Chapter 33 - I Really Don’t Know

Chapter 33 - I Really Don’t Know

A young man dressed in a suit came over looking fierce.

Skylar turned pale when she saw the man and froze in place.

"I'm talking to you! Are you deaf? Get out of the way!" The man pointed at Skylar and shouted impatiently.

"Don't be scared, Skylar."

Augustus quickly ran over and picked Skylar up.

Skylar was terrified. She jumped into Augustus's arms and burst into tears.

When the man saw Augustus, his face flashed with disdain.

"Is that your daughter? How are you a father when you don't even look after your kid? Can you afford to pay if she scratched my new car?"

Susan rushed over with a smile. "We're so sorry, Sir. We didn't pay enough attention to the child and caused you trouble."

Being at the bottom of the social ladder, Susan's first thought whenever things went wrong was to take the blame.

The man waved his hand impatiently. "Enough, I don't have time to waste on you. Keep an eye on your kid in the future. Don't let her run around and accidentally scratch someone's car!"

Augustus would have let this matter slide but the man's words completely infuriated him.

"She didn't even touch your car. Do you have to be so vicious?"

The man was offended. "Did I say anything wrong? Your daughter looks like she wasn't educated properly. It's only a matter of time before she gets into trouble!"

"You…"

Augustus was so angry he wanted to hit someone.

Just then, several people came over.

"Henry, what's going on?"

A girl in a short dress came over and froze when she saw Augustus.

"It's you!"

Her words were full of disgust.

This girl's name was Macy Jensen. She was Augustus's neighbor and always had a sense of superiority because of her good family background.

However, when she grew up, she was crushed by Augustus in all aspects, and even the medical school she attended paled in comparison to Augustus's university.

This made Macy green with envy. In her opinion, a country bumpkin like Augustus was not qualified to be better than her.

Then, Augustus dropped out of school and married into the Harrington family, and Macy finally turned her nose up at him to his face. Every time she saw him, she would mock him.

"Macy, you know him?"

Macy snorted coldly. "His name is Augustus Cross. He's that neighbor that's living in his wife's house that I told you about!"

Henry burst into laughter. "So you're Augustus Cross! I was rude! Hahaha…"

Henry cupped his hands together mockingly. It was obvious that he was ridiculing Augustus.

Just then, Macy's parents, Walter Jensen and Camille Gibbs came over too.

Today, Macy brought her boyfriend Henry to meet her parents, and the family was heading out to eat.

"Henry, I heard a quarrel," Walter spoke up.

"It's nothing big. I mentioned that this kid touched my car, but that man became unhappy."

Henry brushed the important details aside and put all the blame on Augustus.

"Is the car okay? Was it scratched?" Walter quickly asked with concern.

"Fortunately, it's fine."

Walter sighed in relief. "That's good. You'd have to handle it yourself if it really was scratched. After all, Augustus's family conditions aren't very good."

Susan was slightly embarrassed and put on an awkward smile.

Then, Camille had a lecturing look. "Augustus, we're old neighbors, so we won't bicker with you, but anyone else wouldn't have let you go if you did anything to their car!"

Camille assumed a magnanimous appearance, but it only made her look more calculating.

Augustus laughed in anger. It was true that some people got together because they share common traits. This family was simply unbelievable!

"Uncle, Aunty, forget it. Maybe he was careless because he doesn't know how much my car is worth."

"He's just a country bumpkin. Of course he wouldn't know about cars!"

Macy raised her chin, full of disdain for Augustus.

Augustus nodded. "You're right. I really don't know that kind of car! Now, please move aside. We're leaving."

Beep beep!

Augustus pressed his car keys, and the Mercedes S-Class nearby lit up.

After looking at the Mercedes worth 3,000,000, and then at the Honda Accord worth 200,000 that Henry just bought, the Jensen family's jaws dropped.

Augustus ignored them and walked away with Susan and Skylar while whistling.

The Jensen family stood where they were, embarrassed beyond compare.

They were not stupid, so they knew very well that a Honda and a Mercedes-Benz were in completely different classes.

They had just said that Augustus's family was not well off and he did not know about cars! They only felt ashamed and humiliated now.

"What's the big deal about driving a Mercedes? He's still a piece of trash that lives off a woman!" Macy scolded in a puff of anger.

"Although Henry's car isn't as good as the Mercedes, at least he earned it with his own ability. Augustus can't compare to him in this aspect!" Camille also looked down on Augustus's family like Macy did.

The Jensen family comforted themselves so they did not feel as embarrassed as they actually did.

Ten minutes later, Augustus brought Susan and Skylar to a restaurant.

Halmont Banquet was a five-star restaurant and one of the famous ones in Halmont City.

"Gus, this place is so well decorated. It must be very expensive! Why don't we eat somewhere else…"

Susan was a little intimidated by the opulent front of the house.

Augustus smiled. "It's okay. I earned some money recently. Let's eat here today!"

Then, Augustus pulled Susan and Skylar in.

However, as soon as they entered, the restaurant's personnel came over to apologize. "I'm sorry, Sir, but there are no tables available at the moment. You might have to wait a bit. There should be a table in about ten minutes."

Augustus was slightly upset. He did not expect this restaurant to be so popular.

"Okay, then we'll wait for a while."

Augustus and the others were led to the waiting area.

As soon as they turned around, they saw Macy and the others enter.

Macy was furious when she saw Augustus.

She brought Henry home today to show him off to her family, but the limelight was stolen away by Augustus. It was only natural that she was angry.

"Augustus Cross, what are you doing here?"

Augustus found her question ridiculous. "This is a restaurant. Of course we're here to eat."

"Eat? Do you know what this place is? This is Halmont Banquet. Do you think you can afford to eat here?"

"That's not something you need to be concerned about."

Macy sneered disdainfully. "That's true. Although you don't have money, you have a rich wife. Not only did your wife buy you a car, but she also gives you money to eat. I just want to know this, you're a grown man yet you spend a woman's money all day. How can you feel so comfortable with it?"

Augustus's expression sank. He was just about to retort when Susan held him back.

Susan had always been kind to people and did not like to argue.

Augustus ignored Macy and went back to the waiting area and sat down.

However, Macy and her family were also arranged to wait.

Macy looked at Augustus and smirked triumphantly.

She got a score off him earlier, but she felt that it was not enough.
