Chapter 111 - A BANQUET
Chapter 111 - A BANQUET
They expected it to be a banquet or something like that. The former General gave them a big honor at the five stars hotel, so today they had high expectations when the Intelligence Agency invited them to their headquarter.
That was the reason why they were wearing formal attires today. Even though they weren't comfortable with the attires, they intended to appear chic and classy at the banquet, so they had no other choice.
They met Blue and Jack at the lobby of the big building. They arrived at the headquarter earlier than them, but they patiently waited for them there. The two were like little chicks that were waiting for their mother—and maybe for their father as well.
After the four gathered at the lobby, one of the staff assigned for today's task escorted them to a room. They used the elevator to reach the 9th floor, following the guidance of the staff.
The four youngsters expected they were escorted to a hall where the banquet would be held, and they totally didn't expect that the staff escorted them to a small meeting room.
Did they invite them on a rainy day just for a meeting? It was truly disappointing. They were disappointed, but they didn't show their disappointments and patiently waited for further instruction.
A relatively young lady was waiting for them in the room. The lady put thick makeup and wore a red suit that matching with her red lipstick. When they arrived in the room, she elegantly got up from her seat to welcome the four honorable guests.
"Fourteen minutes," the lady spoke as her eyes glanced at the clock hanging on the wall. That statement got the guests puzzled, so she elaborated, "You guys are late. It's already fourteen minutes past the designated time."
The four youngsters were speechless as they observed the lady's rude attitude.
Who the hell was this lady? She looked like in her 30s or something. She was quite tall, probably around 170 cm. Her auburn hair was cut short above her ear. She had a pair of slanted eyes, and her thick lips were covered by the bright red lipstick. Her figure was slim and a bit too skinny. She looked like a flat mannequin in the stores.
"I'm Grace Hasler. I'm the head of the Intelligence Agency in this country. Please sit down," the lady introduced herself arrogantly before she turned around to go back to her seat. She then sat down on the leader chair in the meeting room.
The four guests were amused by the lady's bizarre attitude, but they immediately took four seats to sit down. Kevin was sitting beside Kris, and opposite them were Blue and Jack, who were sitting next to each other.
There were only five of them in the small room, and the atmosphere was so chilly. Was it the air conditioner's doing? Or it was because of the lady's cold attitude that caused the air to turn chilly?
"Do you guys know why I invited you to come to our headquarter? It's definitely not for a banquet," the lady spoke again in a cold tone.
The four youngsters swallowed their saliva nervously. It seemed that the head of the Intelligence Agency could read their mind or something. Or it was just their disappointed expressions that were too obvious so that the lady easily guessed what's on their minds.
"I want to discuss some important things with you guys. That's why I invited you," she continued as her hand grabbed a remote on the table and pressed her thumb on a button. The lights suddenly turned dim as a giant monitor in the room started playing a video.
The four pairs of eyes focused on the video right away. They were quite shocked when they got a clear picture of the video. That was a video of the new species of werewolves that had been isolated in a temporary prison. Before the antidote was ready to use, they would stay as prisoners in the temporary jail.
The Government prepared a big building far from the settlement to be a temporary penitentiary for them. Their number was over 100, and each of them was caged in one jail.
If they all were put in one cage, they surely would eat each other due to their instinct to eat meat and drink blood. The Government had to provide fresh meat every day for them to satisfy their needs. They used animal meats, of course.
"Do you see how wild they are in the prison?" Grace spoke up again after two minutes no one made a sound. "The Government is facing a hard time now because of them. The werewolves are too wild and too strong, and we don't know until when we can restrain them in that prison."
The four youngsters fell silent as their eyes continued watching the video. The video showed how wild the werewolves were in the prison. They stretched out their hands from the iron bars as if they asked for help to free them from the prison. They also kept howling like wolves, and their voices sounded so sad and miserable.
Kevin could no longer look at the video, so he ducked his head. He didn't have the heart to keep watching at the werewolves that looked devastated in the prison.
Grace noticed his behavior, so she pressed a button in the remote, and the monitor automatically turned off. The lights were also turned on again.
"Now you understand why did we invite you to this place, right?" The short-haired lady asked them a question again. Her slanted eyes stared at Kevin sharply and deeply, showing off her dominating aura.
"Mrs. Hasler, we understand your intention, but—"
"Sorry, Mr. Allaband. I was asking Mr. Beischel just now. Please let Mr. Beischel answer my question."
Kris clenched his fist underneath the table when the bizarre lady suddenly cut his speech. He then turned at Kevin, and the latter was still silent and still ducking his head.
The taller man then decided to put his palm on his lover's knee and rubbed it lovingly. Kevin turned to him but still didn't say anything.
"Mr. Beischel—"
"Just Kevin is fine," Kevin cut Grace's word and turned to the older lady. "I understand, Mrs. Hasler. I'm currently preparing myself for the extraction."
The lady sighed while shaking her head. "It's almost two weeks since the war was over. How long we have to wait until you ready, Kevin?"
Kevin couldn't answer anymore and he just stared at the lady blankly.
"Mrs. Hasler, you can't force Kevin to undergo the extraction if he's not ready. The extraction is not just a usual extraction. It may endanger Kevin's life," Kris bravely intervened in the conversation.
The lady then turned to him and stared at him coldly. "Kris—"
"Sorry, I don't remember I ever give you permission to call me by my first name, Mrs. Hasler."
The short-haired lady was now speechless when Kris suddenly cut her speech. The tension in the meeting room gradually increased. Blue and Jack, who had been silent since they entered the meeting room, now could only be spectators to the full tension show in front of them.
"This is ridiculous," the lady sneered arrogantly. "Mr. Allaband, can you tell me how the extraction may endanger Kevin's life? It's just an extraction. How can it be very dangerous for Kevin?" She asked in disbelief.
Kris glanced at his boyfriend for a moment before turning back to Grace. "I can't tell you about that, but please give Kevin some more time. I'm the one who's responsible for his safety. If someone plans to do something bad to him, then that someone has to kill me first."
Kevin was stunned when he caught his lover's cold tone. Kris used a different tone when he was speaking to the lady earlier. It was deep, sharp, and cold. It looked like there was a needle in every word that he uttered.
The needles pierced mercilessly in his opponent's heart. Yes, Grace could feel those needles stabbed through her heart. It seemed that she wasn't expecting the young werewolf to be this brave.
The cold lady could only sigh in the end. "Alright, I won't force Kevin to do something he doesn't want to do," she finally gave in before turning to Kevin again. "But please don't let those innocent werewolves wait for a long time. They deserve happiness as well. I know you have a soft heart, Kevin. I believe you can't see them like that for a long time."
Kevin clenched his fists beneath the table. The visualization of the video earlier flashed on his mind and made him shudder a little. Kris's hand was still on his knee, and it tapped his knee softly as if it was transferring the energy through the contact.
"And how about the three of you?" Grace spoke up again while glancing at Kris, Blue, and Jack. "Do you guys also not ready to let go of your powers?"
