Therefore, Claire was very worried and nervous, started going in and out of the beauty salons that Elaine frequented.
She came to one of the beauty salons and asked the owner while showing her Elaine’s photo, “Hi, have you seen this woman before?”
The owner looked at the photo curiously and asked, “Oh, isn’t this Mrs. Wilson?”
Claire was equally astonished. “Do you know my mother?”
The owner smiled and said, “Oh, so you are her daughter. Well, she used to be my regular here, but I haven’t seen her lately. She used to come here with her friends quite often. Why? Is she missing?”
Claire nodded and asked, “Do you know any of her friends? Can you give me their number please?”
The owner gaped as if something struck her mind and blurted, “Hey, one of her friends is doing facial right now. Why don’t I call her out and ask?”
Claire quickly said, “That will be great! Thank you!”
The owner smiled. “You’re welcome, it’s my pleasure.”
The owner smiled gently. She picked up the walkie-talkie and said, “Lily, can you ask Mrs. Wayne to come out for a minute? Tell her that Mrs. Wilson’s daughter is here, she wants to ask her something.”
A response came quickly, “Alright, Mrs. Wayne said she’ll go out now.”
Claire waited for a while and saw a chubby and burly woman walking out with a mask on her face. Her face was a little too broad for the mask to cover the entirety of it, which made it somewhat hilarious.
However, Claire was not in the mood to laugh at other people. She was hoping desperately that she could get some information and clues about her mother from this woman.
Mrs. Wayne eyed Claire as she walked up to her and asked, “So, are you Elaine’s daughter?”
Claire stood upright and said respectfully, “Hi, Auntie Wayne, I am Elaine’s daughter. May I know if you’ve seen my mother since yesterday?”
“Your mother?! Huh!” Mrs. Wayne snorted a little angrily, “I don’t deserve a friend like your mom!”
Claire quickly asked, confused and curious, “Aunt Wayne, what do you mean by this? Did you have any conflicts with my mother?”
Mrs. Wayne pursed her lips in dismay. “Oh, I don’t dare to have a conflict with her. Yesterday afternoon, I called her up and asked if she was interested to do a facial with me, and do you know what your mom said?”
“What is it? What did she say?”
Mrs. Wayne chided furiously, “She said that I have no place to do facials with her, I don’t deserve to be her friend! She even said that going to beauty salons to do facials is what people like us do. She wants to buy the entire salon that will serve only her alone! She even wants to draw a line with us!”
Then, she looked at Claire and asked, “Tell me, your mom is too much, isn’t she? We are all friends. I simply invited her for a facial session together, but she literally insulted and ridiculed me, she even said that I am a poor freak and she will have an enormous wealth unimaginable! What does it even mean? Does she get rich all of a sudden? Is that why she can look down upon us?!”
“If you despise me so much, just don’t take my call! Why do you have to insult me? Did I get on your nerves? Who are you to insult me? Oh my God, I’m so pissed!”
