It had been over two minutes since Hao Xuan had thrown Zhurong into the containment field. He tapped his finger on the glass door of the next containment unit, waiting for something to happen but there was no response.
"System, whats the condition of Specimen 'D'?"
Hao Xuan asked impatiently.
"No change in Specimen 'D'."
"What?!" Hao Xuan frowned. That shouldn't be possible. He knew exactly what those specimens were, it was not possible for there to be no change.
"Is there a camera in Containment Unit One?"
"Negative."
"Is there any way for me see what's going on inside?"
"Affirmative. Sensors can create a 3D image based on received data."
"Alright, do it!"
A whirring sound came from the ceiling of the room and a hologram was projected in mid-air.
It showed a small glass vial which was sealed from both ends with a glowing crystal. In the middle of it was a gold circular drop. It was neither solid nor a liquid and kept changing shapes as if it was alive.
About three feet away from the container, a white kitten was sleeping peacefully.
".....seriously?" Hao Xuan was literally speechless. How could that little brat sleep under such conditions?
Zhurong might not know what that gold substance was, but Hao Xuan knew all too well.
Poriverse had collected both Specimens 'G' and 'D' from a battlefield about fifteen thousand years ago.
This battlefield was located in another dimension, one that Poriverse was only able to find due to sheer luck. It was a sealed space but he was able to pry his way in after several hundred tries.
This 'battlefield' held thousands of broken planets and several suns.
And in the middle of this battlefield were the remnants of two beings that had caused all that destruction.
Most of their bodies were destroyed, leaving only a few organs intact. But the thing that caught Poriverse's attention was how these remaining organs reacted to each other.
Even after death they continued their dispute. The essence of these beings was gathered and refined by the chaotic Qi and energy still left on the battlefield and was turned into two substances. One was gold in color, while the other was blue. They existed only in a plasma state.
It seemed that both these beings were inherently different, and would go against one another till the end of time.
Naturally, as curious as Poriverse was, he spent countless resources to suppress these substances and take them away for further research.
After roaming the galaxies for years in search for answers and conducting numerous experiments, he finally managed to trace back their bloodlines.
The gold substance labeled Specimen 'D' belonged to a 'Berserker'.
Beserkers were an actual race that existed in the universe. They didn't have any specific physical attributes that could be used to identify them, instead, it was their power that made them into berserkers.
Under normal circumstances, a berserker's true power would remain hidden. It was only under some extraordinary situations where the person was pushed to their limits, would the power awaken on its own.
Because the one and only requirement to awaken its power was to have such a resolute and firm 'will', and a belief in oneself that nothing in this world would be able to stand in their way.
That's why Berserkers could be found in almost every conflict. By the essence of their being, they would love war and fighting. And they could become endlessly strong through it.
Berserkers were the Wargods, they were the beasts that were unleashed upon their enemies that would not stop until they were either dead, or the last one standing.
It was said that a Berserker could never have a peaceful life. And so far, no one had proved that saying wrong.
The other specimen, Specimen 'G' belonged to a type of Heavenly Dark Angel, the Nephilim. People on earth believed them to be half gods and half humans, but that was false.
The Nephilim often carried out the will of the high Heavens, punishing those who dared stand against the natural order and the commands of the Ten Sacred Heavens, so mortals made up stories about these dreadful creatures.
If the Berserkers were the Wargods of the mortals, the Nephilim were the Wargods of the divine, serving the very heavens themselves.
They harbored terrifying powers, powers that even the gods feared.
For if a God gave in to the darkness's seduction, the Nephilim were sent to destroy it.
Poriverse could not find out the exact identities of these two beings, only what they once were.
The reason for keeping these substances was if he could find someone that fulfilled the requirements, by planting the substance within them, they would evolve and become 'them'. Become a dreaded Berserker, and a horrifying Nephilim.
Out of the two, Hao Xuan had chosen to suppress the Nephilim and deal with the berserker some other way. He was hoping Zhurong might be able to pull something off, but apparently, that wasn't going to happen.
"Kick that b*stard out," he mumbled.
The containment field opened for an instant, threw out a white ball of fur and closed again. Hao Xuan quickly caught him and opened his mouth to berate him, but he had already fallen asleep.
"I swear, something is really wrong with you."
He wasn't angry with Zhurong, it was a long shot anyway. And how could he stay mad at something that cute? (Author notes)
He brushed Zhurong's fluffy fur behind his ears and under his chin, making him purr in pleasure, before sending him back to the mind palace.
He then looked up at the compartment in front and shook his head. 'Guess it wasn't meant to be'.
"Close Containment Unit One."
*Clink*
The glass door closed again.
He then checked the two middle containment units and made sure everything was still in there. The second containment unit had thousands of raw materials including rare metals, unidentified objects Poriverse found throughout his lifetime and some weapons and devices he made in his free time.
The third containment unit was used to house the main computer that controlled the entire base. It was one of five control points located on this planet.
'Let's see if what Poriverse thought about the thing in the glass tank is true or not. If it is, well, this trip will be more than worth all the trouble.'
Hao Xuan made his way back to the rightmost hallway where the giant glass tank filled with murky white liquid waited for him.
