The Birth Of A Villainess

Chapter 190 - The Culprit (2)

Chapter 190 - The Culprit (2)

Lin Xiaofei stared at the back of her uncle who was on his way to his courtyard. He hurriedly came to tell her what he heard from the female servant, however, all the words that were said were worthless to the investigation.

Instead, Lin Feng used this opportunity to probe her ability to think smartly about this situation and her trust towards Qu Xing Xu.

Her uncle must've known that it was worthless but still came to test her anyway.

Sighing tiredly, Lin Xiaofei went to the table to sit again. She massaged her temples with her delicate fingers as she tried to think of who could do this to her grandfather.

Deer poison. That was the name of the poison that Lin Xiaomeng ended up drinking after the servant served it to him. From what Doctor Fang told her, it was a poison that could only be found in the western empires, making it difficult for anyone to pinpoint who got his hands on this poison.

The Zheng empire has held contempt for the western empires and even if emperor Yun wanted to rid off of Lin Xiaomeng, he wouldn't do that while the envoys from the Chu empire.. He needed the famous General Lin beside him and eliminating him would only mean cutting off one's limbs.

However, this doesn't apply to the princes who wish to dethrone the emperor. Only those who have closely witnessed how the royal family vied for the throne and take it for themselves would suspect the princes to do this.

But who? There are thirteen princes overall in the Zheng empire. Seven of which were all ranging from the ages of three to eight years old and incapable of planning such schemes. That leaves only six princes, including Yu Fangzhu and Prince Jing.

However, only these two have clearer motives to overthrow their father quickly and destroy her relationship with Qu Xing Xu.

Wait… Lin Xiaofei suddenly opened her eyes and stopped pressing her temples. She realized that there were still some other people who wish to ruin her marriage to Qu Xing Xu.

And those kind of people were the kinds that wouldn't discriminate and would take action while thinking of the consequences nor disadvantages when they did things. The only thing that was in front of them was what they wanted.

After thinking like this, Lin Xiaofei opened the window as it was getting stuffy inside the room. The light coming from the room immediately entered the room.

But that wasn't what stole Lin Xiaofei's breath away.

Just outside the window, a man in a black robe was standing in front of her. As if there was a halo behind him, the man looked extremely handsome beyond comparison. His phoenix eyes were slightly narrowed in a teasing manner while his lips were tugging upward into a wicked smile.

"What are you doing here?" Lin Xiaofei couldn't believe that Qu Xing Xu would come to the Lin residence when they agreed to not meet until the wedding day.

Qu Xing Xu slowly pulled something from his robe and handed it out to her. "I thought you'd be too embarrassed to ask a favor from me. Thus, I decided to visit you and do my duty as your husband."

Lin Xiaofei frowned as she couldn't understand what he was saying.

Seeing her reaction, Qu Xing Xu thought that she really didn't betray his expectations as she completely had no idea about what he was talking about.

Chuckling under his breath, he opened the pouch that was the size of a man's hand and let her see what was inside it.

At first, Lin Xiaofei hesitated to look at what's inside but her curiosity won her over and forced her to see what he has for her.

Inside the pouch, there were several items that she hadn't seen in her entire life. Aside from the fact that they all resembled what you can call dried leaves or herbs that could be found in an apothecary in the market.

"How did you…" Lin Xiaofei raised her head up and stared at him.

"I heard about what happened to your grandfather. I had someone copy the ingredients that your family doctor prescribed and coincidentally, I have some of them in one of my chests in the storage." He told her as if what he had just given to her was worth more than tens of thousands of golds.

As soon as she left the Qu residence. Qu Xing Xu didn't forget to let someone follow her and monitor the people around her. Unfortunately, the person he sent didn't witness what happened to Lin Xiaomeng and only heard about when Lin Xiaomeng's attendant came running to her courtyard.

It was the same for the prescription for the antidote. That person copied the list while the doctor was done writing it before quickly sending it to the Qu residence.

Fortunately, Qu Xing Xu wasn't doing anything and wasn't outside. He was able to receive the message from his subordinate without interruptions and he quickly looked for the items that were needed to make an antidote before he personally came to the Lin residence to give it to her.

It was one thing for him to give her one or two of the things that were on the list. However, for him to acquire everything and quickly coming to give it to her was another thing for Lin Xiaofei to think about.

Just how deep were his feelings for her? Lin Xiaofei couldn't stop asking herself. For him to do this when the only thing she's done for him was to inconvenience him and stall him from his plans, Lin Xiaofei felt her eyes tearing up.

No one has ever done this to her. For them to help her unconditionally, and even if he was doing this because of his goals, no one has ever done that merely because of their fleeting adoration towards her.

Lin Xiaofei slowly took the pouch from him and softly said, "Thank you." Her voice cracked at the end because of her overwhelming emotions and she could barely even hear it herself.

However, Qu Xing Xu didn't miss it as he replied, "Go now while your family doctor is still beside your grandfather."

Lin Xiaofei nodded and turned her back to leave. She couldn't wait to give what Qu Xing Xu gave to her to Doctor Fang so he could turn it into an antidote for her grandfather.

As soon as she turned around and took a step, Lin Xiaofei surprisingly stopped and turned back around.

"Is something wrong?" Qu Xing Xu asked.

Lin Xiaofei nodded her head and said, "Yes, something is missing."

Qu Xing Xu was sure that nothing was missing from the pouch but he still trusted her words.

Since she said that something was missing, then, there is something missing. Qu Xing Xu thought to himself. "What is it? Tell me and I'll get someone to deliver it to you later," he said.

Lin Xiaofei shook her head.

"It can't wait. I need it now." She told him.

"Alright, I'll go and take it for you then." He said, "Tell me."

Her eyes were shaking a little bit but she steeled herself as she walked towards him. "Come closer, I can't tell it to you loudly lest someone hears it."

Qu Xing Xu obediently did as he was told and leaned forward. He was wondering what was the last thing that was needed to make the antidote and was prepared to listen to whatever she was about to say.

However, no one told him that Lin Xiaofei didn't plan to tell him anything as she suddenly grabbed his lapel.

Then, he felt her lips against his.
