Chapter 187: Petty Noble Creates Petty Trouble
Chapter 187: Petty Noble Creates Petty Trouble
The journey home was a bit slower this time, as they were all pretty tired, but they still arrived after about half an hour of travelling. The atmosphere when they walked down the dimly lit streets of Moonhill was actually pretty nice, as the lights along the road provided a sense of comfort and warmth in the cold dark night.
Ark was pretty drained of energy, and since they still had time left in their human forms, they decided to eat at a restaurant once more.
Even though the allure of a homecooked meal in the evening was pretty strong, Ark didn't feel like cooking right now. As they walked around town looking for a nice restaurant, they noticed a peculiar store that stood out from the rest. This particular restaurant was still brightly lit even though it was already dark outside, and the atmosphere looked pretty jovial from the outside.
The name of the establishment was the Lighthouse, which was a pretty fitting name.
Even though it was beginning to get late, the restaurant was still filled with people, which was a great sign. Since no one was against it, they decided to dine here for the night. The service was great and the food tasted good, the only problem was probably that it was a bit too noisy for Ark's taste, but since everyone else seemed to be enjoying themselves, Ark didn't really see it as a bad thing.
After eating a large steak, Atar had regained a bunch of energy of his lost energy, and he was practically jumping up and down as they left the restaurant. When they had merely taken a single step outside the restaurant, Atar seemed to jump into something, and a large thud soon echoed throughout the silent street. Before Ark could even react, a row of vulgarities rattled his eardrums.
"WHICH FUCKING BASTARD JUST PUSHED ME?"
As stunned as he was, Ark instinctively stood in front of Atar, and used some wind mana to keep the man's spit from landing on him. The man looked a little stunned to see Ark standing in front of him all of a sudden, but he soon kept on shouting vulgarities, as if he was trying to prove something by doing so.
"I'm sorry for bumping into you, my eyes didn't adjust to the darkness in time."
Even though it was only an excuse, Ark still tried to be as polite as possible, since Atar was the one who had bumped into the man after all. Ark knew that Atar didn't really understand that he should apologise for bumping into someone, so he just took the blame for now, he would teach Atar some manners when he had time later.
Although he would normally help the man get up from the ground, Ark didn't appreciate his temper, and just let the man get up by himself. Even a saint wouldn't like it if you cursed at them.
Seeing Ark's handsome face smiling apologetically at him in the dark, the man became even angrier, envy is a scary emotion. Since the man stared at him ferociously, Ark had a pretty easy time seeing what he looked like. To be frank, he was quite ugly. His nose was flat, his lips were thin and devoid of colour, and his eyes looked sinister. And his short height was like a little cherry on top.
The man was of noble lineage, and he was used to being above others. With his two guards by his side, he could basically do whatever he wanted, and his family would cover up his crimes for him. He wouldn't usually do anything too drastic, but he liked humiliating commoners and having people looking up to him and flatter him endlessly.
"Do you think some shitty apology is gonna sav-"
Before he could even utter the entire sentence, he could feel a cold blade against his neck. Shifting his eyes, his sight fell on a beautiful sword resting against his neck, with a few drops of blood trickling down onto it. After spending enough time in this new world, he had grown tired of empty threats from nobles with no actual power. Anyone who threatened those he cared about was better off dead.
"Honestly, I think my shitty apology should be good enough for someone like you right?"
Ark's cold gaze seemed to pierce straight into the man's soul, and he felt a shiver run all the way through his body. With a shivering voice, he couldn't even look Ark in the eye as he spoke.
"D-Do you know who I am?"
His guards had also reacted by then, and pulled out their own weapons, which were shining in different colours due to being coated with mana.
"Who you are? I don't think you understand the situation you're in right now, do you know who I am? No? Then don't try to threaten me with your paltry family name, unless you want me to kill you right now."
The man, presumably a noble, gulped down his saliva, he had never encountered a situation such as this. People would always cower when he told them his family name, but this man in front of him didn't even let him say his name. No matter how arrogant he was, in the face of death, he immediately swallowed his foul words, and stared at the ground nervously.
Since he didn't want the man to create unnecessary trouble for him, Ark decided to leave him with a threat. "I'm gonna let you live, but if I find out you or your family tries anything funny, you're going to be the first person who dies, understood?"
"U-Understood!"
In the next second, a spark of electricity seemed to flash in front of him, and before he could react, Ark was gone. A faint sizzling mark appeared on both his guards' necks, proving that Ark could've taken their lives and disappeared without them even knowing.
To the noble's surprise, not only was Ark gone, but his companions had disappeared into thin air too, as if the entire encounter just then was only an illusion.
In reality, Ark had told them to leave earlier with his telepathy, and neither the noble nor his guards had the guts to take their eyes off Ark, so they could just walk away without being noticed. The reason Ark told them to do this was that he wanted to leave the noble with a bit of a psychological scar.
If he ever saw them in the future, he would know that they could kill him and disappear in the blink of an eye, which would deter him from creating trouble. And who knows, maybe the noble could turn over a new leaf and learn to not create so much trouble for strangers?
Even though Ark had already left, the noble and his guards just stood there for a while, dumbfounded. They had never been stunted like this before, it was as if they had run into a brick wall. Seeing someone playing with their lives as if they were merely ants left quite an impact on their narrow and short-sighted minds.
After a while, the noble seemed to come back to his senses, and he immediately started shouting vulgarities at his guards...
