Chapter 247 Sacrificing Your Life
Everyone looked up and saw that there was a gap in the layers of clouds above their heads and the blue sky was visible. Though the gap was only a thousand feet wide, which was a needle in a haystack compared to the range covered by the Great Six Paths of Reincarnation Formation. However, the sword attack was not directed towards the Great Six Paths of Reincarnation Formation, it was still enough to give everyone a scare.
In everyone’s shocked eyes, a figure was landing from the gap above their heads. The figure’s robes were fluttering in the air, her hair was so smooth that it cascaded down a waterfall. The figure was falling from the air like a fallen autumn leaf, very immortal like. The figure looked so pure but at the same time, swift and fierce.
The figure was a woman wearing rainbow-colored robes and wielding a long sword. She landed on a treetop without looking at anyone. She looked so calm as if she had no feelings towards anything on earth. The only thing you could see from her pure eyes was the Great Tao.
Everyone looked at each other with shock.
They were impressed by her strength.
They couldn’t even get angered by her indifference.
Just like mortals would not be angry about an immortal ignoring them. Because it was supposed to be that way.
Only Bai Jingxue’s eyes lit up when she saw the figure. She was the leader of Shushan, but suddenly bowed her head and added, “I, the leader of Shushan, Bai Jingxue, am honored to meet the Sword Wielder!”
Sword Wielder.
The Sword Wielder of Shushan.
Xu Pingjing, Zhang Jiuling, Wu Jinling, Wang Sanxian and others were suddenly enlightened, but they did not feel relaxed after finding out her identity. Her strength was too strong, it was powerful enough to could break the power balance of the five Taoist sects.
Wu You, the Sword Wielder of Shushan, didn’t even blink when she saw Bai Jingxue, much less take notice.
However, Bai Jingxue was not surprised at all. She was delighted beyond measure and got up on her own. She then laughed at Xu Pingjing and others, “With the Sword Wielder of Shushan here, several monks and Li Ye are nothing! We could kill them easily without the Great Immortal-killing Formation!”
Li Ye and others raised their heads and looked at the falling thunder net.
Wei Xiaozhuang’s round neck was stretched long and thin to normal size and he murmured, “It seems that it is really powerful.”
Nangong Diyi sneered. “When that thunder net falls, our bodies will turn to dust and our spirits will be destroyed. What do you think of that power?”
Wei Xiaozhuang turned his focus back to Nangong Diyi and said bitterly, “What do we do? Just wait for death?”
Nangong Diyi patted Wei Xiaozhuang’s shoulder and sighed, then he added with relief, “We have done all that we can. Just think, even if the Buddhists kill us with the Great Six Paths of Reincarnation Formation, what then? Their eighteen guardian warriors are dead, thirty-six Arhats are gone, and the monks soldiers are also destroyed. The forces that they were relying on to go out of the world and take over the divine land had been destroyed. It doesn’t matter what happens after this chaos, because from hereon out it’ll all be our Tang people’s own affairs. It will have nothing to do with Buddhism anymore.”
“This time, we are just like the predecessors who went west up the Golden Mountain fighting to keep the ancestors’ inheritance for us. They were not afraid to die, so it doesn’t matter if we die. Guarding the divine land and forcing the Buddhists back is our responsibility and destiny. It is also our fate to die under the Great Six Paths of Reincarnation Formation.
Wei Xiaozhuang blinked, he was muddled, and did not know if he truly understood.
Nangong Diyi turned back and looked at the top of Qi Mountain. He stood with his hands clasped behind his back and suddenly smiled. He then added in high-spirit, “For thousands of years, the number of foreigners that coveted the Divine land was as many as the fish in the rivers. But no one could occupy this land. Why? Because countless ancestors and warriors were ready to die on the battlefield guarding the ancestry of this land!”
