The Cursed King

Chapter 73 - Alex Misunderstands Elise

Chapter 73 - Alex Misunderstands Elise

While it was obvious that Elise was beautiful and also dressed in respectable business attire, the receptionist didn't simply take the woman's word for it. If anything, this was very suspicious for the receptionist.

A woman just suddenly coming to see Marc? Why wasn't security doing their job properly? The receptionist received a headache from this situation.

"Please take a seat, Miss. There's a waiting list for CEO Marc Sanderman so we'd have to check and verify the list first," The receptionist curtly said.

"Oh, okay…" Elise smiled sheepishly.

Elise wasn't sure if this woman was informed about the arrangement since Loriel and Marc only conversed about it with her last night. It was a sudden thing and Elise doubted it was quickly disseminated to everybody in this office.

Elise tried again. "I've been mostly asked to head directly to his office though. Can I just get the floor number—"

"You've heard me, Miss. We can't just believe everyone claiming to have an appointment with the big boss Marc Sanderman. Please don't give me any more trouble when work's barely started." The receptionist frowned at Elise.

Elise sighed inwardly. "I apologize, but we've only discussed it over dinner last night so I'm not sure if it was informed immediately to you."

The receptionist didn't know if she wanted to laugh aloud. Was this woman saying that she and Marc enjoyed dinner last night? Surely this woman didn't expect her to believe that kind of crap, right?

"I told you that I'll be checking the appointment list, haven't I? I'll do that, so why don't you take a seat." the receptionist snapped at her.

"Yes, I understand." Elise winced and stepped back.

This was something Elise was nervous about… She could only hope that Marc did have her on the list.

A couple more employees passed by Elise and the receptionist. It couldn't be helped that they noticed the small commotion happening. A couple of them eavesdropped on it and quickly began to whisper at one another.

"Appointment with Mr. Sanderman himself? Very hard to believe." The woman whispered to her friend.

"It's not really trustworthy to take someone's word for it."

"Did you hear what she said about dinner? Gosh, some people."

"Totally unbelievable. If she's someone that our boss dines with, then shouldn't she be meeting with Marc directly instead of staying here?"

Elise did her best to pretend that she didn't hear any of them speak a single word. She allowed the receptionist some space to look at the appointment list and yet Elise wasn't actually holding out hope for that.

The thought of texting Loriel came to Elise's mind. Maybe he could help her?

But Elise quickly dismissed it and pushed the thought away. She already made the decision to be more responsible for her own actions so she'd stay here and wait for the receptionist to do her work.

Surely it wouldn't take too long?

If anything… Marc would realize that she wasn't around yet and find it suspicious?

Alex stepped into the lobby of Sanderman Group's office building and quickly saw that a woman was standing around and looking confused.

Alex wasn't exactly running late to meet up with her boss, but the sight of the peculiar woman made her stop from rushing to the elevator and catch the next trip to the top floor.

Why was someone like her just standing around lost?

After interacting with so many people, Alex thought she was a good judge of important people and it seemed like this lady was one of them.

Although the way that this woman carried herself didn't exactly make it that way.

Alex passed by the woman and quickly approached the receptionist.

"What's with this lady just standing around? Have you not been able to deal with her concerns?" She whispered to the receptionist.

The receptionist quickly looked up and saw Alex's face. "O-oh, good morning ma'am Alex!" Her gaze quickly flitted to Elise and she grumbled underneath her breath. Why was the woman still there?

She should have gotten the hint but now the receptionist was being reprimanded by Alex. The receptionist rubbed the back of her neck and sighed.

"Sorry, ma'am. This woman has been pestering me about having an appointment with Mr. Sanderman. I've checked the list but she isn't on there… I don't know why she's still here loitering around like a fool."

Alex glanced over her shoulders and pursed her lips. "That's not a very nice thing to say, you should at least inform her that she wasn't on the list so she could leave."

But judging the woman's beauty and appearance… along with the slightly fretful appearance, a certain scenario popped into Alex's mind.

Was this one of those women that Marc slept with for one-night stands? This was not the first time, a gold digger came looking for Marc, saying she was pregnant with his baby and wanted him to take responsibility.

Gosh, that boss of hers was such a womanizer. Yet, he was always careful not to get anyone pregnant. Those women in the past were all proven to be lying gold-diggers and he was not hesitant to counter sue them for slander.

However, this woman looked so sweet, and not the gold-digging type. Was Marc really involved with her and this time he really got his karma?

Maybe she was really pregnant and just wanted to let him know about it, but Marc had been avoiding her call. So, she took the last resort of coming to his office?

Alex chewed on her bottom lip and resisted the urge to sigh and rub her face.

It wasn't hard to imagine a naïve and beautiful woman such as this sweet lady falling for her boss and then giving up their first time with him.

Was that what happened to this woman?

Alex might have guessed that this woman was some kind of heiress, actress, or a top model that slept with Marc. Although her boss would also sleep with anyone just pretty too right?

Alex eventually sighed and took out her phone. She didn't want to keep the poor woman waiting all day for her dick of a boss. She rang up Marc and called him.
