Chapter 43: Do You Think There Is A Soul In This World? (I)
This was the first time Ye Sui had seen the appearance of a food stamp ghost so closely; she was dressed in tattered clothes with her hair woven in two braids. Even though the ghost was dressed up clean and tidy, the food stamp ghost was malnourished and sickly in appearance, and her whole face emaciated from hunger.
Ye Sui took a deep breath: “How do you want me to help you?”
The food stamp ghost’s eyes lit up, and with a shy smile the next second, she lowered her head and kept turning her twisted braid with her fingers.
“I want you to help me find my first love.”
After the food stamp ghost finished talking, she never lifted her head, and kept staring at the ground. Ye Sui was afraid that she would look out a hole in the elevator.
This was not a good place to talk. If someone suddenly came in, they would see Ye Sui talking nervously to a can of malted milk on the ground.
And there were no fewer ghosts here than in other places. If the ghosts found out that Ye Sui could see them, they would annoy her one by one to talk to them.
“I’ll take you to my house, and we will talk in detail. Now follow me first.”
Ye Sui communicated with the food stamp ghost. She had promised to help, so the ghost did not hesitate to nod and followed her cleverly.
Ye Sui mustered up the courage to step forward, enduring her fear. She picked up the malted milk on the ground and went to the elevator. They soon went to the floor where her apartment was located.
Ye Sui quickly returned home with the malted milk. When she got back, she went to her room and locked the door. She didn’t want Chen Shu to see her speaking to a can.
As soon as Ye Sui closed the door, Chen Shu, who was in the opposite room, walked out. The door lock had been repaired and was now closed.
Chen Shu frowned and stared at Ye Sui’s door for a moment before going downstairs. Ye Sui did not know about his psychological dilemma. As soon as she returned to her room, she immediately put the malted milk on the small table.
The food stamp ghost emerged shyly, “Sorry to trouble you.”
Ye Sui: “What’s your name? And what was your first love called?”
The food stamp ghost played with her braided hair, “My name is Chen Yue, and the man’s name is Sun Jianguo. We grew up together in Baihua Village.”
According to the description of the food stamp ghost, Sun Jianguo was the son of the village chief, and Chen Yue lived next to him. The two had feelings for each other since they were young, but they didn’t say anything.
Not until Sun Jianguo had to leave Baihua village for something did he take the initiative to find Chen Yue and asked her to wait for him to return. After he came back, he would marry her.
Soon after, there was a drought in the village, which happened only once in a century, and the people in the town had to move, including Chen Yue.
Chen Yue failed to wait for Sun Jianguo. After that, she died on the road because of the famine. Therefore, she always felt very sorry and wanted to see Sun Jianguo again.
Ye Sui counted the time and then reminded her, “You know, if Sun Jianguo is still alive, he will already be in his seventies.”
“It’s okay, I just want to see him.”
Ye Sui didn’t know where to find him, so she had to go online to search for the related words between Baihua Village and Sun Jianguo. However, she had little hope.
At this time, Sun Jianguo was already the president of the Jianguo Group. The latest news stated that he was ill and was being treated in a private hospital.
After finding his whereabouts, in the afternoon, Ye Sui put the can of malted milk in her bag, took her amulet, Chen Shu, and set off.
Chen Shu was driving, while Ye Sui took the front seat. He looked at Ye Sui from the corner of his eye and worried about her body, “Are you sick? What’s wrong?”
Ye Sui held the bag in her arms and looked at the can of malted milk, “A friend asked me to visit an old man.”
Chen Shu could only sigh and returned to the state of driving with a look of lethargy. Except for Ye Sui, no one in this world could make him emotional.
The private hospital where Sun Jianguo stayed was remote and secluded. When they arrived, it was already dark.
Under the vast night sky, the hospital’s sign lit up at night, pushing the darkness away a bit. However, the tall hospital building still seemed to be hidden in the night.
Ye Sui was sitting in the car, and while looking at the night outside, she felt a little scared.
At this moment, the door opened, with a hand appearing in front of Ye Sui. She raised her head and saw Chen Shu’s earnest gaze, encouraging her.
“It’s alright, don’t be afraid.”
Chen Shu remembered that the other day when he was stunned, Ye Sui had said the same to him.
Ye Sui smiled suddenly and held Chen Shu’s hand. He then pulled Ye Sui towards the hospital building, recalling that she would not be scared whenever she pulled his hand.
The hospital at night was a place of life, death, wards with closed doors, and empty corridors.
The cold instantly penetrated through the soles of her feet. Ye Sui could feel the wind and the ghost’s breath blowing towards her face. However, since she kept on holding Chen Shu’s hand, so she didn’t see a single ghost along the way.
No matter how dangerous and terrible a ghost was, it could not draw near her because of Chen Shu’s abundant yang energy.
The elevator soon reached the top floor. Sun Jianguo was admitted to a senior VIP ward with two bodyguards standing at the door.
Ye Sui let go of his hand and said, “Chen Shu, wait for me here.”
Chen Shu nodded and obediently sat on a chair in front of the ward. He rubbed his finger, feeling Ye Sui’s lingering warmth.
Chen Shu looked down at his hand for a moment, took out his tablet, and began to deal with the unfinished business today.
“Please tell Mr. Sun—” Ye Sui walked up to the bodyguard “—that Chen Yue has a few words for him.”
After a while, the bodyguards came out and let Ye Sui enter the ward.
Ye Sui went into the room and looked into the bed. Sun Jianguo was lying there with a lot of tubes connected to his body and cold instruments beside him to monitor his vital signs.
Sun Jianguo was very ill, and his internal organs were dying rapidly. He might die in the next second. Sun Jianguo’s condition was getting worse and worse, but he still clung on to his life.
Doctors said that he was barely surviving with only one breath. They speculated that Sun Jianguo might have an unfulfilled wish which was supporting him to live.
Chen Yue had her face in tears when she saw Sun Jianguo in the hospital bed. She did not expect that when she saw Sun Jianguo again, he would already be so sick.
Ye Sui sighed from the side: “Mr. Sun, do you remember Chen Yue?”
