Chapter 1033

“Fitch, can we please go to Grandma’s? I really want go there.” Dorian pleaded, his big eyes brimming with a sheen of moisture that could melt the stoniest of hearts.

“I want to go too, Fitch. Please let us.” Elowen chimed in, her pout as effective as a siren’s call.

Fitch felt his resolve dissolving under the weight of their adorable entreaties. How could he bear to deny them?

The problem was, he simply didn’t have the authority to let the children leave the sprawling confines of Royal Estates.

Seeing Fitch’s troubled expression, Thalassa reassured him, “Don’t worry, I just called Lysander, and he agreed.”

“You called him?” Fitch asked with uncertainty.

“Of course, I did. Look at the call log if you don’t believe me.” Thalassa whipped out her phone, showing the most recent call to Lysander just five minutes prior.

She only let Fitch glance at it before putting her phone away, then reassured him, “You see, it was just five minutes ago. Lysander did agree to let the kids to their grandma’s. Remember he agreed before? What’s there to worry about, Fitch?”

Fitch offered an apologetic smile and wiped the sweat from his brow, “It’s not that, Ms. Everhart. As their mother, you obviously adore the children. It’s just that we, the staff, must follow Lysander’s orders to the letter. If anything goes wrong, it’s on us. But since you’ve spoken to Lysander, then it’s settled.”

Despite only having a brief look, Fitch had seen the timestamp confirming Thalassa’s claim.

Continuing to prevent Thalassa and the children from leaving would seem like he was opposing her, something he had no intention or courage to do.

“Alright then, Fitch. May I have the keys to the black Lamborghini?” she asked.

“Let me drive you in the minivan. I’m worried about your safety.” Fitch insisted, still uneasy. “It’s late, Fitch, and you’ve had a long day. You should rest. I’d feel guilty making you run around for us.” Thalassa argued, keen on driving herself to avoid being monitored by Fitch, who might as well be Lysander’s eyes on them.

“No, it’s okay. I’m not tired.” Fitch said and headed out to fetch the minivan,

He had barely taken two steps when he felt a tug at his sleeve. Turning around, he saw no one until he looked down to find little Dorian.

“I don’t want Fitch to drive. I want Mommy to drive. We’re going to stop by the mall and grab some KFC before heading to Grandma’s. Fitch won’t let us have KFC.” the little guy stated, a mix of grievance and determination in his voice.

Fitch chuckled yet felt a tug at his heartstrings. He looked from Dorian to Thalassa, conceding, “Alright, Ms. Everhart. Just take it slow on the road.”

“I will. The kids are lucky to have a grandfather figure like you watching over them.” Thalassa said, not missing the chance to compliment Fitch on his concern for the children.

Fitch was flustered by the praise and muttered modestly, “Oh, it’s nothing. Just doing my part. I’ll get the keys.”

Fitch headed to his room, where the keys to all the vehicles of Royal Estates were kept under his vigilant care.

Thalassa watched him go, feeling her tense nerves relax slightly, and only then did she notice her palms were clammy with sweat.

Her composure during the exchange with Fitch had been a facade; inside, her heart was racing.

Fitch returned and handed over the keys. He was still anxious and said, “Ms. Everhart, call me if you need anything. I can be there in no time.”

“Thank you, Fitch. I appreciate it.” Thalassa said, taking the keys and leading Elowen by the hand as they made their way out, quickening their pace with each step toward freedom.
