Chapter 255

Allison pushed the door open and spotted a man sitting inside.

He was dressed casually, probably in his mid–thirties, wearing a Melody of Delight cap. He was wearing glasses and sporting a small tuft of facial hair. Seeing Allison, Gavin did a slight double–take. She bore an uncanny resemblance to Penelope, he thought, but her beauty wasn’t just skin–deep.

The most striking thing about this waitress was her poise. She was in a red and black waitress uniform, a red–and–white checked bow tie at her collar. Despite her simple get–up, it couldn’t mask her elegant aura.

With her subtle makeup and sharp features, Gavin found himself admiring her. “Sarah, it’s such a waste that someone this talented is waiting tables here.” Sarah lit a cigarette, eyes on Allison. “Allison, this is Gavin, the director of ‘Melody of Delight. He’s a friend of mine. He’s shooting a film here and needs you as a stand–in. You can name your price.”

“Name my price?” Allison raised an eyebrow at Gavin. “Why me? There are plenty of waitresses here. You could just pick one.”

Gavin rubbed his temples. Penelope insisted on having this waitress named Allison as her stand–in. The truth is, I rented this place, and the shooting for today has to be completed. Otherwise, the accumulated costs of the crew and the loss of renting for another day would cost me a small fortune. Penelope is our lead actress with the backing of Epic Entertainment. We can’t afford to offend her, and she specifically requested you.”

Is Penelope going to refuse to shoot if Allison doesn’t do it?” Sarah asked, blowing out a puff of smoke.

Gavin sighed and nodded.

“Penelope… I feel like I’ve heard that name somewhere.” Sarah seemed to be recalling something.

Allison smirked. “I’m the one Ms. Flanagan brought in.”

Sarah nodded. She suddenly remembered a friend who recommended Allison for a job. She always knew there was something different about Allison, that she was not the type to be content with a waitress job. Her friend had told her that it was the daughter of the Flanagan family who found her, needing to find a job for a disobedient servant.

So that was who Allison was

Despite Allison’s detached expression, Sarah could tell there was some bad blood between her and Penelope.

“If Allison doesn’t do it, Penelope really won’t shoot. The scene is important and we can’t cut it. That woman is really hard to deal with!” Gavin complained.

He turned to Allison. “I don’t know why Penelope specifically requested you. Given the circumstances today, I’m at my wit’s end. We can’t afford to offend the lady from Epic Entertainment. Because of her, we’ve had to make a lot of changes to the script. We can’t afford to upset our lead actress, Leila, either. Allison, could you do me this favor? If there’s anything you need in the future, I’ll be there to help.”

Allison didn’t respond.

Sarah said, “Allison, Gavin is a winner of this year’s prestigious director’s award, and this film has a high budget. Since Gavin’s asking you like this, just

agree

Originally, she wanted to respect Allison’s decision and let her handle it. But having Gavin owe her a favor, that was a lot more interesting.

Allison clenched her fist. She wondered what Penelope was up to. Was she trying to humiliate her by making her a stand–in?

She looked at Gavin and said, “Fine, I’ll listen to Sarah.”

Gavin, relieved, slapped his thigh and exclaimed, “Great!”

Sarah smirked. “I was the one who brokered this deal.”

Gavin thanked her profusely. “Sarah, I owe you dinner.”

“It’s a deal. And don’t skimp on Allison’s pay. After all, she’s saving you a lot of money. Renting my club and other labor costs aren’t small expenses.”

“Sarah, you have my word”
