Chapter 96: You Want To See What Slaughter Is?
Chapter 96: You Want To See What Slaughter Is?
Since he couldn't use his light element, Ark decided to use the next best one, his Ice element. The rest could only feel his immense killing intent as well as all the mana stirring around him. Ark took a little time to prepare this move, he wanted to make sure that there was no escape if he was going to attack.
From the people of the holy church's point of view, they could only see the clouds above them gently stirring, before they were suddenly torn apart. Close to a hundred large swords made out of ice were flying at an intense speed in their direction with the help of both the wind and lightning element.
The ice swords were like sudden bolts of lightning that struck down on the holy church with all their might.
Not many could react to such an attack coming out of nowhere, and as the swords descended, many lost their lives. The original number that came close to almost one hundred elite guards of the church was reduced to less than 40 in an instant. Behind them all stood a fair maiden, the leader of this attack, as well as the important person they had to protect.
With beautiful blonde hair and charming blue eyes, she would be called a beauty almost wherever she went. Ark had seen a little better before, but it didn't matter to him anyway.
When she saw more than half of her guards drop dead, and a large amount of blood seeping into the ground, she lost her cool for a couple of seconds. When she regained her bearings, another sound suddenly appeared. Almost like the sound of an arrow travelling at high speeds, the sound quickly came closer to the group.
They all stood at attention, no one dared to be careless for even a second, lest it took their lives away.
Of course, they didn't know, but no arrow was coming. What was coming was something far worse. A light erupted above their heads, and a streak of light hit the ground amongst them. Ferocious flames erupted from the epicentre. The flames instantly consumed whoever stood in their path, and horrid screams started echoing from amongst the troops.
Only a select few could avoid the fire, and they instantly retreated with their young miss.
What struck the ground you might ask, Ark's spear did. When the flames settled down, all the people from the holy church could see was a majestic spear sticking out of the ground. The spear shone with a holy light, shocking them even further. Why would someone with a holy artefact attack people of the holy church?
When they looked a little closer through the smoke and ashes, they could see a young man standing imposingly on the spear.
The only reason Ark did this was to instil some fear into them, and it worked splendidly, as these people thought he looked like some form of a master. He jumped off the spear quickly and ripped it out of the ground with one of his hands. He walked up to the people of the holy church, with a reasonable space between them.
The young lady saw him stop a little bit away, and mistook it as him being cautious. "Who the hell are you huh? You know you'll die just like everyone else here? I'll slaughter you and your entire family!"
This random guy had come and killed almost all her most impressive men, she would surely be punished when she returned, and it was all because of this random bumpkin.
When Ark heard what she had to say, even though he had no family, and he had never had any family, he was still angry. He kept his calm though, he wouldn't be provoked by something like this, that being said, he would kill every single one of them nonetheless. He took half a step forward. "You said that you're going to slaughter me? I'll show you what slaughter is!"
Toward the end of his sentence, Ark almost roared, he had been asleep for far too long, and when he was finally awake again, something like this happened, he was enraged! After his shout, he grabbed his spear with both hands and thrust it out straight in front of him. He had been preparing this move for a little while, and it wasn't simple by any means.
The air around the people of the holy church contorted and held them in place, forcing them to take this spear attack head-on.
The unfortunate thing was, did they stand a single chance against this attack? Ark had already spent a lot of mana, but that was still just about half of his mana pool, he had more than enough for these people. The spear erupted with astonishing might, arriving in front of Ark's foes in half a second. Devastating wind ripped everything in its way apart as Ark's spear travelled through his foes.
Their miserable screams didn't make a single sound. Ark had control of the wind after all. How would the sound waves travel if not by the air? Even if he didn't, who would even have the time to scream?
Body parts and blood was all that was left of the haughty girl and her followers, this is what happens to those who don't know who they're dealing with. Being arrogant and careless was an easy way to lose your life in a world where strength was everything. Especially if you don't have any strength of your own. The heavy stench of blood and death was a little nauseating, but Ark didn't really mind it.
This was life in this world, if you don't have the strength, you can only be trampled beneath other's feet.
Ark was about to go after the other people of the church, but after seeing the dragon descend in the stronghold, and hearing the miserable howls that ensued, he calmed down. He still felt a little strange when he killed people, it wasn't like he hadn't gotten used to it, it was the opposite. He felt like he got used to it a tad bit too quickly.
He didn't fret over it though, it was a positive thing, after all, being burdened by killing would only bring troubles in the future.
Since he had mana to spare and the smell of blood was pretty disgusting, Ark burned all the bodies with fire magic, washed the place clean with water magic, and used wind magic to scatter the ashes and the smell into the air. The more he used magic, the more fascinated he got. Even though entertainment was on a completely different level on earth, Ark still enjoyed this life more.
Being through life and death and gaining friends was very stressful, but also very rewarding at the same time. Most importantly, Ark could feel that his life at least had some meaning in this life, he didn't feel like a nobody.
Enjoying the cold weather, Ark just sat down and relaxed his mind for a minute, before he picked himself off the ground, and headed for the stronghold. He still had some mana, and he was sure that people needed healing.
