This time, Yao Tang was given the chance to serve. However, she wasn’t giving Yao Ranor Xu Xuana chance to fight back. She sent the ball out as hard as she could.
Every single time, the ball would head straight to the ground. No one had the chance to counter.
Yao Tang won again in the third round!
The fourth round began. This time Xu Xuan served, instead of Yao Ran. Even then, the results of the match didn’t change at all. They still lost.
However, they did realize Yao Tang was more focused in this round, as compared to the last.
Yao Ran felt her entire body weaken. Six million yuan. She had just lost six million yuan. There was no energy in her eyes as she stared at the tennis court, avoiding the sympathetic gazes of her classmates.
How the hell was she going to pay that off? Did she have to sell her designer bags and shoes?
Thinking of this, she felt even sadder.
“Put the bet on my account.”
“We should go.” Yao Tang glanced at her friend. “Teacher Xiwill be in the classroom at any minute now. If we don’t head back now, we’ll be late.”
Nodding, Qin Jing followed her.
“Sister Tang,” she said. “I didn’t expect you to play tennis so well. You really surprised me. Heck, you’re probably even better than my teacher.”
“I’m all right. I got third place in the World’s Championship.”
With a shrug, she walked away.
“Huh?” Stunned, she turned around to see that Yao Tang was already walking away. She raced down the corridor to catch up with her. “Sister Tang, wait for me! Let’s go back together.”
Yao Tang sat in the classroom.
However, what she didn’t know was that the entire match had been posted on the school forum. Under that post were thousands of comments from different students.