“For hundreds of years, the top masters of the Divine land left Yangguan alone with only a sword to the west. They killed their way up to the Big Snow Temple and gave up their lives generously! We cultivators of the Divine land, were born and bred here, we will die for this land. The predecessors were not afraid of the distant journey, and went westbound to the Western Regions and generously gave up their lives. Now, why wouldn’t I, Nangong Diyi, in the land of the Tang Empire, do the same when faced with foreign enemies?”
Nangong Diyi slowly drew his Awaken Sword. With determination and ferocity in his eyes, he added, “For hundreds of years, all that died under the Great Six Paths of Reincarnation Formation were top masters! If I, Nangong Diyi, die here today, I am also the top master! I will live up to my name, Nangong Diyi! I’m not going to wait for death. The top master of the world does not wait, even if I die, I’m going to die fighting!”
After finishing his words, Nangong Diyi let out a loud roar and his whole cultivation suddenly broke out. He charged forward abruptly while wielding his sword.
His speed was like wind and he turned into a stream of flowing shadow, disappearing in a flash. When he appeared again, he had already leaped high and reached the front of the 3-meter-wide purple and golden fire pillar.
With the Awaken Sword lifted over his head, and his clothes and hair dancing wildly, he shouted loudly, “When thunderstorms hit, insects would awake and all would die after three Buyue sword attacks. What bullsh*t Great Six Paths of Reincarnation Formation, take my Three Buyue swords and piss off!”
A sudden clap of thunder erupted on the ground and blasted a thousand feet range. Nangong Diyi’s body was like a wild goose, and the whole Awaken Sword sparkled streams of faint blue and purple light, making a resounding churr. It seemed to understand the owner’s mind, knowing that this was the last time to unsheathe, so it erupted with unprecedented power.
The body and the sword were a reference point and within the diameter of a thousand feet, wild winds howled causing a twister. At its center, Sword shadows spun and flew like fish scales. Suddenly, streams of hundreds of feet green sword light appeared in waves and landed on the purple and golden fire pillar!
Boom, boom, boom! Three loud eruptions that could shake heaven and earth sounded, and the purple-gold flames spread towards the two sides like waves. Once a stream of the green and purple Sword Qi erupted, another stream followed. Nangong Diyi had made the attacks with his sword. The Spiritual Qi had outlined his arrogant and unyielding figure. The alcoholic and Sword Way obsessed cultivator now looked like he could split the heavens.
Immediately after the Three Buyue swords attacks, heaven and earth began shaking. Dust and stones flared up as though it was doomsday. Then waves of Spiritual Qi came towards Li Ye and his crew, flushing them to retreat backwards.
The purple and golden fire pillar, which was solid like a wall and full of Sanskrit inscriptions, shattered like a vase. When the pillar disappeared Nangong Diyi flew backwards like a kite with a broken string. He flew over Li Ye and the others’ heads and eventually landed behind them. His landing had made a huge hole and smoky dust flared up.
Li Ye and the rest waved away the smoke and bent over the hole to look. They saw Nangong Diyi lift his upper body while spitting blood. The veins on his forehead popped and his little eyes were wide open, then he added, “What bullsh*t formation! My Buyue sword attack can cause smoke and dust everywhere, I, Nangong...is indeed Number one in the world!”
As he finished those words, his body collapsed and his head bent sideways. Silence followed.
Then Wei Xiaozhuang began crying as he jumped into the large hole. He held Nangong Diyi’s body and cried hysterically.
Li Ye was silent.
He turned around to look at the shattered purple and golden fire pillar. He found that as expected, just as the pillar had dissipated, another had landed and resealed the gap.
The thunder net above their heads was landing rapidly. It would not take long for it to land on their heads.
Li Ye took a deep breath and glanced at Li Xian and Su Emei. He then took out his Luke Sword.
Li Xian suddenly grabbed Li Ye’s hand and took away the Luke Sword. He was very serious and said, “You can’t die now.”
Li Ye looked at him sideways and tried to grab his Luke Sword. “Old man, don’t be silly; we will all die today.”
