Chapter 847

The Imperial City.

Grace returned from the garden, weary yet content. Emily approached her with a look of concern,

“Grace, you really ought to take it easy. Your health can’t take all this strain.”

Despite her frailty, Grace was relentless in tending to her flowers, a passion that was taking its toll on

her well-being.

“It’s alright,” Grace reassured her with a dismissive wave.

She set down her watering can and began to ascend the grand staircase, her back to the world, with

Emily trailing behind.

“Grace,” Emily began hesitantly, “there’s word from Craneville. Someone’s digging into the past.”

Grace paused, her hand tightening on the banister. “Who?”

“It’s unclear at the moment.” Emily sighed deeply, “Could it be that the old secrets are leaking out?”

“That’s impossible,” Grace shook her head firmly, “The matters of the past were concealed with the

utmost care. No one should be able to unearth them.”

“Ensure our people are cautious. We can’t afford any unwanted discoveries,” Grace instructed before

continuing her climb.

“Understood,” replied Emily.

The door closed, and Grace released a heavy breath, tainted with the weight of her thoughts.

Years ago, desperate to extend Pete’s life, she had invested fortunes in dubious medical research.

To her dismay, the treatments that promised life extension were a poisonous double-edged sword, one

that eventually led to a dreadful calamity.

Grace stood by the window, her gaze stretching into the darkness of the night, where the silhouette of

the mountains lay shrouded in mystery.

Brittany arrived back in Imperial City but didn’t head home. Instead, she checked into a five-star hotel

and fired up her laptop. An email awaited her, bearing Charles’s latest findings.

After digesting the information, Brittany spent the rest of the night at Bri-jeweled Studio.

The next day, she stepped out of the hotel to find Isaac waiting nearby.

“Why didn’t you come home?” he asked, the concern evident in his voice.

Isaac had planned a welcome back dinner the night before, but Brittany hadn’t shown up. He had

tracked her down to the hotel.

Was she upset over something concerning Joie?

“I was tired, just needed a good rest,” Brittany met his gaze, her voice tinged with exhaustion.

Isaac, though skeptical of her explanation, refrained from pressing further, fearing that pushing too hard

might drive her back into her shell.

He draped his jacket over her shoulders. “Shall I take you home?”

“Okay, let’s also swing by the studio.”

Brittany clearly had something on her mind. Isaac could tell it wasn’t anger over Joie’s issues; he

suspected work troubles instead.

“Was the business trip that rough?” he probed.

“Actually, everything went smoothly. The project’s partnership agreement is all signed,” Brittany replied

as she buckled her seat belt. “It’s just… returning to Craneville stirred up some unpleasant memories.”

Isaac’s grip on the steering wheel tightened imperceptibly.

Those five years Brittany spent in Craneville were the thickest wall between them. In the early days of

their reconciliation, Isaac would be haunted by dreams of her in Craneville, clinging to life in sickness.

How desperate and pained she must have felt, and he, as her husband, had been no help at all.

He still felt a deep sense of guilt.

“I’m sorry,” he said suddenly. “If I’d known about those five years sooner…”

“It wasn’t your fault,” Brittany cut him off, shaking her head. She had long since forgiven. him. After all,

Isaac had his reasons back then, and if she had forgiven him, there was no point in holding a grudge.

However, what Charles had uncovered was deeply troubling to her.

Seeing her pain, Isaac couldn’t hide his distress.

Brittany took his hand, “Zakky, I’ve truly moved past what happened five years ago. So, there’s no need

for guilt.”

Isaac leaned in, unfastened her seat belt, and lifted her into his lap. His iron grip encircled her waist,

pulling her tightly against him.

“I wronged you five years ago. You can punish me any way you want, just don’t be unhappy, and

please, never leave me.”
