Chapter 1072

David paused from packing his desk. He leaned his body against it with hands firmly. planted on the surface. He was fully engaged in a lighthearted conversation with Thalassa on the phone.

“Don’t you want to ask why I’m heading to Afriland?”

“Business trip, what else?” Thalassa’s tone was casual. “It’s not like you’re going because of me, right?”

“You hit the nail on the head.” David said, a smile playing on his lips despite his impending relocation to Afriland.

“How am I to blame? I’m not even part of your company, and I haven’t stirred up any trouble. How on earth did I get you banished to Afriland?” There was an innocence in Thalassa’s voice.

“You didn’t stir up trouble? The whole Sinclair group was on pins and needles all afternoon. Mr. Sinclair was so livid; he could scare a ghost. Who else but you could get Mr. Sinclair so riled up without getting your hands dirty and still manage to drag others down with you?”

“Are you saying you took the fall for me?” Thalassa asked, then chuckled. “You’re giving me too much credit. You have no idea how my mandible was hanging by a thread. You’re just going to Afriland, while my mandible is practically in pieces here.”

“Well, it’s not broken, is it?” David retorted.

Thalassa went speechless.

Well, thanks a bunch, David. You must really be rooting for my chin to snap. Hanging around Lysander has really rubbed off on you. No compassion whatsoever. You’ve become a real piece of work. She

thought.

“Safe travels to Afriland, David. I hope you have the time of your life. Go there pale and come back tanned, and maybe bring back a beautiful lady from there to call your bride.” Thalassa quipped before abruptly ending the call.

Now, it was David who went speechless.

Life was rough. Being shipped off to the harsh environment of Afriland by Mr. Sinclair was bad enough, but then he was teased by Thalassa.

Were these two conspiring against him?

In the meantime, chaos erupted at the Bruce’s family mansion.

Bruce had tolerated Lucy for years just because she controlled the purse strings and she had a golden touch with stocks – money in her hands could double.

That was why he had bitten his tongue and endured Lucy’s ways for years.

But what was she telling him now?

The stock market was in turmoil, and the stocks she had poured their fortune into had plummeted within two hours, wiping out all their wealth!

“Divorce! I want a divorce! I can’t wait another second!” Bruce roared, veins bulging on his forehead as he slammed his dinner plate down.

The plate shattered with a crash on the granite table, shards flying everywhere and narrowly missing Lucy as she dodged them just in time.

Regaining her composure and seeing Bruce’s chest heaving with fury, Lucy quickly tried to soothe him, her tone gentle and pleading, “Bruce, please don’t be mad. The money’s gone, but at least we’re still together as a family. We can always make more money.”

“Don’t touch me!” Bruce shoved Lucy away and stood up abruptly.

Glaring at her with fierce eyes and spitting with anger, he said, “Let’s get one thing straight, Lucy! I care about the money, not about being ‘a family’ with you! If it wasn’t for the money, I would’ve left you ages ago! But you, you had to gamble all our savings on the stock market, and now it’s all gone! We’re broke, and I don’t have to feign a family with you anymore! We’re going for the legal affairs right now, and we’re getting a divorce!”

Bruce pointed an accusing finger at Lucy, baring his teeth with rage.

For years, he had willingly handed over his earnings to Lucy, trusting in her knack for the stock market, believing that she could double the money in no time.
