Chapter 855

After showing Joyce out, Brittany returned to her office.

Kari had witnessed everything and couldn’t help but give a thumbs up. “Brittany, you’re a miracle

worker, getting her to sign the contract just like that.”

“Just a spoiled brat.”

After Brittany and Kari concluded their business discussion, Kari asked, “How’s Grace feeling? I picked

up some things; how about we swing by the hospital later to check on her? Consider it a gesture from

our studio.”

“Sounds good.”

Once Kari left, Brittany dove back into her work.

Her cell phone pinged.

Brittany grabbed it and saw an anonymous text.

She opened it, revealing a high-definition photo.

It was Joyce with some unknown man.

Brittany sensed something was amiss and tried to call back, only to discover that the number had been

disconnected.

She paused, then sent the photo to Charles: [Look into this guy.]

Charles responded quickly.

[His name’s Levi, a patient with depression.]

Levi?

Brittany felt like she had heard that name somewhere before.

[He just died in a car accident.]

A car accident?

Brittany suddenly remembered the nurses’ gossip, her eyes deepening.

[Got it.]

After putting away her phone and dealing with some work matters, she headed to the hospital with Kari.

At the hospital, Grace lit up at the sight of Kari,

While they chatted, Brittany slipped downstairs to the morgue.

The entire floor was permeated with a chilling aura. Brittany wasn’t afraid of ghosts, but she felt a

certain trepidation.

Brittany found the security office without trouble, where a middle-aged man in uniform was dozing off.

She peered inside.

“Who are ya?” The guard jolted awake, eyeing Brittany with suspicion.

“Hello, I need a favor.” Brittany entered the security room with a warm smile, casually pulling out a wad

of cash.

The guard’s eyes bulged at the sight of the money, but wary of the cameras, he cleared his throat

awkwardly. “This is against the rules.”

Brittany produced a little gold bar, and the guard’s frown turned into a grin. “What do you want to

know?”

“I heard that a body went missing here a few days ago?”

“Yeah,” the guard said, biting into the gold bar and confirming it was real. His attitude turned even more

obliging. “Strange thing it was, just disappeared. Then it turned up again near the operating room.”

“Did his family come by?”

“They did, and took the body away,” the guard said reflectively. “I thought the hospital would have to

deal with it, seeing as they hadn’t come for a while. The family didn’t shed a tear, just handled the

paperwork and took him straight to the crematorium.”

The guard noticed that the family didn’t seem sad at all. Right before him, they were calculating the

compensation money they’d receive to buy their youngest son a house.

“Isn’t there surveillance in the morgue?”

Brittany wanted to see the footage.

“Oddly enough, the cameras were out that day.” The guard looked Brittany up and down. “Miss, this is

some weird business, best not to dig into it.”

Brittany left the morgue.

The guard, delighted with the money, was already planning on how much good liquor he could buy with

it!

Back in the ward, Kari was still chatting with Grace.

Nathan stood outside, normally as stoic as a robot, but in the presence of Kari, he seemed a bit eager,

though he refrained from approaching.

A flicker of pity crossed Brittany’s eyes.

“Nathan.”

“Ms. Dustin.” Nathan snapped back to reality.
