Chapter 1060

Lysander’s gaze grew icy as he stared down at Thalassa. “So, you knew you were pregnant and still chose to run off with Callum?”

The chill in his presence filled the hospital room, making the air seem thick and hard to breathe.

Thalassa could feel the icy shift in his aura, his evasive answers, and the sharpness of his hawk-like stare. All were signs of danger.

It was supposed to be Thalassa holding him accountable for his wrongdoings, but with a twist of his words, she found herself the target of accusation.

She was suddenly made to be the unforgivable one.

Facing his inscrutable eyes, she felt her pupils constrict and her eyelashes flutter. Her delicate brows furrowed.

She managed to hide the hurt and difficulties within her heart, and she said, “I only just found out about the pregnancy myself.”

A flicker of moisture glinted in Lysander’s eyes. “If you had known, would you have stayed instead of going with Callum?”

He couldn’t let the subject go.

Thalassa met his gaze, feeling the pressure of his grip tighten on her hand. It was so intense that her fingers squeezed together, and the back of her hand arched, causing her to panic.

She feared that the needle might break her vein and that her hand would swell from the medicine seeping into her flesh.

“Lysander, you’re hurting me.” she said with a pained expression, her breathing tense.

Regaining his senses, Lysander realized he was squeezing her hand – the one connected to the IV drip – and quickly let go.

He looked away, evidently embarrassed. “I didn’t mean to grip so hard.”

Thalassa was taken aback. Was he actually explaining himself to her?

Lysander was known for his domineering ways. His pride always prevented him from ever explaining his actions to anyone.

Thalassa was caught off guard by his sudden change, unsure of how to respond.

“It’s fine, the IV is still intact,” Thalassa replied, also averting her gaze, breaking eye contact with Lysander.

An awkward silence filled the space between them.

With Lysander present, the air always felt heavy. His presence was always impossible to ignore.

After a few seconds of discomfort, Thalassa felt compelled to break the silence.

“I…”

“You…”

Just then, Lysander also began to speak.

They both spoke at once. Thalassa quickly held back and insisted cautiously, “You first.” Without any pleasantries, Lysander pressed on, “You haven’t answered my last question.” Thalassa’s clear eyes blinked back at him, slightly bewildered. She was momentarily lost as to which question he meant. Then it hit her before she cried out in pain, Lysander had asked if she would have stayed if she knew about the pregnancy.

It was a question she had never considered herself.

But now Lysander was forcing her to think about it, to find an answer that wouldn’t provoke his anger.

If she had known about the pregnancy earlier, she probably would have still chosen to leave with Callum.

She knew all too well that staying with Lysander meant no future and no happy ending. More than that, she couldn’t bear his cruelty.

Staying by his side would only mean a future of torment and pain.

If she had known earlier about the child, she would have been even more determined to find a way to leave, a way that Lysander could never track, to disappear completely.

She would find a place where no one knew her give birth to the child, and raise them, along with her other four babies.

Even without love, she would find happiness.

Not like now, without any real status, let alone love. Staying by Lysander’s side meant enduring injustice without a chance to vent her grievances.
