55 They Can’t Fix It but I Can
The clan head’s face turned red, pointing his finger at Zhao Chuchu while breathing rapidly.
“Calm down. You’ll be the only one who suffers getting all exasperated.” Zhao Chuchu shot him a look.
“Zhao Chuchu. Y-you…”
“Be reasonable, Third Granduncle.”
The clan head’s chest heaved up and down as he glared at Zhao Chuchu.
Niu Tongsheng feared that Zhao Chuchu might aggravate the clan head’s anger beyond his limit.
“Chuchu, how’s Guitang doing?” Trying to lighten the atmosphere, he remarked, “Your Third Granduncle has got a short fuse because of his worry for Guitang. We belong to the same village. Try to keep it down, okay?”
Zhao Chuchu raised a corner of her lips. “Well, that depends if the Zhaos would keep their mouths shut or not.”
The clan head gritted his teeth, looking as if he would tear Zhao Chuchu into pieces.
“Chuchu, how’s my father doing now?” Zhao Meilan questioned impatiently.
“Oh, hold on.” Zhao Chuchu turned to look at Niu Tongsheng and gestured a shape. “Chief, can you please get me two planks around this size?”
“What are you going to do with them?”
“I need them.”
Zhao Chuchu did not want to give further explanation.
She noticed that the doctors here seldom held the fractured bones in place after reattaching them. They would leave the recovery of the patient’s legs to fate.
Niu Tongsheng found two pieces of wood planks in a flash.
Right then, Zhao Chuchu called Madam He and Zhao Meilan in and wrapped the splints to the legs to keep them in place.
“He should be resting on the bed in the meantime. I will come over whenever it’s time to replace the medication. He should be able to start walking again in three months.” Zhao Chuchu lifted her head and informed the two of them after she was done with the dressing. After that, she filled them in on the things they needed to know.
Other than the mother and daughter, Niu Tongsheng and the rest also came in to check out the happening.
They were all astonished by Zhao Chuchu’s dexterity.
It appeared to them as if she had practiced them countless times before.
Madam He expressed her gratitude, saying, “Chuchu, don’t worry. I will never allow him to do something so devious ever again.”
“Hmm. I hope you’ll keep your promise. Otherwise, he will truly become an invalid next time.” Zhao Chuchu nodded. “He will be in great pain once he wakes up later. I can’t help him with that. He’ll have to bear with it!”
Although Zhao Chuchu had painkillers, she didn’t want to give those drugs to Zhao Guitang.
The pain he suffered during that period would help him remember his wrongdoings even after the physical injury was healed.
“I know.”
“Well, then. I’ll take my leave now. Let me know at once if his condition worsens.”
“Okay. Thank you very much.”
Zhao Chuchu did not know how to respond to that since she was the one who broke his legs.
At last, she bowed her head and left the house with Niu Tongsheng and the rest.
Niu Tongsheng asked, “Chuchu, can Guitang’s legs get back to normal?”
“Yes.”
“But I’ve heard the doctors say that it is incurable!”
“They can’t fix it, but I can. Just like with the plague.”
“You really are exceptional.”
Zhao Chuchu played a smile on her face.
Right after Zhao Chuchu left, she noticed Old Man Zhao waiting for her at the roadside.
Upon seeing her, Old Man Zhao got up and traipsed toward her. “Chuchu, could you please go back and help fix your eldest uncle’s legs as well? Will you let him off the hook now that you’ve already beaten him? Otherwise, what can we do about the mouths to feed?”
Zhao Chuchu stared at the elderly man who had been wimpy all his life. Although he did not treat the original owner badly, Madam Yang was the decision maker in the Zhao clan. So, he was basically useless.
For instance, Madam Yang arranged the original owner to be married to Xie Heng for a sum of money. Even though the original owner begged for his help, he remained taciturn and docile after Madam Yang told him off.
“Chuchu, grandpa begs you.” Old Man Zhao continued softly, “Now that Zhizhi is gone, their family will crumble if he becomes crippled.”
