Chapter 819

“Ah, it’s out of my hands,” Evelyn sighed abruptly. She’d just had a brief visit with her grandchildren and it tugged at her heartstrings to see them leave so soon. But she couldn’t do anything about it.

Times have changed.

The kids used to be hers and Thalassa’s; their meals, their playtime, their bedtime, everything revolved around them. They were free to take the kids wherever they pleased.

Now, the kids were taken away by their father. Everything depended on his whims.

Knowing that Thalassa had fought hard for this opportunity to spend time with the kids, Evelyn cherished these moments of playing with them.

By 10 p.m., Evelyn said, “It’s getting late and you all should head home to bed. You can come over to grandma’s again during the holidays.”

“Grandma, I want to sleep with you,” Elowen said.

“Me too, I want to sleep with grandma,” Sophia raised her hand.

“Me too!” Dorian chimed in.

“Same here,” Atticus surprisingly didn’t mind sharing a bed with the others.

Seeing the kids’ eager faces, Evelyn couldn’t help but smile; her eyes were welling up with tears as she said, “My dears, if only grandma and your mom had a place of our own. This place is too small; we only have two rooms and the beds are small too. Plus, this is a rented place so you never know when we’ll

be kicked out. You kids will have a more stable life with your dad, with an independent room for each of you. It’s much more spacious.”

Evelyn knew it was best for the kids to stay with their father, Lysander, as he could provide better living conditions and better futures for them.

The kids had already gone through tough times with them for four years; it was enough to break Evelyn’s heart.

Hearing Evelyn’s words, Thalassa felt a pang in her heart. That was right. She still didn’t have a place of her own.

This was a rented place, and if the landlord decided to take it back, they would have to move overnight and live a nomadic life. Elowen pouted, “I don’t mind sharing. I just want to sleep with grandma.”

“I don’t mind either,” Sophia added.

Dorian and Atticus nodded in agreement.

Kids were simple-minded so they didn’t care about the conditions at all; they just wanted to be with the ones they loved.

“My darlings, your dad is waiting for you downstairs. You can come over during the holidays; Grandma will papercut lots of toys for you,” Evelyn tried to convince them.

Hearing that Evelyn would papercut more toys for them, they didn’t insist anymore and left happily.

“Can I take my paper boat home?”. Elowen asked, tilting her head.

“Of course,” Evelyn answered as she patted her head affectionately.

The four kids took their beloved toys and went downstairs with Thalassa.

They waved goodbye to Evelyn as they got into the car, and she waved back with a smile.

Lysander drove off.

The summer night wind, warm and gentle, blew in through the car window, tousling Thalassa’s hair and making her eyes tear up.

“Mom, why are you crying?” Sophia asked, nestled in Thalassa’s arms; her voice was full of concern.

Lysander glanced in the rear-view mirror at Thalassa.
