Chapter - 86

"Umm... umm... Alex..." Margaret wanted them to stop, but Alex was in no mood for that.

"Whatever it is, we will talk about it later. Right now, I am in a mood for something else," Alex interrupted her. He caressed her back over her top, and with a swift movement, Margaret was beneath him.

"But... uhmm!" Margaret tried to ask, but Alex gave a soft kiss on her lips, "Your mother?" Margaret asked.

"She won't be home tonight... uhmm!" Alex said and kissed her again, "I was about to head to your home when you gift wrapped yourself to my door... uhmm!" Alex was giving Margaret kisses after every sentence they spoke.

"Why were... you... coming to... my... Will you let me complete?" Martha, with her hands, pushed Alex a bit away from her, making some distance between them, "Will you stop with all those kisses? You have taken my first, second, third and God knows nth kiss too. Let's talk it out first," Margaret said. Her hands were shaking as Alex's weight was totally lifted by her.

"That was your first kiss?" Alex was surprised but then laughed, "Don't lie. Look, I am not really concerned about your previous relationships. Sure, I will feel a bit jealous, but I am not one of those who care about it a lot."

"What?" Margaret looked at Alex with her brows raised, "Do you think I am lying?"

Alex, when saw her looking at him with sarcasm all over her face, the flower of doubt sprouted in his heart, "Not that I think you are lying, but seeing how beautiful you are and with all the..."

"All the...?" Margaret pushed Alex off of her as she sat, taking support of one of the arms of the couch, she asked, "All the what, Alex?"

Alex also adjusted his clothes, 'Nothing is going to happen tonight," Alex thought. He took the other end of the sofa, and now the two of them were looking at each other face to face.

"You know..." Alex was hesitant to say the rumours circulating about her.

"Uhuu?" with her arm supporting her head, Margaret leaned on the couch and looked at Alex for some explaining.

"Not that I care about them. Not in the least, but I am sure you are aware of the rumours circulating about you in the neighbourhood," Alex finally said. For some reason, he was less apologetic. If it was earlier, he would have been hesitant, beating around the bush and trying to divert the topic instead of bluntly acknowledging what he was thinking about.

"What type of rumours?"

"Don't play dumb. I am sure you know about them," Alex said as he gave a dry laugh.

"No, I don't. And even if I did. I want to know about them from you," Margaret had a smile on her face when she said that, but it was not pleasant.

"Well, if you wanna know it from my mouth, I am fine with that, Alex said, "But I want to be clear about one thing. I have never been a part of these gossips and rumours. I don't care if you believe me or not, but I had to clarify."

"Oh," Margaret looked at him with an expression of being impressed, "So, what are the rumours about me?"

"About that..." Alex hesitated. He fiddled with his fingers, trying to find the right words which were not that blunt and hurtful. Margaret was also patiently waiting for him to begin.

"... You should know that people like to talk. There is a rumour going around that you married an old man for his fortune, and after his death, you are enjoying his wealth, hunting young men for pleasure. Well, this is the most prominent one of the rumours. There are others as well."
"Auhhaa... Is that so?" Margaret said as she stretched her legs. As soon as she did, her top slid above her navel, and her slender waist was in sight. Alex gulped at the sight of that slim waist without an extra ounce of fat. He slowly shifted towards her.

"So? Do you believe them?" Margaret asked.

"I... I... never did," Alex said, inching closer to her, "I was only jealous of that guy sometim... huh?" Alex was about to reach her when Margaret stopped his advances as she placed her soft foot on his chest.

"But why should I believe you? You might think of me as the same loose and easy woman the rumours describe me as," Margaret was slowly getting back the flow of conversation in her hand, “I am sure you just want to have a one time thing with me right now.”

"I never did," Alex denied the allegations right away, "I always cared about you. I even prepared dinner for you." Alex said, “I have never cooked for anyone but family and those I care about.”

"Wasn't it because I dropped by at your house?"

"Not that time. Didn't mom give it to you? I asked her to do so," Alex said as he pondered, "It was the same day you invited me to your house," Alex made Margaret remember. His hands, on the other hand, were busy massaging her feet. He was surprised by how soft and boneless her feet felt compared to his bony ones.

Margaret was amazed by the sudden revelation. She felt that Martha was the one who shared the food with her. And even Martha didn't tell her that it was Alex behind the sudden kind gesture.

"So what? Do you want me to be indebted to you after that? Or are you trying to show that you did a favour on me?" Margaret asked as she pulled back her feet from Alex's embrace. She was playing the game of pull and push with Alex. She would show certain gestures to reel him towards herself, but when he tried to get too close to her, she would push him away.

"You are going the wrong way. Take a U-turn and get back to the topic. That's not what I was hinting to you." Alex said as he took her hand in his to try and make her understand.

"Ohhoo... So I am the dumb one here, not able to understand this simple language?" Margaret has decided not to take any of his words the right way.

"That's not what I meant, Margaret," even Alex was getting irritated of explaining her, "But if you want to think it that way. You are free to do so. I won’t waste my time explaining myself."

"And I will take it that way. It was my mistake to come here," Margaret stood up as she finished and made her way to the entrance of the house, “You even find talking to me a hassle now.”

"It was my mistake to open the door for you," Alex was not going to back down anyway, "Girls are queuing in front of me to spend a day with me. Do you think I will care about what you think?" Alex said as he watched Margaret storm off.

“Girls and their tantrums,” Alex murmured.

But suddenly scene changed in front of his eyes. Maybe memories deep within his brain tried to overlap on one other. Margaret's back changed with someone else's. A girl in black was walking away from him in a dark, long tunnel that was bright at the very end.

'I told you not to follow me. I have no relation with you or anyone else,' A voice rang in his mind. Alex tried to cover his ears as to not hear anything, but the voice grew stronger with each second.

'This is my revenge, and I won't stop until either he is dead or I am.'

Breathless, Alex tried to call for Margaret, but he couldn’t even let out a squeak to get her attention and before long, she was gone. Clutching his head in pain, Alex crouched on the ground and soon passed out in the living room itself.
