Chapter 788

“Police station, Lysander replied, striding in with his long legs.

His imposing aura approached, and an icy chill seemed to strike at Thalassa’s heart. Instinctively, she stepped back, making room for

him.

But Lysander didn’t take the path she’d cleared, he advanced on her instead. The intense rush of cold air hit Thalassa’s cheek as he drew nearer. Nervously, she kept stepping back, tripping on her own foot, almost falling over.

A lean, muscular arm wrapped around her waist, gently pulling her back. Thalassa’s body was brought back against Lysander’s sturdy, powerful chest.

She looked up at him, panic-stricken. Meeting his profound gaze, she gasped, “What…what’s the matter?”

“What are you doing, locking yourself up in your room, hmm?” His deep-set eyes scrutinized her, as if trying to penetrate her soul.

“Nothing, I was just about to rest,” Thalassa turned her face away, avoiding his gaze.

Lysander glanced at the cell phone she was holding, took it from her, and unlocked it.

Watching his movements, Thalassa furrowed her brows, biting her lip slightly. Her heart tightened, but she didn’t resist, letting him inspect her phone.

She’d deleted Leopold’s call history and even his phone number the moment she got it, to prevent Lysander from finding out.

Lysander looked over her phone but found nothing unusual. He continued to stare at her, “Not going to ask me what I was doing at the police station, huh?”

Snapping back to reality, Thalassa’s flustered eyes met his. His gaze was too deep, enigmatic, and inscrutable.

She didn’t contradict him, and asked, “Were you checking on the progress of the mall explosion case?”

“You guessed right,” Lysander’s deep voice echoed, “Two workers died on the spot, and three were injured.”

Thalassa frowned, her heart heavy. This was no news story; it was a grim reality they’d witnessed.

She felt pain for the families of the deceased workers.

The pain of losing a loved one was earth-shattering.

“Not going to ask about Leopold’s condition?” Lysander suddenly asked.

Thalassa’s heart jolted as she saw Lysander’s slightly raised eyebrow. His eyes were like a black hole, ready to devour her soul.

Thalassa’s heart pounded, she slowed her breathing, trying to conceal any sign of guilt. She carefully asked, “The two who died were workers, and he’s not a worker. He must be one of the three injured.”

She tried to give the impression that Leopold’s situation had nothing to do with her.

She’d seen Lysander’s possessiveness before.

If he found out there was something between her and Leopold, the one in trouble wouldn’t just be her, but Leopold as well.

Lysander remained silent, staring at her as if trying to see through her soul.

Thalassa braced herself under his deep, sharp gaze. The immense pressure was like an invisible stone bearing down on her. She tried to resist, but her strength was insignificant. The invisible stone was about to crush her.

She was barely holding on.

“Have you showered yet?”

Just as she was on the verge of breaking, Lysander suddenly changed the subject.

The tense atmosphere eased instantly, Thalassa quickly replied, “Not yet.”

“Together,” Lysander said, wrapping his arm around her waist, leading her towards the bathroom.

Thalassa wanted to refuse. She didn’t want to shower with him. But his grip around her waist was forceful, dominant, even oppressive.
