The Blue Eyes

Chapter 163 - BASELESS RUMOR

Chapter 163 - BASELESS RUMOR

The four people in the living room were astounded by Julia's answer.

"You know about the incident?" Kevin asked the pregnant lady. A glint of hope flashed in his eyes when he asked the question.

The lady nodded before replying, "I know, but not too much." She sighed as she leaned her back against the back of the sofa. "I hadn't worked in the Intelligence Agency at the time, but I had read some secret information about it. One of the pieces of information was about the explosion in the sea between Rodein and Primea during the war eighteen years ago."

Kevin subconsciously turned to Kris, and the latter also turned to him as if he could feel Kevin's gaze.

"Then, do you know any information about the explosion?" Kris asked after he turned to Julia again.

"There was a report about the weapons smuggling back then, so the government hurriedly went to Rodein to arrest the smuggler.. But, when they arrived at the site, they got information about the explosion instead," Julia explained.

"There was a smuggling case like that, but it seems the government was taking it lightly. Am I right?" Jack suddenly butted in.

"You're not completely wrong," answered Julia. She seemed more relaxed with Jack now. "Smuggling cases were common at that time, so the government didn't see it as a big problem. In addition, the situation was so tense because of the war at the time, that the government paid little attention to smuggling cases."

"That's why the government didn't investigate the explosion further? That's why they didn't care about the victims?" It was Kevin's turn to interrogate.

Julia was startled upon hearing Kevin's question. She turned to the scientist and found the raven-haired man was staring at her with a hurtful gaze.

"The victims' family must have experienced a hard time back then. They didn't even dare to report the case to the government," Kevin spoke again as he ducked his head. "Can you help them to seek justice, Jule?"

Kevin sounded gloomy. Even though the black-haired man didn't look up at them, they knew that Kevin was feeling dejected now.

"We are helping them by investigating this case, Kev. Don't worry, the victims will get what they deserve after this."

Kevin finally looked up when he heard Kris's voice. They were sitting opposite each other, so he could see Kris's face.

Kris was the one who could understand his feeling the most. Kris was with him when he was in Rodein to investigate, and he also met the lady who suffered a lot because of the incident.

Kris truly knew how he felt, and he also knew how to comfort him even though they were not sitting side by side. Just a series of words was enough to make Kevin feel better.

"I will help, Kev," Julia finally responded. "I will look for more information about the incident. But, should I report the incident to Mrs. Hasler? I believe she can help them more than me."

Hearing the word "Hasler" made Kevin's body tense. The image of the medusa lady flared in his mind.

"Don't do that, Jule," Kevin immediately replied. "For now, let's keep this matter a secret. Don't tell anyone about it."

Julia frowned as soon as Kevin finished speaking. "You also suspect Mrs. Hasler?" She asked.

"We can't trust anyone now, Jule. Mrs. Hasler is not an exception," Kevin replied.

Julia was still silent after she heard Kevin's reply.

"But, I'm curious about the medusa lady," Jack suddenly butted in, making Julia scowl at him. "I mean, I'm curious about Mrs. Hasler," he quickly corrected himself.

Julia's gaze on him was sharp, and that made Jack shrink under the gaze.

"Why are you curious about Mrs. Hasler?" Julia asked the tattoed man.

The said man gulped as he rubbed the nape of his neck. "She was so rude and arrogant the last time we met. Is there something wrong with her?" He asked timidly.

"Nothing is wrong with her," Julia answered. "She is just a charismatic woman with a high position in the government, but she is just a wife and a mother outside the office."

"Mrs. Hasler has married?" Blue, who had been silent all the time, finally butted in.

"Yeah," Julia answered. "She didn't make it public, but she has a family."

From Julia's story, Grace Hasler indeed seemed to be a normal lady, but the image of a medusa lady was still haunting them.

"Then, what about his father?" Kris chimed in.

"What's wrong with his father?" Julia asked back instead of answering.

"We heard some rumors about her using her father's power to get her current position. Is that true?"

Julia fell silent after Kris finished speaking. Her face turned dark as she stared at the floor blankly.

The four people frowned at the reaction. It seemed that the lady felt something heavy on her chest to make her show that kind of expression, but they didn't know why the lady felt that way.

"That's just a baseless rumor. Let's not talk about that," Julia finally replied as she looked up.

"How could you say that's just a baseless rumor?" Jack asked again with an obvious curiosity in his eyes.

Julia replied to the curious question with a glare. "Weren't we talking about the case and not about my boss?" She asked back coldly.

The icy tone made Jack gulp hardly. He then shifted his gaze away, no longer looking at the pregnant lady.

"Julia was right," Kevin finally spoke again. "Let's go back to our previous topic." He stared at the lady. "So, you agree to help us with the case, right? Let's investigate the case secretly without letting anyone know. We need to collect more information first."

Julia nodded in understanding. "I will do my best to provide more information," she replied.

The three men nodded their heads in agreement, but Blue was still frowning at them.

"Then, what about the Chilad case?" She asked confusedly.

Julia looked confused as well when she heard the young girl's question. "Chilad? What happened in Chilad?" She asked back.

"We were also investigating Chilad," Kevin answered. "Jack felt that both Chilad and Rodein's names sounded familiar for him, so we decided to investigate both districts. We have some findings in Chilad as well."

Kevin's explanation made Julia shake her head in disbelief. "You guys worked on your own, right?" She asked again.

Kevin could only smile sheepishly at the question. "We have to do that, Jule. We have to find the real villain before they can do something bad," he defended himself and his ally.

"I understand your way of thinking, Kev," Julia replied. "So, what are your findings in Chilad?"

Kevin didn't answer Julia's question. Instead, he glanced at Blue, giving a signal for the girl to tell the story. Thankfully, Blue seemed to get the signal.

"We found an abandoned mine in Chilad," the blue-eyed girl explained. "The mine belonged to Blacoal Company."

"Blacoal?" Julia parroted. "Isn't that the problematic company? Are you guys suspecting the company as well?"

"Not really," Blue immediately answered. "We just found the abandoned mine and thought that something was not right with the mine. It's probably not related with the case we are investigating, but we are curious about that mine."

"You guys know that the mine is probably not related to the case, but you still want to investigate the mine? Don't you think that's just wasting our time?" Julia asked.

The four people in the room fell silent. Julia was not completely wrong with her opinion.

"That's not just an ordinary mine, Jule," Kevin spoke again. "Blacoal Company is my uncle's company, and it seems he was playing a lot of dirty tricks all this time. I just want to know more about his company."

Julia looked surprised by Kevin's statement. "Your uncle is the owner of that shitty company?" She asked in surprise.

"Yeah," Kevin answered as he sighed. "He's not my real uncle. He's the younger brother of my adoptive father. I don't know much about him."

Julia was speechless as she kept staring at Kevin. She knew about Kevin's story related to the werewolves, and now she found out that Kevin was also related to the problematic company. She couldn't imagine Kevin's feeling right now.

Even so, Julia could only sigh and didn't intend to question the young scientist any further. "If you want to know more about the company, then I will help you, Kev," he finally decided.

Kevin finally looked up as he smiled. "Thank you, Jule. I originally wanted to ask my foster parents about that, but they are very busy these days. I don't want to bother them," he replied.

Julia just returned the smile and didn't say anything again.

The room was engulfed by silence for a few minutes before Blue suddenly broke the silence, "I forgot to tell you that I've done analyzing Chilad's satellite imagery, and I found something strange in the district from my analysis."
