Chapter 148: The family of three
Chapter 148: The family of three
Ark's rage was not something to be taken lightly, and as he saw the small girl shivering in pain on the ground, covered in her own blood, he was beginning to get really pissed off. But this time, he wasn't the first one to lose control. As he had been trying so hard to keep himself in control, Ark was still able to maintain his rationality, though it took almost all he got to keep himself back.
The same could not be said for Ephine or Atar.
Ephine was a little busy trying to hold Ark back if anything were to happen, but Atar was different. He didn't really understand it himself, but when he saw the young girl getting attacked, he felt like he needed to do something. Without any warning, Atar suddenly pounced!
The guards surrounding the young boy could do nothing but watch in horror as their young master was suddenly killed in the blink of an eye in front of them.
The guards knew that they were screwed, but if they didn't at least take this wolf's head back with them, then this would probably be their last day alive. Seeing the guards staring at him with ferocious expressions on their faces, Atar realised that he had made a mistake. There was no way he would be able to fight these guards all alone.
If not for the element of surprise, he wouldn't even have been able to kill their young master in the first place, but now that he had done it, he needed to face the consequences.
Luckily for Atar, he wasn't alone. When the guards were about to encircle Atar, a few arrows could be heard whistling through the air. One of the guards was too preoccupied with Atar, and he wasn't able to protect himself in time, as arrows of different elemental attributes tore him to pieces. Ephine showed herself this time as well, these guards weren't allowed to harm her son, no one was!
The guards were beginning to grow nervous as they saw another wolf kill one of their comrades.
What was the extent of these wolves' strength? Would they be able to handle them without any more casualties? Or would they have to suffer even more? Since there was nothing else to do, and since there were only 5 of them left now, they quickly decided to split up, three of them facing off against Ephine, while the other two decided to take care of Atar.
This definitely relieved some of the pressure on Atar, but it still wasn't enough for Atar to be able to win by himself.
He had enough strength to contend with them for sure, but they were far more experienced than him, as he was still only a cub, albeit a fairly big and strong cub. The family of three that had just been walking along the razors edge were dumbfounded. What was going on right now? More importantly, they had a chance to live! Not only that, but their daughter had a chance to live!
The young girl was anxious, as the lashing had suddenly stopped.
She didn't want the cruel men to hurt her family, and so she anxiously lifter her head to see what was going, and what she saw was enough to blow her mind. The cruel men that had just been hitting her were now suddenly in the middle of fighting two wolves. One of the wolves was fairly small and it was standing right in front of her.
The wolf was just about to be attacked by the two men, when a blinding light suddenly erupted.
Ark who had been trying his hardest to hold himself back didn't expect Ephine and Atar to suddenly step forward to protect these demons that they didn't even know, but he was proud of them for standing up for someone who couldn't protect themselves from such cruel torture.
As Ark had been tortured down in the dungeons of the Estridsen Kingdom's palace, all he wished for was to be saved by someone, and he knew that these people probably felt the exact same way.
Seeing these bastards try to gang up on his precious new family, Ark finally gave in. He materialised a long golden spear in front of himself, which he kept suspended in mid-air for a second or so. The spear was infused with enormous amounts of light mana in that second, before it was sent flying forward.
The little girl only a saw a bright light appear in front of the young wolf, and the cruel men just disappeared into thin air.
Before anyone could really react to the outcome of the attack, Ark suddenly disappeared from where he had been standing. The guards who had been approaching Ephine all suddenly tumbled over, their heads rolling on the ground beside them.
From the family's point of view, in the blink of an eye, every guard had suddenly died, and another wolf that was covered in blood was suddenly standing in front of them.
The wolf was bigger than the other two, and it was quite obviously the father of the small wolf. Ark turned to look at them, and he started to walk closer. As the family of three saw this, their expressions sank, they had been so excited at the thought of getting to live another day, but it seemed like it was probably just their wishful thinking in the end.
Ark's eyes glowed golden as he gazed at the young girl.
Though she was supposed to feel scared, she felt at ease upon seeing Ark's gaze. Though he was covered in blood, the look in his eyes somehow seemed gentle for some reason, and the young girl couldn't really do anything either way even if she wanted to, therefore she just decided to sit still and see what was going to happen.
The parents were not as carefree as their daughter, and they wanted nothing more than to see her alive, gambling with her life was nothing they wanted to do.
Seeing the domineering wolf walking closer, the parents knew that it was now or never. After nodding at each other, they both yanked their hands as they could, successfully removing the sword that was restraining them. As the guards had died, the mana that was infused into the sword had scattered, which meant that they could attempt this escape.
But as they did, their hands were mutilated in the process. They were already in bad shape after being pierced through, but after yanking their hands as hard as they could to escape, their hands suffered even more in the process. Ark wasn't very pleased upon seeing this, but when he saw them both pick up swords to try and protect their child, he smiled a little to himself.
This was how he imagined parents should be like, strong, unyielding, and never backing down from a fight to save their child.
It was quite the display, but Ark wasn't out to get them or anything like that, he just wanted to heal them up to good health, and then just leave them to their own devices. If anything, Ark just wanted to sleep.
