Vol. 3 - Chapter 119 - Katariona Reunites with the Dragon King Princess on her Watch
The sea breeze blew on the deck and chilled me. Despite the clear skies, warm sunshine, and calm waves,.......
As I looked around for a place to sit, I saw someone standing on the bow of the boat.
"What are they doing? Surely they're not trying to jump overboard, right?"
"No way. ......"
Concerned, I ran to the bow of the ship.
At the bow of the ship, there were two people. They looked to be lovers. The man had his hand around the woman's waist, while the woman had her arms outstretched.
"What the... Looks like they're just flirting."
Chris cringed, huffing in disbelief.
"I Am the King of the World!"
The woman chanted an incantation of some kind.
Her voice was crystal clear and resonant. It sounded familiar.
Looking closer, I noticed that the man was wearing all black, and the woman had long platinum blonde hair that was fluttering in the breeze.
"Ah--! Isn't that Ron-sama and Sylphy-sama?"
The two people turned around. As I suspected, it was Ron-sama and Sylphy-sama.
"Yurie! Chris!"
Sylphy-sama came running up and hugged Chris and me.
"Are you two going to Hinoshima, too?"
Ron-sama walked up slowly behind her, still smiling fearlessly.
"Yes. Are the two of you also going to Hinoshima?"
"Yes. We were asked to escort this ship."
I see. They are both accomplished adventurers, so they must handle jobs like this. It's reassuring to have the two of them as our escorts.
"By the way, Sylphy-sama chanted something just now, was it a spell?"
"No. I wanted to recreate a famous scene."
According to her, there was a scene in a story she had seen a long time ago where two lovers were shouting lines that sounded like a chant on the bow of a ship.
"What kind of story is that?"
"It's a story about a cruise ship that sinks. It's not a happy tale."
Ron-sama let out a sigh.
"What!? It's a touching story! I've seen it ten times, and I've cried ten times."
Watched it ten times and cried ten times? But still, you watched it ten times? That's impressive.
"That's right! I'll tell Yurie and the rest of you about it."
"Then, how about having tea in our cabin after dinner? We would love to hear the story."
The tale was a tragic love story.
The heroine was a noblewoman traveling on a ship with her fiancé, but the engagement was not her choice, so she fell in love with a young commoner she met on the ship.
They had promised to elope when they reached their destination, but the ship they were sailing on sank in an accident.
The heroine and the young man survive the sinking of the ship, but the season was winter. The temperature of the water was well below the freezing point.
So the young man helps the heroine onto a plank and cheers her up until the rescue ship arrives, while he himself remained submerged in the freezing water. When the rescue ship finally arrived, the young man had disappeared into the depths of the sea.
"Even though the rescue ship arrived!"
"I was moved by the courage of the musicians who kept playing until the very end!"
"The heroine's fiancé sounds like the Crown Prince Dumbcrap. When the heroine had to flee, I felt sorry for her."
I empathized with the heroine when she ran away.
"Anyway, why did two S-class adventurers accept the escort mission to the ship? A C-level adventurer should be able to handle a request of this magnitude."
Leon turned his eyes to Ron as he ate the onigiri he had packed for dinner.
"Sylphy begged me to take her sightseeing in Hinoshima."
"I've been wanting to ...... munchmuch....go there for a while, but I've never had a chance to ...... crunchcrunch ...... there. I've never had the chance to go ...... gulp!"
Sylphy-sama was also munching on a couple of onigiris that I had taken out. They've already eaten a lot for dinner, but they can still eat. What kind of stomach do they possess?
"Don't talk while eating."
I heard a similar remark just recently. I wonder if it's a new trend?
"What does a ship's escort do?"
"There are monsters in the sea. But we have two members of the Dragon tribe. So the monsters won't be able to get close to us."
I asked Ron-sama a query, but Leon answered it for me.
"It's not just monsters," he said, "once you get past the waters of Findalia, it's a lawless zone. Pirates might attack us."
Ron-sama chuckled.
I've only read about pirates in books, but I know that they are bandits who plunder the seas.
"There are S-class adventurers and skilled people on this ship, so I wouldn't worry about encountering them."
Our master, Tojurou-sensei, is a skilled swordsman known as the "Sword Saint of the Wind."
Chris and I, his direct disciples, are also strong in our own right. After all, we're direct disciples of the Sword Saint of the Wind, and we have all the necessary qualifications.
It was getting late, so we split up for the night. The boat trip is a week long. We can meet again any time.
"Leon. Aren't you going to Tojurou-sensei's room?"
I was about to crawl into bed to get some rest, but Leon was curled up under my pillow as if it were a matter of course.
"Too much trouble. I'll rest here tonight."
He was already sleepy.
"You promised Father, remember?"
"That's right. Are you going to renege on that promise?"
Daaku-sama popped up from the shadows to concur.
"It's fine. I will be here, and if you are worried about me, you can turn into your cat form and sleep with me."
Daaku-sama changed into a black cat, saying, "I guess so," and curled up next to Leon.
"A white cat and a black cat, combined!"
He probably went next to Leon with the intention of restraining him, but it made me smile because they looked like cats sleeping together.
"I can't get enough of those black and white fluffy things."
Chris and I lay down on the bed with the cats between us.
We fluffed on the fluffy fur, whose breathing had already evened out.
"I can't get enough of cat-fluffing!"
"Hey, Chris. Have you ever seen a pirate?"
"I've never seen one. Only read about them in books."
We will soon pass through the waters of Findalia. And perhaps we will encounter pirates.
"I've only read about them in books. I have heard that they are scary. I'd like to see a real one."
"I hope it's a good-looking pirate like in the stories."
Not surprisingly, they encountered pirates shortly afterward.