Li Xian placed the Luke Sword behind his back and said to Li Ye seriously, “I can die, I’m already dead, but you can’t.”
Li Ye curled his lips and said, “Everyone can die and everyone will die.”
“Li Ye!” Li Xian screamed furiously. Apart from anger, there was a hint of indisputable fact in his voice, “You are Prince An of the Tang Empire! The backbone of Tang state! You are the hope of Tang’s prosperity! If you die, what will happen to Tang state?”
Li Ye was a little taken aback, he had never seen Li Xian like this. He couldn’t ever recall seeing Li Xian in this state, not in his memory, definitely not after his transmigration.
With a stern expression, Li Xian took in a deep breath and added firmly, “The great Tang Empire is the greatest empire since the beginning of time. Our land is vast and our culture is renowned, all the neighboring nations pay their respects and offerings. None of our ancestors has reached such heights! Yet the Tang Empire has only been in existence for a little over two hundred years, it cannot end!”
“You are my son, more importantly you are a part of the Li Imperial Clan. The Tang Empire has raised you and paved the way for your achievements! Remember, you can die, but definitely not today! You have the ability to make the Tang Empire prosper again, but you have not done that yet. And if you die today, how will you face our ancestors?”
“Ten generations of ministers have supported and paved the way for you, and ten generations of patriotic citizens did not make all their sacrifices for you to die today. What about the millions of border soldiers who sacrificed their lives defending our land? And the hundreds of millions of people looking up to you?”
Li Ye was taken aback, he suddenly felt the pressure of a metaphoric mountain on his shoulders.
Li Xian let out a long breath and looked at Li Ye with eyes full of tears and hope. “Remember, if the Tang Empire does not restore its prosperity, you have no right to die. You have no right because you are Li Ye, and you are a part of the Li Imperial Clan!”
As Li Xian lifted his head up and saw the approaching thunder net his lips twitched and revealed a complicated smile. “I, Li Xian, is already a dead man. I was born to serve and die for this land. When I, Li Xian, was born, I was schemed and oppressed by the ministers. The hatred and resentment in my heart are strong enough to overwhelm heaven and earth. But I will never forget my intentions! It’s time to make sacrifices, and I will sacrifice my life for this land!”
As he finished those words, a stream of bloody Qi erupted from Li Xian’s body, which forced Li Ye backwards. Li Xian flew up towards the thunder net wielding the Luke Sword. He had never used that sword before, but in his hands, the sword emanated green energy and howled like a dragon.”
Li Ye also flew upwards toward the thunder net without fear. “We, two generations of Tang Empire hot blooded Prince Ans, will not both die unnaturally. Not even if the heavens fell!”
The person and the sword amalgamated into one stream of green sword light and headed straight for the heart of the thunder net.
In midair, the thunder roared and landed on the Sword Qi.
The roar of the lightning thunder was deafening and the purple light energy had covered the sun.
Li Ye stared at the scene before him blankly, but his insides were boiling.
Ever since his transmigration, all he wanted was to become an immortal. He never cared much about The Tang Empire’s rise or fall. He was waiting for chaos so that he could achieve his ambition of becoming a True Dragon.
His attitude towards this father was somewhat complicated. He was kind but also a disciplinarian. Li Ye had always held the utmost respect for him. But ever since he saw Li Xian again after his transmigration, it seemed Li Xian had forgotten about their love. However, Li Xian had helped him out on two occasions, and this time they were fighting side by side. The father and son put on a strong and intense performance on the battlefield. They both spilled blood and left it all on the battlefield together. And that was enough to forget their differences and warm their relationship.
At this moment, he couldn’t refrain from trembling having to watch Li Xian getting buried by lightning thunder with nothing but the Luke Sword.
After a while, the lightning thunder had died down and a burnt body dropped from the air. Thud! The body landed beside Li Ye and the Luke Sword also dropped with a loud clang.
Li Ye shut his eyes.
The Tang Empire, the people of Tang...
