Chapter 65: [The Dark Night!]
Chapter 65: [The Dark Night!]
The 18 year old prince's gaze was fixed at the balcony where Evelin was standing. Observing the situation, Evelin took out her crossbow and pointed at the prince. But since he wasn't moving, Evelin also didn't make any shot.
As for the 'king' and the guards, they panicked even more when they saw the prince's gaze was dead set on the balcony. They wondered if there was something beyond the balcony in the forest at which the prince was focused, not being able to notice Evelin's presence.
"Prince?" The king spoke but the vampire prince didn't make a single sound as it stood there. Though before any confrontation could take place, someone else barged into the room from the main gate.
-THUD!
"Sir Abroth! How is the prince- AAA!!!" A women wearing a nun like robe that covered her entire body except her head, entered into the room. She looked at the vampire prince with a scared look before she ran towards him and chanted,
"[Purification!] [Uncurse!][By the holy gods! Purify the soul of thy humble servant! Save him from the darkness of this world! Greater Purify!]"
The 'king' Abroth panicked as he shouted,"Saintess Amia! What are you doing? Are you trying to kill the prince?!!"
With a bit of fury mixed in with the panic, he glared at Amia before he turned to the guards. Though as he was about to command the guards, a voice stopped him from making any movements.
"Stop it Abroth. You are making my ears hurt," the Prince, who was previously turning into a vampire, was now healed to some extent. Even though the demonic bloodlust lingered around him, he was still much better than a few moments ago. Even his red eyes had turned blue, giving it a noble look as they matched with the blonde hair of his.
"Prince Rehan! You are alive!" Ecstatic, Abroth made a joyful expression as he called out the prince's name. Even the guards who were panicking were now much more relieved than before.
"Just barely. Thank you saintess. It seems I can live a few more days," the prince, Rehan, observed his body for a few seconds before he looked at the Saintess.
"YOU HIGHNESS!" Amia bowed on her knees before she continued," I have grave news."
Rehan's eyes narrowed as he looked at Amia before she continued," as I was charging the holy runes tonight, I sensed the presence of a high-grade vampire coming from the east."
A panic ensued on the guards' faces as well as Abroth before Rehan asked,"how strong?"
"At least a Baron Vampire," Amia answered with her expression slowly turning grim as well.
Though the prince was calm. He gave it a rational thought before he turned to Abroth and asked,"how about the heroes? Can they fight?"
"My lord. I found about 5 of them that were stronger than the others. They should be able to fight but sadly, they are mostly inexperienced. From the way they carried their weapons, it's as if they had never lifted a weapon in their lives." Abroth answered without hiding anything.
"Weak, huh?" Rehan mumbled as he looked at the window. Even though it was barely visible, he could feel the presence of someone present there. Though as soon as he focused there, the presence vanished making him narrow his eyes.
"My lord?" Abroth asked, while Rehan commanded,
"Call out all the heroes. Even if we are going to go down, let's at least give our best before we fall. Let's show them that humanity isn't something that can easily trample on."
"As you wish, your highness!" The others nodded as they began moving from there while Rehan walked towards the balcony, looking at forest beyond the city walls. Though as he focused, he found something odd… the green forest was somehow… more barren than it was before.
His eyes narrowed at the faint light coming from the forest.
'What is that?' He questioned trying to take a better look at it.
…
[Adrian's POV!]
"Just how long do I need to wait?" I thought as I switched to [Sword of Grace!] instead. Since the number of monsters were much less than before, I decided I should try and practice my sword in the meanwhile.
-Slash!
-Slash!
-Slash!
I had already circled around the city and filled most of the gap. It is pretty much midnight now, with only 6 hours remaining until the daybreak arrives. My [Gift]'s current completion reached 90% by the end of mapping, so I decided to change my objective and improve my sword stance.
It's not like I was a complete beginner either. Just that what I learnt was pretty much the basics that Invar guided me through during our free time.
-Slash!
-Slash!
-Slash!
So right now, I was trying to master the basics while adjusting my own speed and reflexes.
-Slash!
For now, I could take about 5 or 6 monsters at once, killing them each in a single slash. Though I still can't feel like I was doing it right. Just what did Invar tell me before?
[Accelerated Learning!]
