Chapter 969 - War Effort
The figure in the back was that of a teenager with canine ears and the one in the front was a middle-aged man with numerous words of power in the shape of living tattoos moving across his body.
And under that middle-aged man's feet was the squirming body of a cultivator trying to get free.
"Y-You fucking savages! Do you think you will be able to live in peace after what you have done?! We will hunt you down to the last man and hang you by the bal- UGH!"
The middle-aged man's foot pressed down on his throat promptly making him shut up. His neck slowly cracked and bent at an odd angle as the middle-aged man continued putting in more and more force, finally killing him.
He looked back at the teenager, "Is this truly a wise decision? The majority of the corruption is focused along this section and breaking the seal will make it next to impossible to stop it again."
The teenager stepped forward into the light. His brown hair and cheeky smile especially stood out in this bloody scene.
"Gi-An, waste not your time thinking of matters beyond your control. The seal could never keep the plague at bay but by destroying it at this moment you have not only provided a much-needed distraction but also pulled valuable resources away from their war effort."
Gi-An! This was the leader of the resistance, and the teenager speaking to him was Uri, or rather the world spirit that had taken control of his body for the time being.
Gi-An's brow furrowed, "Distraction? From what?"
Uri looked in the direction of the pillar of light that was being obscured behind the great whirlpool of yin energy.
"From matters that will decide the fate of your people."
The massive 200-meter sealing array swirling in front of them finally started wobbling after losing so many important runes and began to collapse in on itself.
The ground cracked underneath and a jet black ice crystal shot out from the center of the array, breaking it before its natural end.
The array revealed a gaping hole that was almost the same size as the entire valley at the entrance of which Uri and Gi-An were standing. Uri turned around and started walking away.
"Come, let us move to the next area, our work is far from complete. Let the invaders deal with what comes up from the depths, it was meant for them anyway."
A few moments after the duo took their leave the gaping hole started to expand as numerous sticky tendrils came shooting out. Some of them even pierced through the nearby mountains while continuously expanding in length and width, creating an interconnected network that looked like a spider web from afar.
Entire portions of the surrounding mountains broke and rose into the air after being absorbed into the sticky tendrils.
At night it looked like they were floating if viewed from far enough away, which is what Dai Zhi and Micha saw.

The sun and the moons changed places a total of three times when a figure emerged from the depths of some old ruins holding a green torch. He was covered in dust and blackened masses that hung from his clothes.
"Damn it, it is moving a little fast isn't it?" he mumbled while tearing off all the pieces of his clothes that were infected by the black masses. He gathered them in a pile and threw the green torch on top of them, successfully turning them into ash and smoke.
"At least the soul flame still works, huh?" he said to himself before inspecting his surroundings.
"Hmm?"
His ears twitched. There were a few voices coming somewhere nearby.
His feet pushed against the ground and he jumped into the air to inspect the surroundings. His eyes lit up upon seeing the group of three sitting around a campfire not too far away and he landed right next to them.
"Heyoo~"
"WHO GOES THERE?!"
All three of them jumped to their feet while pointing their various weapons at him. They were all female demihumans. Two of them held long spears and the one in the center had a shortsword.
"Woah hey, little ladies, didn't mean to surprise you. My name is Jin Wang, were you perhaps sent here by an older lady?" Jin Wang said while raising his hands. He didn't even have a weapon on him and when he mentioned his name the demihumans lowered their weapons.
The girl with the shortsword stepped forward, "My name is Inara. You may call me Princess Inara," she said coldly. The two next to her were the female guards. (Ch 632)
Jin Wang gave a toothy grin, "Haha, okay okay. Why are you here princess? Where is your grandmother? Did something happen?"
His half-hearted query brought quite a grim expression on the faces of all three.
"Hoh, something really happened," Jin Wang mumbled to himself before winking towards Princess Inara, "Do you mind if we talk while walking? I want to return as soon as possible."
Princess Inara stared at him for a few seconds before sheathing her blade and turning around.
"Fine, let us leave."
