Her lips curled up in the slightest smile, “She’s the one who got me this gig.”

Sarah let out a sigh and said, Tve already said no to her, but that doesn’t mean she won’t find another way to trip you up. Be careful. And honestly, this job isn’t all that I actually think you’d make a better actress.”

The Red Jack Club was like a mini society, and Allison had learned a lot here. She grinned, “I think it’s pretty cool here.”

And Sarah had been nothing but kind to her.

“Leah is Penelope’s mom. I’ve never liked them, and they’ve never liked me. They’re always looking for a way to stick it to me. I can’t believe they’re even trying to snatch this job from me.” Allison’s gaze turned icy, “They’re not leaving me any room to breathe.”

Sarah recalled how Penelope had wanted Allison to be her stand-in, probably just to humiliate her. She furrowed her brow, “Watch out for Serena. If Leah got shut down by me, she definitely won’t take it lying down. She might go to Serena, who’s the manager here. She can fire an employee just like that.”

“If she wants to fire me, she’d need a good reason! I haven’t done anything wrong. On what grounds can she fire me?” Allison said,

Sarah shook her head. “I’ve known Serena for five years. She plays dirty. To become a manager, she had an affair with the previous manager and the assistant manager Allison, you’re too naive. She just needs an excuse to fire you. If you can’t prove your innocence, I can’t protect you.”

1 get it.” Allison nodded, “I’ll be careful.”

“Allison, you’re constantly under pressure here and being manipulated. This is just a waitress job, the pay is just the result of your hard work and tips. Maybe the world outside would be better for you.” Sarah said.

Allison shook her head, “Sarah, you don’t understand. They’re holding my diploma hostage. I can’t graduate.”

“Which school are you in? I know quite a few people; I could help you out.” Sarah offered.

Allison was grateful to Sarah, but her situation was complicated, so she declined Sarah’s help.

Sarah asked, “How long do you plan to work here? Seriously, Penelope is constantly humiliating you, making you her stand-in. Don’t you want to turn the tables on her one day? I heard from Gavin that you’re a good actress. With your personality and looks, if you’re serious about acting, even though it’s tough, you could totally make a name for yourself.”

Sarah had been at the Red Jack Club for over a decade. Allison was the most stunning girl she’d ever seen, in terms of both looks and personality. Penelope and Allison looked somewhat alike, but their personalities were worlds apart. Penelope seemed pretty, but on closer inspection, she came off as a bit tacky.

Allison was indeed tempted. She had thought about it. “Sarah, I understand what you’re saying. I think about it.”

At 11 PM that night, as Allison was about to head home, she saw Payton at the entrance of the Red Jack Club.

Payton was sitting on the steps in front of the club, watching the constant flow of traffic.

“Payton, you haven’t gone home yet? I heard from Vera that you were feeling unwell Allison asked.

Allison walked over, noticing Payton’s red eyes. It was obvious she’d been crying. She bent down and asked, “Payton, what’s wrong?”

“I saw him.” Payton’s lips moved, “It was really him.”

Allison had known Payton for four months and was familiar with her story Payton’s family had taken in a boy when she was little. Payton came from scholarly family, but the boy had gotten into trouble and was expelled from school, later getting involved in a murder case. Even though he was eventually cleared, Payton’s parents, who came from a respectable family, were obviously unhappy about it. So the boy left, and promised to return one day to marry Payton.

However, there was no news from him since then.
