With fire in her eyes, Brittany smacked Isaac across the face and shoved him hard, saying, “Isaac, listen here. You’re nothing more than Daniel’s old man. Beyond that, you have no right to poke your nose into my private life!”
Brittany, fierce as a tiger, wiped the blood from the corner of her mouth. She was disgusted.
Isaac was knocked to the ground and the imprint of her hand was clear on his face as he hung his head.
He had messed up.
He wasn’t just Daniel’s father. He was also her lawfully married husband!
He stood up, casting a long shadow.

“Dad, Mom, are you guys fighting?”
The racket had woken Daniel, who came out of his room to a shocking scene. His eyes were rimmed red with fear.
Brittany hadn’t expected to wake Daniel. She pushed Isaac aside and rushed to Daniel, squatting down, “Baby, why are you awake?”
Daniel, in his cute pajamas, said shyly, “I was woken up by the noise.”
He noticed Brittany’s bleeding lip and said, “Mommy, you’re bleeding.”
Brittany shot Isaac a glare.
What the hell was that shameless guy playing at?

Brittany forced a smile, “My lip is just a little cracked. It doesn’t hurt.””
Picking up Daniel, she suggested, “How about I tell you a story?”
Daniel wasn’t stupid. He could sense something was wrong, but he didn’t say anything. He just nodded his head obediently.
Brittany took him back to his room and put him in bed, “Sweetie, I have to go on a business trip tomorrow. It might be some time before I come back. You’ll go back home with daddy tomorrow, okay?”
Business trip?
Fear flickered in Daniel’s eyes, and he clung to Brittany’s arm, “Mommy, will you come back?”
Did his mommy not like him anymore? Was he a bother, so she was leaving him again?
Brittany saw the fear in his eyes but also his effort to appear brave. It broke her heart.
“Of course.” She climbed into bed and said, “I really have to go on a business trip. It’ll probably be for about a week. You’ll wait for me at home, okay?”
Daniel bit his lip, “Can I call you?”
“Of course.” Brittany nodded, “Every night, you can call me for an hour, okay?”
Satisfied, Daniel snuggled up to Brittany, listening to her voice, and fell asleep peacefully.
After Daniel fell asleep, Brittany kissed his cheek and then left the room.
Isaac was still there.
The handprint on his face was too obvious Brittany’s hand was shaking, “Take Daniel with you tomorrow.”
Isaac’s face changed. He followed her instinctively, “Where are you going?”
Leaving again?
How long was it going to be that time? Five years? Ten years? A lifetime?
Brittany sneered, “What? Are you planning to lock me up again?”
Isaac’s face changed again, “I didn’t mean that.”
He said hesitantly, “I know I messed up five years ago. I won’t do it again. I just…”
“About a week/ Brittany didn’t want to argue anymore, “Isaac, unless I say so, don’t set foot in my house again.”
Watching her leave, Isaac stood silently for a moment, then touched the handprint on his face and let out a soft laugh.
The next morning.
Mia packed Daniel’s bags, and Emily took him away.
“Ms. Dustin.” Emily handed her a box of pastries and said, “These are your favorites. Take them with you for the journey.”
Not wanting to refuse Emily’s kindness, Brittany accepted, “Thank you.”
As she watched Daniel leave, Brittany picked up her suitcase and left.
That was Brittany’s second visit to H city.
After they arrived in H city, they all went to the hotel, checked in, took a short break, and then got to work.
