Chapter 1064

The question from Amelia sent a sudden chill through Lysander; his deep-set eyes darkened, and an icy edge cloaked his aura.

Upon hearing Amelia mention she found a pack of birth control pills at the villa Leopold left behind, Thalassa’s nerves tightened, and her heart hitched to her throat.

Damn it, the pills were found!

After she had sent Lysander away earlier, she forgot about the half-empty pack of pills beneath the sofa cushion, which she failed to put away.

And now, Amelia had found them.

Those pills were for her mother, Evelyn, who had been raped by Bruce – a torment that left her shattered. If Evelyn were to get pregnant with Bruce’s child, it would only add to her despair.

So, without hesitation, Thalassa bought the pills for Evelyn to prevent a future burden.

But she couldn’t have foreseen that Lysander would storm in that very night, furious upon discovering her lies. She hadn’t been with her mother’s house-hunting; she had gone to meet Callum in secret.

She met with Callum to learn about Leopold’s affairs, and it was that night Callum revealed to her the house she’d sold was now under Leopold’s care. That was because he wanted to provide her with a home in Starhaven.

Callum handed her the mansion’s contract and keys.

Little did she know, her mother would endure such an ordeal that night…

The tension in the hospital room was palpable. The air grew thin, making breathing seem laborious.

Thalassa’s heart was fraught with unease. She dared not look at Amelia, and even less so at Lysander. She had once deceived him, claiming the birth control was just a precaution against his unexpected desires.

She had even shown him a buy-one-get-one-free pack of untampered pills to assuage his suspicions.

Now, the other pack – the one that had been used was exposed, and she had no explanation, for she couldn’t reveal Evelyn’s plight.

Amelia, seeing Lysander’s stern countenance and the suddenly chilling air about him, pushed eagerly, “Lysander, answer me. Was it you who brought a woman into that villa and used those pills, or was it Leopold?”

Amelia asked again, her expression fraught with tension as she looked at Lysander, craving the answer she desired.

How she hoped it was Leopold who had brought a woman there, had intercourse, and used the pills afterward.

That way, at least Leopold had been with another woman, and that woman might even be carrying Leopold’s child.

There might still be a chance for her to hold a grandchild, for a piece of Leopold to remain in this world.

As Amelia finished her query, Thalassa felt her heart pounding in nervous anticipation. She turned her gaze instinctively towards Lysander.

Her breaths were shallow and slow, her heart rhythm erratic. She braced for the turmoil and dread of being torn apart.

In the midst of her intense anxiety, Lysander’s cold voice broke the silence. He looked at Amelia and said, “I stayed there for a few days before I returned you the house. Who do you think used the birth control pill there?”

The hope in Amelia’s eyes crumbled, plummeting into an endless abyss. Her tense shoulders sagged.

Tears welled up and flowed freely as she cried, “My poor son, what your fixation was for? Look at other men of rich families – all have a bevy of women and bastards aplenty! Yet you, you’ve been ensnared by one woman, for all these years still alone, blind to any other woman…”

Amelia wept, pouring out her heart’s grief and sorrow.

The loss of her son had already taken half her life, and now, the last glimmer of hope for Leopold to leave behind an heir was shattered.

Her heart ached as though it was being sliced apart.

When Thalassa heard Lysander’s answer, relief washed over her amid the shock.
