Chapter 810

Evelyn quickly caught on to Thalassa’s hint and did not pursue the topic further.

“I’ll go whip up some meal. Lysander, you should stay and have a bite to eat before you go,” Evelyn suggested, swiftly changing the subject.

Without waiting for Lysander’s reply, she turned on her heel and made her way toward the kitchen.

She was intimidated by Lysander’s inherent authority. Even saying a single sentence to him seemed to throw her off balance. Fearful of rejection, she chose to retreat to the kitchen instead.

Thalassa turned to look at Lysander, meeting his deep-set eyes. His gaze was so intense it made her heart flutter uncontrollably.

She quickly averted her gaze and said, “You sit and rest for a while. I’ll sweep up. There’s a lot of debris around. Don’t want you to step on something and hurt your foot.”

She picked up the broom and continued her task.

Even with her back turned to him, she could feel the weight of his penetrating gaze on the back of her neck.

Thalassa appeared calm as she swept, but inside, she was a bundle of nerves.

She was worried about what Evelyn had said earlier, afraid it might have angered Lysander. His gaze made her feel like danger was lingering in the air.

She had no idea when it would explode and was at a loss.

She pressed on, sweeping the floor while enduring the feeling of a dagger at her back.

Suddenly, Lysander stood up, causing a ripple in the peaceful atmosphere.

Thalassa sensed it instantly and straightened up, her eyes darting towards him, not wanting to appear disrespectful.

“I’m leaving. I’ll come to pick you up in the afternoon the day after tomorrow,” Lysander told her before striding out.

Thalassa followed him to the door, watching as he descended the stairs. Only then did she return to her house.

With Lysander gone, the oppressive aura in the room was finally lifted. Thalassa felt her stiff shoulders relax, and the tension in her nerves ease. When she continued sweeping, her movements were much lighter and more relaxed than before.

At this moment, Evelyn emerged from the kitchen with a dish, only to find an empty couch. “Thalassa, where’s Lysander?” She asked.

“He left.” Thalassa continued sweeping the shards on the floor and replied without looking up..

“Why didn’t you ask him to stay for a meal? After all, he did help us just now. We should at least thank him with a meal,” Evelyn admonished, blaming Thalassa for not being more hospitable.

If Thalassa had known how to please Lysander and capture his heart, she might be able to marry him in the future.

Of course, Thalassa was fully aware of Evelyn’s motives.

With a sigh of resignation, she said, “Mom, you’re overthinking this. He’s used to meals prepared by professional chefs. Our humble fare wouldn’t suit him.”

The implication was clear with her simple statement.

Evelyn understood immediately. Lysander was a man of high status with equally high standards. Their modest living conditions could hardly held his interest.

She wanted to use the opportunity of this meal to probe Lysander and see if he had feelings for Thalassa. However, now she realized that she was simply daydreaming.

Evelyn stood with her mouth agape, a whirlwind of thoughts and unspoken grievances swirling in her mind. But seeing Thalassa’s slender figure, she swallowed her words.

She returned to the kitchen to finish preparing the meal.

Soon, Evelyn finished preparing the meal, and Thalassa had tidied up their cluttered home.

Many things were broken in the upheaval. Items they had once been reluctant to part with were now tossed out.

Things were always kept because people could not bear to throw them away, even if they served no purpose. However, this attachment seemed to have lessened when they were forcibly destroyed and must be discarded.

The heartache was not as acute as expected as these things ended up in the trash.
