Chapter 188: My princess
Chapter 188: My princess
Chapter - 188
Slowly, Jessica, Rebecca and the old man made their way down. Both the girls were on either side of the old man as Jessica provided him with the support.
This was the second time did Alex came across the old man. Frank, if he remembered the name right, was there with Jessica at the police station. It was when Jessica was arrested after they had just come back from their trip to Ullu regarding the disappearance of the man who wanted to kill her. It was at the same time that Alex heard something peculiar about George.
And things changed after that. For one, Alex grew a bit cynical towards his father. He felt that his father was much more than what he actually let on. Now everything George did, made Alex think of the worst-case scenario.
As for Frank, Alex could see that these few months have actually taken a toll on him. The old man had suddenly aged significantly. Frank had gone from walking around with pride, with his head held high, to walking around with support. And Alex had a feeling that it was all because of that phone call that day at the police station.
While Alex tried to analyse the situation, the trio was already at the foot of the staircase. A man was already there with a wheelchair waiting for them.
Frank sat in the wheelchair while Rebecca pushed him towards the people in the hall. Jessica, on the other hand, walked closely beside them.
Everyone was here to meet Frank. So as he made his way through the people, Frank was greeted amicably by everyone, but none tried to approach him. But there was something that intrigued Alex.
From the moment Frank sat in the wheelchair, Alex saw him stealing glances in his direction. Was he looking at him? No, that can't be the case. If that was so, Frank wouldn't have tried to be sneaky. After all, he had nothing Frank should be afraid of. But it would be different for someone else.
Thinking about that, Alex turned his face towards George, who was looking in Frank's direction as well. But despite the standing they had in the public eye, the situation was completely opposite. George had his lips curled up in a smirk as he looked towards Frank, completely unfazed by the presence of the wealthiest man.
At the same time, Jessica also spotted Alex. She whispered something in Rebecca's ear and made her way towards Alex and the family. But as she walked towards them, she had to continuously stop and make short conversations with the guests who tried to greet her.
It took Jessica a few minutes to finally make her way to Alex.
"You are here," Jessica greeted Alex.
"It has been already about an hour," Alex nodded.
"... You have already met my father. And this is my mother," Alex introduced his parents.
"Good evening, Mr and Mrs Rutherford," Jessica nodded towards George and Martha, "I hope everything is to your liking."
"You don't need to be so formal," George smiled, "We are more like a family than you could imagine," George said as his eyes drifted towards Frank, and their eyes met.
But to Jessica's ears, it meant something else entirely. She could not help but frown as she looked at Alex.
'Did he tell his family about that night?' Jessica thought. She did not tell a soul about that night, and Jessica thought the same would be true for Alex, but...
"Stop teasing her," Martha lightly pinched George as she explained it to Jessica, "Don't mind him. If he could, he would make every girl he came across marry his sons."
"Oh..." Jessica suddenly felt relieved. At least he was not a douchebag in that sense.
"Let's stop with the 'Marry our handsome sons' program for now," Alex interrupted his parents.
"... And you have also met..." Alex wanted to introduce his brother, but Damien interrupted.
"Un... un... un... I am sure the pretty lady remembers me," Damien took a step forward and spoke with a smile, "This face is hard to forget."
"I remember, Um... Daniel, right?" Jessica tried to guess.
"It's actually Damien," Damien said. But when he saw Jessica was most likely to apologise, he hurriedly continued, "But I won't even mind Daniel if it's coming from someone as beautiful as you."
"I will remember that," Jessica nodded with a smile as she turned her gaze back towards Alex, "And who might this pretty little girl would be?"
"This is Annie," Alex said as he tickled Annie to make her look at Jessica.
"Annie... A beautiful name for a beautiful girl," Jessica smiled as she gently caressed Annie's back. But strangely, Annie did not resist as she did when Damien tried to hold her.
"Che... The little girl is no fun," Damien chided when he saw Jessica having no trouble with Annie.
"Well, of course, my princess is smart enough to choose wise people," Alex did not waste the opportunity to rub Damien, "Isn't that right, princess?" Alex laughed, rubbing his nose fondly with Annie's as the two of them enjoyed each other's company.
"Your princess?"
