Chapter 1244

Kimberly called out, hurrying towards the kitchen.

Her actions were so blatant that even Hertha, who wasn’t one to catch on quickly, understood what her

mother was implying. She actually thought that Hertha had spent the last night with Spencer, and she

was also thrilled about it!

Her daughter hadn’t come home all night and was back with a man the next morning, and she wasn’t

the slightest bit worried-instead, she was over the moon!

Was she that afraid of Hertha becoming an old maid?

Annoyed, Hertha called out, “Mom, stop fussing, I’m not hungry.”

Kimberly turned around, chiding her gently, “Oh, honey, even if you’re not up for breakfast, Spencer

must be starving. I’m making it for him, not you.”

“He’s got work today,” Hertha said, her face falling.

“Is that so?” Kimberly asked, a hint of disappointment in her voice as she turned to Spencer, “Do you

have to rush off to work?”

“I took a half-day off today,” Spencer replied with a smile.

“Oh, that’s great, that’s just great! You two sit down for a bit, breakfast is pretty much ready. I’ll just

warm it up and throw in a few extra goodies,” Kimberly said, her disappointment vanishing as she

cheerfully headed back to the kitchen.

Hertha looked at Spencer, her emotions on her sleeve, and he caught her accusing gaze. He paused

for a moment, his eyes darting away, but not awkwardly. He sat down beside her and explained, “I

haven’t eaten anything this morning; I’m indeed kind of hungry.”

It seemed Hertha was embarrassed-that must be why she was so eager for him to leave, not wanting

him to stay any longer.

But Spencer had other plans.

“Then stay and eat. I’m going to change,” said Hertha, her tone neutral.

She stood up and walked towards her room when her father, Ashton Kensington, emerged from

another room. Upon seeing her, he asked sternly, “Where the hell were you last night?”

“…” Hertha tried to explain, but Spencer stood up and called out, “Mr. Kensington.”

Ashton turned around and saw Spencer, his stern expression instantly shifted to a warm smile. “Oh

Spencer, my boy, you’re here! Did you bring Hertha home?”

“Yes,” Spencer replied.

Ashton paused, then his smile widened even more. “Wonderful! Spencer, take a seat. Kimberly is

whipping up something in the kitchen, isn’t she? Stay for breakfast. And if you get bored waiting, why

not join me for a game of chess?”

Ashton, brimming with enthusiasm, gestured for Spencer to sit down. He pulled out a chess board from

the drawer of the coffee table, ready to dive into a game with Spencer.

Spencer glanced at Hertha, who still stood there with a hurt look on her face. He nodded at her with a

reassuring smile, signaling that she had nothing to worry about.

Receiving his kind gaze, Hertha’swallowed down her bitterness and discomfort and walked into her

room, closing the door behind her.

Her parents were so fond of Spencer, treating him even better than they treated her!

Had they already pegged him as their son-in-law?

Hertha ran her fingers through her hair in frustration. Why on earth did she have to outdrink that jerk

Alaric last night? If she hadn’t gotten so drunk, none of this would be happening.
