Chapter 993

Susan’s words dripped with the tang of envy, her voice sour as a lemon.

That night, as Susan stumbled out of the bar, she witnessed Lysander wrapping his arms possessively around Thalassa, their lips locked in a kiss that was both domineering and inseparable.

Inside the dimly lit VIP lounge, Susan had tried every trick in the book to seduce Lysander. She practically threw herself at him, flaunting her most prized assets to catch his eye.

However, he didn’t even spare her a glance and at one point, he dismissively shoved her aside with his foot!

The memory of that humiliation made Susan’s blood boil.

It was all because Lysander had eyes only for Thalassa, leaving no room in his heart for any other woman!

It was all Thalassa’s fault!

Thalassa shot Susan a cold, dismissive glance.

Bruce stepped in, feigning a scolding tone, “Susan, is that any way to speak to our guest? It’s Thalassa’s first time at our place. Show a little hospitality, will you?”

“Guest? What kind of guest is she? Go on with your charades, I couldn’t care less!” Susan huffed disdainfully, turning on her heel to storm inside.

Out and about, she could tolerate Thalassa for Lysander’s sake, but this was Susan’s own turf. The fact that she hadn’t slapped Thalassa was a courtesy in itself, let alone being polite to her. In Susan’s

mind, that was a pipe dream!

“Thalassa, don’t mind her. Susan’s been spoiled since she was a child, acts like a baby sometimes. Not like you, all grown-up and sensible, not holding grudges, Lucy said with a forced smile, seemingly playing peacekeeper.

But her words were laced with pride, boasting about Susan’s pampered upbringing.

Thalassa, on the other hand, had risen from humble beginnings, fortunate enough just to survive without the coddling of doting parents.

Despite being older, Susan was cast in the role of the child in Lucy’s narrative in front of Thalassa.

This clearly amounted to belittling Thalassa.

Their whole family was just a household of monsters, each with their own hideous masks.

Watching their performance, Thalassa’s inner sneer was icy. “No worries. After all, it’s too late to discipline an adult with no manners. If I took offense, I’d only be troubling myself.”

Despite insisting she was unbothered, Thalassa’s words stung, implying Susan lacked upbringing and extending the accusation to the whole family. – Lucy’s strained smile froze, a flash of malice flickering in her eyes.

But when she caught sight of Bruce by the door, the harsh glint was quickly suppressed.

Still forcing a smile, she said, “It’s getting late. Please, come in and let’s have lunch before it gets cold.”

Lucy gestured towards the dining room.

Reluctantly, Thalassa made her way inside.

As she approached the door, Bruce stepped aside, making room for her to pass.

Thalassa entered without a glance at Bruce, heading straight for the dinner table.

The table was laden with dishes, their aromas wafting through the air.

What should have been appetizing scents instead churned Thalassa’s stomach, the urge to vomit surging.

She lifted a hand to her mouth, fighting back the nausea.

Thalassa, you’re our honored guest,” Lucy said briskly, pulling out a chair. “Please, take the head seat.”

Managing to quell her discomfort, Thalassa took the offered seat without hesitation.

The family settled around her, reaching for the food, but Thalassa didn’t touch her utensils. She simply sat, staring blankly ahead as if lost in thought.

Breaking the silence, Lucy suddenly asked, “Thalassa, what were you and Bruce up to last night?”
