Chapter 71 - 71 Emancipation Proof

Chapter 71 - 71 Emancipation Proof

71 Emancipation Proof

“What? You can cure his eyes?” Madam Yang did not believe Zhao Chuchu, thinking the lady was lying.

Zhao Chuchu shrugged. “It doesn’t matter if you believe me or not. In the end, the one that’s becoming a cripple is not my husband. It’s all up to you.”

Madam Yang looked at the piece of cloth covering Xie Heng’s eyes and started to wonder if Zhao Chuchu could really cure his eyes.

Thinking of what the doctor had said about her sons, they would permanently become cripples if they couldn’t get help soon. She couldn’t bring herself to gamble that.

“Fine!” The woman gritted her teeth. “I’ll sign the emancipation proof! But, you’re not getting paid!”

“Is that so? It looks like you don’t want them to walk again.” Zhao Chuchu chased Madam Yang out and slammed the door closed.

In the end, the anxious one was the woman and not her.

Even if that would stop her from establishing her own household, she was sure she could do it another way. In the end, she was a skilled medical professional.

The only reason she asked for the emancipation proof was only that she didn’t want to go through all the trouble. It’d be easier if she could establish her household in Lengshui Village.

Madam Yang looked at the shut door, and her rage had risen even more. After a few seconds, she returned home angrily.

The moment she stepped through the door, all she heard was the painful grunts of her sons and their pleas just to kill them.

It pained her to hear that.

They were their children, after all.

Old Man Zhao sat under the eave with a troubled expression. When he saw her wife return, he quickly got up and asked, “What did she say?”

“What do you think?” The woman roared. “She said she wants 50 silvers and an emancipation proof to cure their legs! Is she really your granddaughter?”

Old Man Zhao didn’t say anything, but he scolded in his head. “Why are you making it sound like she’s not your granddaughter?”

“Just give her what she wants! Do you want to see our lives end here?” Zhao Baogen roared. “I don’t want to be a cripple!”

“Son…” Tears rolled down the mother’s cheeks.

“Mother, please!” Zhao Baogen sobbed. “Give them to her. I don’t want to lie in bed for the rest of my life!”

Madam Yang felt conflicted.

If she gave Zhao Chuchu the emancipation proof, then she’ll never be able to control the lady again.

It was hard to give that up as Zhao Chuchu was a walking money-making machine.

Old Man Zhao noticed what his wife was thinking and sighed. “Just give it to her. Even if we don’t do this, we can’t control her forever. Have you ever thought about what would happen if our sons lost their legs?”

“Fine! Why are you making it sounds like I don’t want them to get better? They would never end up like this if not for her! If I knew how cruel she is, I would’ve killed her the moment she was born!”

Madam Yang continued to scold, but she eventually went to the clan head for the emancipation proof.

“No! She’ll always be part of the Zhao clan!” The head refused.

“You old fart! Do you want to kill my sons? Fine! I’ll go and tell everyone that you’re the one who ordered them to rob Zhao Chuchu! We’ll all die together!” Madam Yang yelled.

That angered the head, but he was reluctant to be on Madam Yang’s wrong side.

After a moment of awkwardness, the other clan members eventually managed to convince the head to sign the proof. They invited Niu Tongsheng and other elders of the village to do that.

Once that was done, Madam Yang revisited Zhao Chuchu with the proof and 50 silvers.

How she looked at Zhao Chuchu felt like she was trying to kill the lady with her glares.
