Chapter 23 - I’ll Come Clean
Chapter 23 - I’ll Come Clean
Looking at the bank card in front of him, Augustus smiled wryly.
Sure enough, this was bound to happen sooner or later!
"Actually, it's because I cured Doctor Zander's grandson's illness. The money is the payment from him."
Jeanne was his wife, so he did not intend to hide anything from her.
Unfortunately, Jeanne did not buy Augustus's explanation.
"But didn't you already reject Doctor Zander yesterday? Even if you really did go, how could you have cured a disease that Doctor Zander couldn't?"
"Of course I could cure it. It was just a malignant melanoma. It's not a difficult task for the new me!"
Jeanne was speechless for a while after hearing Augustus's explanation.
"Melanoma is a terminal disease. No one in the world can cure it, but you're saying that you cured it easily? Augustus Cross, do you think I'm stupid? Hurry up and tell me the truth!"
Jeanne's eyes narrowed, clearly angry.
Augustus was exasperated. He was telling the truth, but Jeanne did not believe him.
"Fine, I'll come clean. This money was from my investment."
"Investment?"
"That's right. I've been saving the allowance you gave me in the past few years and invested all that money in Bitcoins! The value of Bitcoins has multiplied many times over the past few years, and only yesterday did I sell all of them at a high price and exchange them for cash."
When Augustus finished explaining, he looked at Jeanne apprehensively.
After all, that reason was complete bullsh*t. He was just afraid that she would not...
"Then you should've just said that in the first place! You even dared to lie to me! You've grown guts, haven't you?"
Augustus. "..."
"Sorry, I was wrong. I won't do it again!"
Augustus took the initiative to admit his mistake.
Jeanne snorted coldly and sat down on the large bed.
With the elasticity of the spring mattress, Jeanne's ample bosom bounced and Augustus was caught in a daze.
"Tell me the truth. How much did you sell?"
"Not much. The total is just over five million."
Jeanne thought of something. "In other words, apart from the two million you gave me, you used all the remaining money to buy a car?"
"Uh, yes…"
At that moment, Jeanne was completely speechless.
Augustus used his business acumen to earn more than five million at once, so Jeanne originally regarded him in a new light, but unexpectedly, he lost all that money in an instant!
What business acumen? He clearly had the brain of a pig!
Seeing Jeanne no longer suspicious of him, Augustus let out a long sigh of relief. Fortunately, he managed to fool her. He really did not know how to explain how he got 100 million overnight.
They spent the night without a word.
Early next morning, Jeanne drove to the company.
When she arrived at her office door, she saw a large mountain of items piled up in a mess. It was all her belongings!
Jeanne pushed the door open and saw someone sitting in her seat.
Iris Harrington!
When Iris saw Jeanne, she smiled coldly.
"You're just in time. From today onwards, you're an ordinary employee of our sales department. Your desk is over there!"
Jeanne looked over and frowned.
The position Iris arranged for her was just under the air conditioning vent. It was freezing cold even in the summer and sometimes water would leak from it.
There was no one sitting there, but Iris deliberately arranged a spot for Jeanne there. She was clearly making things difficult for Jeanne!
"Iris, don't go too far?"
"Too far? I don't think I am."
Iris looked smug. "Let me make this clear. Now that I'm Sales Director, you sit where I tell you to sit. If you don't want to, you can resign!"
"You…"
Jeanne clenched her fists in anger.
She had never allowed herself to be bullied, but the current situation was an exception. If she resigned, her family would have no way to live.
Furthermore, Jeanne Harrington was not a woman who easily admitted defeat!
Only by reclaiming the Sales Director position from Iris's grip would she be rid of the hatred in her heart!
Jeanne stopped wasting her breath on Iris and turned around to pick up her belongings at the door.
However, there were too many things, and they were scattered all over the place.
"Director Harrington, I'll help you!"
The employees came to help.
However, Iris shouted sternly, "Help? Do you all have nothing better to do? Also, there's only one Director Harrington in this department, and that's me, Iris Harrington. Whoever calls someone else that can get out of the company!"
Hearing those words, the employees were so scared that they did not dare to make a sound.
Jeanne's face was icy cold as she silently picked up the things on the ground by herself.
Seeing Jeanne, who used to lead the sales department ended up in this situation, everyone felt very uncomfortable.
For the entire morning, Jeanne never took a break. Iris dumped almost all the work from the sales department to Jeanne, making her so busy that she barely had time to breathe.
Not only that, the cold wind that blew overhead chilled Jeanne's body and she almost caught a cold.
Jeanne knew what Iris was thinking. Iris wanted to use these methods to force her to leave the company so she could sit in the position of Sales Director forever.
However, Jeanne would never let Iris get what she wanted.
At night, when it was almost time to get off work, Jeanne suddenly received a call from Iris.