'Focus on your body first,' I took a deep breath as I lessened the grip on my sword. My body, each and every part of it, I maintained a slow moving stance that allows me to feel my entire body at once.
'Feel the weight of your weapon,' I recalled the next words that he used to tell me. I then swung that sword a couple of times, trying to gauge it's weight. Perhaps it was because of [Accelerated Learning!] or was it because of [Perfect Measurement!], I was able to feel the weight of the entire sword. As a whole, as well as of each of the part.
'Feel it's motion. Feel it's depth,' I took a deep breath as I slashed one of the incoming monsters.
-Slash!
Not this. It's not this.
-Slash!
Hmmm… the slash felt too crude.
-Slash! Slash! Slash!
A bit more. I can see the flow.
-Slash!
"This!" My eyes focused on the slash that I just did. And moving that sword again, I made a few empty slashes in the air before another monster reached closer to me.
-Slash!
"Perfect," I smiled as I didn't feel a single resistance while cutting through that monster. Though this wasn't all… there was something else that Invar used to tell me. What was it, again?
I closed my eyes for a second as I felt the slight headache coming up. Though I took a deep breath before focusing. The last line that Invar told me…
'It's not exactly possible given how it takes years of experience… but the last step is… to become one with the weapon,' I recalled his exact words as I tried to synchronize my entire body with the sword.
My weight. My balance. My movements. My breath. I took a deep breath as the headache kept getting worse. A few more seconds and it will go out of control.
"Damn it!" I then opened my eyes again as I cut the incoming monsters. Surely it wasn't easy. My head was throbbing really hard as the pain became close to unbearable. A few seconds more and I would have even lost consciousness.
With a heavy breath, I fell on the ground as I used [Illusion] to hide myself again. Creating another illusion of myself, I then made that illusion run away from here. That illusion baited the rest of the monsters, while I laid on the ground taking a break, recovering my strength.
'Seems like I need to contact Invar again,' I thought as I looked in the direction of the city for a few seconds before observing the [Map]. I didn't expect much from it, but my eyes then suddenly locked on a single red dot on the map that was different from the others.
That red dot had a pinkish hue on it, much different from the deep red that other monsters had. And zooming in on that pinkish hue, I finally found the guy I was waiting for the past 6 hours.
The Vampire Baron was finally here.
…
[Location: East Forest - 5 kilometers away from the city!]
The Vampire Baron walked towards the city one step at a time.
He had long deep red hair, and skin whiter than snow. His black cornea over his red pupil, gave him a demonic look that matched with the long red coat that he was wearing. Beneath that red cloak, there was a plain white shirt and black pants, that barely had any ornamental features.
Carrying a black rose in his left hand and a red book in the other, he walked towards the city while observing the destroyed forest in front of him. He put that flower in his left chest pocket while the book vanished from his hand.
"Just what happened here? Did the Prince fight by himself? No that cannot be," the baron spoke as he narrowed his eyes at the mass destruction in front of him. Even his children, the vampirelings which should have been at least 10,000 in number, were barely 100 now.
He wasn't afraid of what he needed to face, since he was already given the order by his majesty. But looking at what was present in front of him, he couldn't help but be cautious of what he might face.
'My children might be weak but it's a different story if 10,000 of them were to vanish… was it a single person? Or was it a group?' He pondered as he walked towards the city, his steps hastened a little.
He even used a [Shadow] based skill, allowing him to reach near the city walls faster. Though he had to pause about 500 meters away from the city walls, as he undid his skill emerging from the shadow.
As for the reason, it was the person in black cloak, wearing a black mask that was sitting about 200 meters in between him and the city walls. A tense atmosphere put the Baron on edge as he understood that the culprit that he was wondering about was sitting in front of me.
The Baron was wondering what he should do next as prepared for a battle.
"Made me wait for long enough," that man in black mask spoke with a relieved voice, as he slowly raised his head, looking at the Baron with a hungry look as if he were looking at a food that arrived late on the table.
The Baron felt a sudden chill as he took a step back, before using a couple of his strength enhancing skills, as he got ready for the battle.
"Who are you?" The baron asked with his eyes narrowed at that guy, though his words made that guy even more excited as he spoke,
"So you can talk, huh?! This is good!"
And the Baron tightened his fist even more than before.
