When they turned around, Lady Wilson had already disappeared with the rest of her family.
Jacob went to several shops selling Lexington wood furniture but he did not see any sofa sets that he liked.
Elaine felt very anxious at this time and so, she proposed that they should just buy the other furniture for the bedroom and dining room first. Otherwise, they would have just made a wasted trip to the Furniture City today.
Jacob also felt that it was not feasible for them to continue wasting time like this. Therefore, they went to check out the other shops instead.
Elaine chose a bed that cost tens of thousands of dollars for herself whereas Claire simply chose a bedroom set that cost about ten thousand dollars. At this time, they also bought some furniture such as wardrobes, a dining table, and so forth for the bedrooms and the living room.
They even bought all the home appliances and miscellaneous items that they would need for the house. Everything added up to a little over seven hundred thousand dollars.
At this time, Elaine was secretly settling the score with Jacob. She knew that Jacob had about 1.2 million dollars left, so she decided to try and influence Jacob instead. If Jacob really used the money to buy the Lexington sofa set that he wanted, then he would really use up all of the money that they have. However, if they simply settled for a good set of European-style sofa, they would at least have one million dollars left.
Therefore, she kept mumbling and she tried to manipulate Jacob as she said, “Jacob, if you can’t find a suitable Lexington sofa set, then it might be better for us to buy a European-style sofa set first. When we have more money in future, then we can just buy another Hainan Lexington wood sofa set that is worth at least three million dollars!”
Jacob knew what Elaine was trying to do and he said lightly, “You don’t have to worry about the kind of sofa set that I’m going to buy. No matter what it is, I will make my own decision about the matter. After all, I have already bought all the furniture for the bedrooms, dining room, and the entertainment area for you.”
Elaine was very depressed and she blurted out, “Why can’t you listen to my persuasion? If you buy a ready-made European-style sofa set, we can arrange for it to be delivered to our villa in the afternoon! After that, we will be able to move into the villa tomorrow. However, if you continue insisting on buying your Lexington sofa set, we won’t have enough money to buy the Hainan Lexington sofa set while the Burmese Lexington sofa set is going to take too long! Therefore, at the end of the day, your quotation of 1.2 million dollars would be the highest price that anyone would offer them. They would have no choice but to sell their Lexington sofa set to you then.”
Elaine said contemptuously, “What nonsense are you talking about? Didn’t you hear what the old lady had said just now? She said that she would rather chop up the wood and burn it than sell the sofa set to us!”
“So what?” Charlie continued speaking in a calm manner, “They’re already in their poorest and most desperate state. Dad is already offering to pay them one hundred thousand dollars more than anyone else. This one hundred thousand dollars is a large sum to them. The old lady is a smart woman and as arrogant as she is, she won’t just throw away one hundred thousand dollars for absolutely no reason.”
Elaine curled her lips before she said, “Do you really think that you’re so amazing and you’re able to see through everything just because you know a little about Feng Shui? Based on my understanding of the old lady’s character and personality, I would say that she would never sell the sofa set to us because of her arrogance! If she agrees to sell the sofa set to us, I will eat that sofa set without saying anything else!”
As soon as her voice fell, Jacob’s cell phone suddenly rang. He was very surprised and he said, “My brother is calling.”
After he was done speaking, Jacob quickly answered the phone call.
Christopher spoke coldly on the other end of the line, “Did you mean it when you said that you’ll pay us 1.2 million dollars for the sofa set?”
