Chapter 337 An Uphill Goal
Chapter 337 An Uphill Goal
"What?!" Eugene immediately jumped to his feet and Leon winced.
"I shouldn't have said that out loud." He sighed.
"What do you mean by bringing Rose back? Please, tell me." Eugene pleaded from where he stood.
"I am not sure, but we may be able to bring her to this world." Leon said. He recalled something he had spoken about with Michael, something that was off the record. About reincarnation and the cycle of life.
His reincarnation had been anything but normal, truth be told. The normal cycle took a long time, as each soul needed to be cleansed and washed of everything of their past life. Only then would they be reborn. However, Leon was very different.
With the knowledge of all this, and his curiosity and desire to meet his mother, Leon began to entertain thoughts of how possible it was to bring her back, so he could meet her for himself. Surely, she would also want to meet him?
"Are you serious?" Eugene's eyes began to glimmer with unshed tears.
"Like I said, I'm not sure, but let us see what I can do." Leon sighed again. Truly, he had lost control of his tongue this time. One of the few times he actually got a physical tongue in this world, and he went and wagged it without control.
"I see. Well, I hope that whatever you will try works out. If you need my help, then I will be ready to help in whatever way I can!" Eugene said, clenching his fist as his voice turned raw. He could already imagine it, his son, his wife and him together once again.
"That aside, I came here to check on how you were doing. I can see you are doing quite well." Leon hummed and turned back to Eugene. "I have to go back to the frontlines, but this time, I plan on ending the war. Before it ends, you will be deployed to one of the flanks along with some other soldiers. I should probably break it to you that those humans are from Earth." Leon told the older man.
"From Earth?!"
"Yes. While we were there, Michael took the liberty of stripping some gangs that were allied with the Black Fangs of their manpower to convert it to our own. They will be assigned under you." Leon explained.
"Oh, I see. I guess I can do it." Eugene rubbed his chin in thought. He had been the leader of the White Ghosts in the past and he knew how to lead a group. Fighting a war was an entirely different ball game, but he was sure he could cope with it. To make his son happy, he would do anything.
"That's good. I'll be leaving now. Take care of yourself and be safe." Leon hugged Eugene and turned to leave.
"You too. Be safe, son!" Eugene called after Leon, unable to move from his current position to see Leon out the door. Leon did not mind and closed the door behind him. He took in the cool night's air and turned to see his summons still standing around the premises.
"Leon, are you done?" Nedra walked over to Leon after seeing him come out. She knew everything that had been spoken between the father and son and looked sadly at Leon. She also knew how ridiculous the thread of hope that Leon had accidentally let slip to his father was, but she also knew that there was a chance.
Leon could tell what was going through Nedra's mind and also let out a sigh. Bringing back someone from the dead as he had always done was fundamentally different from what he had proposed to do with regards to his mother. She had been dead for a long time. He would need to reach into depths unknown to bring her back, and it would be insanely costly. If there was one thing he knew, it was that he was nowhere near ready to bring her back in his current state.
Even though this was the strongest he had ever been, it was still without a doubt that Leon was still a mortal at his core. Just manipulating Divinity was far from enough. In fact, if Leon had to guess, then he predicted that he would need to become at least a Major God before he could embark on this journey to bring his mother back form the dead.
In the worst case scenario, she might have already been reborn, and he would not be able to bring her back, as her memories would have been washed away already.
"Calm down and take a breath, Leon. We need to take care of more urgent matters before that." Nedra placed a comforting hand on Leon's shoulder when she felt him slipping into a spiral of deep thoughts.
"You are right. We need to focus on more immediate goals first. We can start with going over our new gains and advancements first." Leon nodded his head and threw those thoughts to the back of his mind. He looked to his mansion in the distance and began walking.
However, before he could get far, a White Millipede came running.
"My Lord! I have a message from the frontlines!" The young White Millipede said as he landed a distance from Leon. He immediately dropped to one knee and bowed his head.
"What is it?" Leon sighed and turned to face him as he shed his human skin and donned his imposing skeleton form.
"A messenger from the frontlines just arrived at Fort White a few minutes ago! He said that dragons have come looking for you! They request an immediate audience!" The young man said quickly without raising his head.
Leon remained silent and calm on the outside, but inside, he was rolling! Why could he not just get a moment to himself?!
"Pass on the message that I will be there as soon as possible." He calmly said and turned around, leaving the young man to take off in the direction he came from. He then continued walking in the direction of his mansion.
'Like hell I'll go there immediately! They can wait!'
