Chapter 1030

“Thalassa, come on, talk to me.” Evelyn chided, nudging Thalassa’s arm. “You’ve been in your own world forever now.”

Jolted back to reality, Thalassa tried to suppress the pain that had nestled in her heart. It was spreading through her, coursing along her veins and lodging deep in her bones. Her fingertips felt like she’d held onto ice for too long swollen and throbbing with a burning sensation.

She gently placed the tea kettle back on the table. “What else can I say?”

“What are you planning to do, really?” Evelyn sighed. “Just keep hanging on with Lysander? Become just another one of his conquests? Youth is not something a woman. can afford to waste.”

Thalassa’s gaze fell, hiding the bitterness and loss that filled her eyes.

“We should just take the kids and run,” Evelyn suggested. “Better than losing everything in a bad bargain.”

“Mom, have some water. I’ll go check if the kids are done with their baths.” Thalassa said and stepped out of the room with a weight on her heart heavier than Evelyn could understand.

She knew she couldn’t keep going like this. She wanted to leave too, but she was waiting for the right moment.

“Mommy, I’m done washing up!”

“Me too!”

The small figures of Atticus and Dorian were wrapped in fluffy towels. They emerged from the bathroom with their hair damp and faces moisturized. They looked even more cherubic than ever.

Seeing the innocent joy on their faces lifted some of the heaviness from Thalassa’s heart. She managed a smile. “Alright, let’s get you dressed.”

The servants accompanied them into their room.

Then, Elowen and Sophia appeared. Their wet hair clung to their chubby cheeks, looking utterly adorable.

“Mommy, could you please dress me?” Elowen said, rubbing her face against Thalassa’s leg, purring for affection like a kitten.

Sophia approached too. She lifted her little face, and her eyes were full of the same wish.

“Okay, let’s get to your room. Mommy will help you get dressed.” Thalassa said softly. She took Elowen and Sophia by their small hands and led them away.

Once entering their room, the two little ones scrambled onto the bed and tossed their towels aside.

Elowen’s round, plump little body was pink from the bath. She was cute with her delicate doll-like face.

Sophia was slimmer but just as tender and lovable in her pink skin.

Thalassa fetched clothes from the wardrobe, and the two darlings lined up to be dressed.

“Mommy, why isn’t Daddy home yet? Is he not coming to sleep tonight?” Elowen asked while being dressed.

Thalassa, who had just begun to feel a semblance of normalcy, felt a pang in her heart again.

She paused for a moment. Then, she continued dressing Elowen in a tiny T-shirt and helping her into pants.

Elowen steadied herself against her mother, waiting for an answer with wide, expectant eyes.

“Your daddy had a bit too much to drink tonight. He’s sleeping it off at a hotel.” Thalassa answered.

“So Daddy’s really not coming home tonight?” Sophia asked, puzzled.

Thalassa lowered her lashes and shook her head softly. “I don’t know, sweetie.”

Moving to Sophia, she began dressing her in the matching pajamas, adorned with a pink bunny on the chest, just a size smaller than Elowen’s.

Elowen needed a larger size since she was a bit plumper.
