Chapter 1174

Angelina tasked Eloise with tidying up the living room while she made her way to her son Alaric’s

bedroom, intent on handling the aftermath herself. Pushing open the door, she was hit by a wave of

intimacy that seemed to linger in the air.

The room felt unusually warm and the humid air clung to her face, carrying a hint of something

unspoken.

The thought of her son spending the night with a woman like that stirred a fury within her, and she

cursed Hertha under her breath countless times.

Suppressing her annoyance, Angelina moved to the bed to change the sheets, but to her surprise, the

comforter was still neatly folded just as it had been the day before. Only the slightest wrinkle in the

sheets suggested someone had sat there, but there was no sign that anyone had actually slept in the

bed.

Impossible, she thought. Could it have been Hertha who tidied up in the morning? But Alaric was the

last to rise, and Hertha wouldn’t have had the chance to make the bed.

Knowing her son well, Angelina was certain that Alaric was the type to toss his blankets aside upon

waking and never bothered to fold them. It seemed even less likely that he would have made the bed

himself.

As Angelina pondered the situation, her gaze drifted to the floor, where a flash of red caught the corner

of her eye. She was about to look away when the color seized her attention, and she focused sharply

on it.

What she saw made her heart skip a beat. There, on the floor, was a stain of blood.

Had Alaric and Hertha actually slept on the floor?

Hertha, with her reputation as a player, was still a virgin?

Last night, Alaric had taken Hertha’s first time.

Angelina was originally filled with contempt and disdain in her heart for promiscuous women like

Hertha.

Now that Angelina saw the smear of red on the ground, she was shocked and overwhelmed with

disbelief instead.

The sight of the red stain on the floor complicated her feelings towards Hertha. If she was as loose as

rumored, how could she be a virgin?

But if she was a decent girl, why would she say those things to Angelina, take two million. dollars, and

leave without a second glance or any intention of clinging to Alaric?

Modern girls were truly a puzzle.

With a sigh, Angelina rolled up the cashmere rug, resolving to clean it herself.

Alaric drove away from the Falconer residence, scanning the streets for any sign of Hertha. He dialed

her number, and the phone rang for an eternity, but no one answered.

A frown creased his brow, and his mood soured. Hertha had left without a word that morning. Was she

really angry with him?

But why? Surely, she owed him an explanation.

When Alaric tried calling her again, he was met with an immediate rejection. Staring at his phone

screen, he exhaled deeply and tossed the device onto the passenger seat.

Gripping the steering wheel tightly, he pressed on the accelerator, speeding up the car.

Meanwhile, Hertha sat in the back of a taxi, the ringing of her phone breaking through the silence. She

saw Alaric’s name flashing on the screen and felt a tug at her heart, followed by a faint ache.

“Miss, did you get your heart broken?” The driver in the front seat chimed in.

The driver’s words from the front seat snapped her back to reality. She wiped away her tears with a

defiant swipe of her hand and said in a hardened tone, “Heartbreak? What’s that? Love is a joke.

Money is what matters.”

The driver probed further, “Then why the tears?”

“I’m crying because I don’t have enough money. I’ve got to work hard and earn my own,” Hertha said

stubbornly, drying her tears and putting on a face of cold determination.
