Chapter 696

Each industry had its own rules, and discretion was the most basic rule of professional ethics.

At first, she found the buyer somewhat peculiar. The gentleman had made the payment so swiftly and had even delegated the paperwork to someone else. A billion-dollar mansion was no small deal, and the fact that he had entrusted such an important task to somebody else was bizarre. Wasn’t he afraid of any mishaps?

But then again, the world was a vast place with all kinds of people.

Besides, for the affluent, time was more precious than money. A billion dollars was a mere trifle to them. It was barely worth a second thought.

Just like Lysander, for whom a billion was nothing more than pocket change.

Once she had come to this realization, Thalassa stopped dwelling on it. She completed the paperwork and walked out of the real estate office. She had initially planned to visit her mother, Evelyn. But her chauffeur approached her, looking anxious. “Ms Everhart, it’s getting late. We should head back.”

She asked the chauffeur to take her from Royal Estates to the property registry office.

Otherwise, given her limp and her need for crutches, there was no way she could have caught a cab by herself.

“Take me to Vibrant Oasis Residences, then you can head back.” She instructed the chauffeur.

“But… but… Mr. Sinclair will be home soon. If he doesn’t see you there when he gets back, I’ll be the one to bear the brunt of his displeasure.” The chauffeur said, looking torn.

It was a tough situation. On the one hand, he hadn’t been granted permission by Lysander to take Thalassa out. On the other hand, he couldn’t resist her pleading request.

The chauffeur thought that, as long as they got back before Lysander did, there wouldn’t be any trouble.

And now Ms Everhart didn’t want to return.

After noticing the chauffeur’s worried expression, Thalassa realized that another trip elsewhere would make things difficult for him. She was the one who asked him to help her with this task in the first place, so she couldn’t let him be troubled.

“Return to Royal Estates,” she said. “Let’s go.”

She carefully got into the car, and the chauffeur drove off, deliberately increasing the speed to get home before Lysander.

Fortunately, when they arrived at Royal Estates, Lysander’s car was nowhere to be seen. He hadn’t returned yet.

In the meantime, at the Sinclair Group.

Lysander was in his office.

David stood in front of his desk, giving his report.

“Yesterday morning, Ms Everhart and Bruce went to the real estate office and registered the billion- dollar villa in Ms Everhart’s name. After that, they went to Phoenix Mountain. In a short while, Bruce

transferred thirteen million to Ms Everhart’s account.”

Lysander looked up from the contract he was reading and gazed at David. “Did you let Bruce go on the mountainside yesterday?”

Thalassa said she had left Bruce hanging in the middle of a zip-lining.

David shook his head. “No, when we got there, there was nobody. Faye was too fast, and the mountain was steep, not to mention the thunderstorm that was hindering our movement. We couldn’t catch up to her.”

David spoke with a hint of guilt in his voice.

Lysander furrowed his brows slightly and waved his hand.

David nodded and exited the office.

Just as he returned to his desk, Thalassa called.

David picked up. “Ms Everhart, are you looking for Mr. Sinclair?”

“No, no, no. I need to speak with you.” Thalassa’s voice sounded light and cheery.

“What do you need?” David asked, feeling intrigued.

Thalassa was Lysander’s woman, and she used to be his secretary. It was normal for her to seek David’s help since he was her superior.

Now, however, she was no longer an employee of the Sinclair Group.

There was no connection between them anymore. What could she possibly need from him?
