Chapter 1229

After that night, Hertha began to distance herself from him, even taking his mother’s money before

leaving! Could it really be because she found him lacking?

Wasn’t she satisfied that night?

No, she’s a woman who’s just tasted the forbidden fruit. How could she know enough to be dissatisfied

with him?

After her declaration, Hertha prepared to continue her drinking spree by picking up her glass.

Alaric watched her with blurry, drunken eyes. He reached out, snatched the glass from her

hand and slammed it down onto the table with a thud.

Hertha was like a cat with its tail stepped on. She instantly bristled, glaring at Alaric. “What the hell are

you doing? You think you’re too good for us, don’t you?” she snapped.

Her emphasis on “us” was heavy, her eyes burning with anger and mockery to cover the sadness in

them.

Considering her intoxicated state, Alaric tried not to take her harsh words to heart.

He took a deep breath, trying to keep his emotions in check, and asked, “You keep accusing me of

tattling-what’s that about? And who exactly are ‘us’?”

He had this nagging feeling that Hertha was being particularly prickly towards him tonight, as if she had

an axe to grind.

But there had to be a reason for her sharp change, didn’t there?

Hertha let out a sarcastic laugh. “Have the guts to ask, do you? I simply wanted Thalassa to meet

someone, and you go calling Lysander telling him she’s seeing another guy! Causing trouble between

Thalassa and Lysander, just to make me miserable, to give me heartache? What, it’s fine for you to

court Georgia Reed, but heaven forbid I look for my own love?” Hertha accused.

Yes, it was she who had called Alaric here. She’d summoned him to settle the score!

She really hadn’t expected him to be such a snitch!

Hearing Hertha’s words, the anger Alaric had been suppressing was on the verge of breaking free.

He gritted his teeth, exhaled deeply and tried desperately to keep his cool. “Yes, your quest for love is

so noble, beyond reproach!” he said, his words dripping with sarcasm.

“So you’re admitting you tattled?” Hertha’s tipsy gaze fixed on him, searching for a definitive answer.

Alaric glanced at her. “Even if I had a problem with you, I wouldn’t stoop to upsetting Lysander and

Thalassa’s relationship.”

But he hadn’t expected to be thought of like this!

In her eyes, he was the sort of man who would sabotage Lysander and Thalassa’s relationship just to

make Hertha feel guilty!

Even to be seen as a backstabber, a snitch, someone who enjoyed making others look bad!

Being misunderstood like this, Alaric felt deeply hurt.

“If it wasn’t you who told Lysander, then how did he find out about Thalassa seeing another man?”

Hertha blurted out without thinking.

“You seem to misunderstand Lysander’s reach. It’s not surprising he knows any secret,” Alaric retorted.

“Really not you?” Hertha questioned, puzzled.

“Hertha! Don’t push me to my limit,” Alaric finally lost his grip on his temper and said angrily.

He did not like being misjudged.

“I’m just double-checking.” Hertha rolled her eyes at him.

The reason she had called Alaric to confirm personally was partly to vent her anger, and/ partly

because deep down she didn’t believe Alaric would snitch. She wanted further confirmation to make it

clear to herself that Alaric truly wasn’t that kind of person.
