Jasmine who finally realized who she had offended, turned pale. She lost her appetite for her food, for the food was made by Cedrick.

“Gwendolyn, did I just… cross Mr. Jenson again? Will I live to see tomorrow’s sunrise?”

Gwendolyn held back her laughter. “Don’t worry. He’s a magnanimous man who won’t hold you accountable for this, let alone someone as young as you.”

It was only then Jasmine held her chest and let out a heavy sigh of relief.

“So, do you still want to teach my servant a lesson?”

Jasmine quickly waved her hands and shook her head fervently. “No, no, no. That’s your right. I wouldn’t dare to cross the line. Mr. Jenson will definitely have my head.”

Forcing away another laugh that threatened to escape her, Gwendolyn took some food and placed them on Jasmine’s plate. “Keep eating. Get some rest once you’re done. I’ll ask Elven to take you out for some fun tomorrow.”

“Sure!”

After the meal, Gwendolyn brought the fruits she washed to the nursery on the fourth floor.

Despite how tall he was, Cedrick was seated on a short stool, rocking Zendaya’s bed as he shook the maracas with his free hand.

Putting down the plate, Gwendolyn then walked over to look at the smiling babies.

They were pink and plump, and their lashes were quivering as they blinked their bright eyes.

Zendaya, who was sucking on her thumb, beamed when she saw Gwendolyn coming closer to her.

Gwendolyn smiled in return as she wistfully pondered about the miracles of life.

Cedrick still did not turn around to look at her, however, and he continued shaking the maracas as if he was sulking.

Gwendolyn gently brushed her finger on his earlobe, she whispered, “Are you angry with Jasmine, or are you jealous of Maverick?”

Maverick…

It was a name that he had not heard for a long time.

Cedrick turned around. His dark eyes remained gentle, but his tone was serious as he said, “I’m angry about how mean Gwenny is. She could have changed the subject, but she insisted on getting an answer from Jasmine about who is more handsome between Maverick and me.”

Gwendolyn’s finger continued trailing up his ear before gliding past the spot between his eyes. Finally, she ended with a flick to his forehead.

“It’s you anyway, so why are you angry? Everyone has a terrible history. I never retaliated when the Wright family bullied me for loving you for three years at Fairlake back then.”

Cedrick fell silent.

The second he mentioned it, he saw Gwendolyn’s expression visibly darkening.

Oh no, is she going to settle old scores with me again?

Thus, he immediately put down the maracas and held Gwendolyn’s hand.

“I’m sorry. I’ve done wrong back then and made you suffer. If you still hold a grudge against me for that, I’ll go back to the room to kneel on Lego pieces!”

Gwendolyn could not bring herself to get angry at his gentle tone, but she still kept her expression a grave one as she uttered, “Give me your hand.”

Cedrick froze. “Now?” Is she going to smack my palm in front of the babies?

Gwendolyn gave him a heavy nod.

Err… All right. My priority is to keep her happy.

He then obediently reached out his left hand as if he was presenting a piece of treasure to Gwendolyn.

In the next second, Gwendolyn lifted her hand and gently swung it down on his palm.

“Do you know what you’ve done wrong yet?”

“Yes, yes!”

After another soft smack, Gwendolyn questioned, “Will you give me the cold shoulder like before again?”

“No, no. I’m already thanking my lucky stars every day that you’re not giving me the cold shoulder!”

Hearing that, Gwendolyn laughed.

When Zendaya heard the smacking sounds, her eyes flitted between Gwendolyn and Cedrick. She then started giggling.

Benedict began giggling beside her too.

The unexpected gesture took Cedrick by surprise.

As his expression darkened, he glared at his two babies.

Are they really that happy to see their daddy getting punished? Heartless children!

In contrast, when Gwendolyn saw the babies‘ smiles, her heart melted, and she added a little more force into her next few smacks on Cedrick’s palm.

Zendaya and Benedict laughed even happier.

Cedrick could only drop his jaw, stunned.

He then looked at Gwendolyn with a sad gaze. “Gwenny, even the babies are on your side. I can’t believe they want to see you be mean to me!”

Smiling, Gwendolyn lifted his hand. His palm was still rather fair–only a faint red mark colored it.

Still, she leaned over to kiss it before turning to the babies to patiently say, “Your daddy made a mistake, and that’s why he was punished. Benny, Zendy, you’ll need to keep an eye on him for me in the future to whip him into shape, okay?”

Cedrick pursed his lips.

Gwendolyn nearly burst out laughing when she registered his bitter look. “All right. I’m just messing with you. You’re so good all the time, so how can I bring myself to hit you?”

Nonsense! You always hit me so hard whenever you get mad.

Despite the thought, Cedrick merely lowered his head in silence.

After the babies were asleep, Gwendolyn finally asked Zoey to come into the nursery to rest.

Then, Cedrick held Gwendolyn’s hand, and they returned to the master bedroom.

It was then Gwendolyn asked, “How is Craig’s matter?”

“We have the results for the serum that Charles snuck out. It’s a drug that targets to destroy the nerves. Craig has been using drugs to control his mother and sister, and he even tried to get Charles to drug me too. I’ve asked Nico to gather all evidence as quickly as possible. If things go smoothly, we’ll be able to arrest him and interrogate him tomorrow.”

Gwendolyn nodded. “Yes, we should end these things as soon as possible. More troubles might arise if we leave them be. Someone like Craig doesn’t deserve to be the Newton family’s head. He’s oppressing his own family.”

“You’re right, Darling.”

His hoarse voice was seductive when he whispered by her ear.

Gwendolyn realized what he meant, and she quickly said, “Hold it right there. Just sleep. We have plenty of issues to deal with tomorrow, and we’ll need all our energy for them. No sex tonight.”

Therefore, Cedrick could only gloomily collapse onto his side of the bed.

Gwendolyn held back a laugh and reached out to turn off the lights.

Darkness enveloped the room, but the man was not going to stop. Transforming into a beast, he turned to take control of the situation.

Hunger gnawed his stomach, and all he wanted was to devour the petite woman in his arms.

It lasted until…

“Oh, ouch, ouch! Softer, Darling. It’s going to swell!”

“Be good and go to sleep. Can you do that?”

The next morning, at the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Cedrick was in the middle of changing into his military uniform when Nico knocked on the door and entered.

“Cedrick, I’ve sorted out the evidence. Neville and Swain are already stationed around the Newton residence. They’re awaiting your orders.”

Once Cedrick did the last gold button of his uniform, he turned around to face Nico.

“Okay. We’re going to the Newton residence to arrest him now.”

When he emerged from the office, he went down the stairs, his eyes fixed on the path before him. He was going to the garage to get the car.

Right then, Jasper ran over and nearly crashed into him.

“I’m sorry, I’m sorry! Sorry for that, Mr. Jenson!”

With a dark look, Cedrick questioned, “Why are you running in here? Do you not know discipline? Must you be in such haste?”

Jasper scrunched up his face and bowed as he apologized, “Of course. I wasn’t thinking straight because I just received bad news.”

Hearing that, Cedrick turned to glance at Nico. “What happened?”

Mr. Newton’s mother suddenly passed away last night. It’s chaos at the Newton residence right now, and Mr. Newton suspects that… she has been murdered!”
