Chapter 994 - Jeopardize
It sounded like a mix between a trumpet and a wail, as if whatever it was coming had experienced pain for the very first time. And the very next moment a cacophony of horrified gasps and cries of disbelief came in through the windows.
The shaking continued until a dim white light came in through the windows at which point it calmed down significantly. The elders led by Princess Helena and Jin Wang rushed out of the main hall and out onto the open square where a large crowd had gathered. They were looking at the sky, aghast.
Princess Helena followed their line of sight and saw something that she would not ever forget in her life. The sky had been torn open and a darkness was trickling down to the ground. It was such a bizarre scene that even after seeing it in person the majority couldn't wrap their minds around it.
"B-By the gods, what is happening...?" Elder Har muttered to herself.
And right in front of their eyes the black masses raining down from within the tear increased in intensity until nothing on the other side could be seen. Next to the supervolcano this entire landmass was created around, the tear was almost 1/10th of its size.
And considering the volcano was connecting the sky and earth and basically holding the entire inner world together, it was a safe bet to say that the tear was at least a few hundred kilometers in length.
Jin Wang's eyes narrowed as he jumped up and landed on top of the bone cage that was the ceiling for the city of the Argham. He pushed lightly against the bones and once again shot up into the sky.
Looking down he could see a giant light blue-colored bubble of light encompassing the entire city but he managed to pass through it effortlessly. Everything around the bubble was still shaking as before which meant this bubble was shielding Argham and its inhabitants.
In fact, from far enough away, the bubble looked like a pair of ethereal hands that were placed over the city to protect it.
"I guess this is part of the enchantments then, a 7th circle spell. I'm guessing you woke up little lady, should have slept a bit longer," he muttered under his breath.
Only one person could have done this, the Grand Priestess. Despite her own fragile condition she was risking her life by casting such a powerful spell.
Jin Wang's body flew through the air, through several layers of atmosphere until he could see the true shape of the black masses raining into the land below. His eyes widened from shock since even he had not expected such a thing to happen so quickly.
"The spawn of corruption. The first stage is already complete, and from the looks of it quite some time ago."
Each black mass was a creature, once either a human or a beast of some kind that had gone through multiple evolutions within the puss-filled cocoons of the inner colony. Their body and soul were changed from the inside out until they properly aligned with the definition of the colony's brain of the most efficient killing machine.
And now they had come out as something completely different, something whose sole purpose was to reap more lives and bring the flesh back to the colony for consumption.
Each black mass was surrounded by a thick layer of viscous liquid that dissipated as they slowly fell to the ground, finally popping like a balloon upon hitting the ground and releasing the creature inside.
There were hundreds of them falling every single second, an actual rain of death and destruction.
Jin Wang could do nothing else. If he took action right now the Abysswalker would sense his presence and would put up his guard or worse, attack prematurely. Neither of these situations could be allowed to come to pass.
With just a single at the horde that was forming on the ground Jin Wang knew that everything outside the city of Argham was lost. The spawn of corruption would take every living being back to the colony and there wasn't much he could do about it, not without jeopardizing everything he had worked for.
*UUUUUUU*
Another wail rang out from the sky as numerous golden runes swarmed towards the tear from all across the inner world. Each one shining more brilliantly than the last, creating a thousand new formations by themselves.
They attacked from the sides, swarming the tear with their own ethereal light and pushing the corruption back into the confines of the prison.
From afar it looked like golden stitches in the sky trying to close the tear and they were successful to a great degree, managing to shorten the size of the tear from hundreds of kilometers to less than fifty in a matter of seconds.
The world was trying to heal itself and it looked like it might even succeed until the tear reached a little over 10 kilometers in length.
