Chapter 325: Chapter 324: Little Snacks
The next morning, Jiang Feng went to Taifeng Building with Wu Minqi.
The few remaining radishes and the watermelon had all been carved the previous night, and since Wu Minqi wanted to carve a fine fruit platter featuring cranes for Granduncle Weiming’s birthday, she naturally needed to make the most of the time to practice.
As for Jiang Feng, since his knifework was superior to Wu Minqi’s, he was there to guide her.
In terms of carving with vegetables and fruits, perhaps no one in the entire Taifeng Building had more experience than Jiang Feng.
Back when he was still making a living by selling carved radishes, Jiang Feng could even carve figures such as battleship girls.
Although they were chibi versions.
But they really sold well, as technical universities are never short of otakus, and sometimes otakus’ money is even easier to con than women’s.
While Wu Minqi was carving the crane fruit platter, Jiang Feng continued to practice making Yun Chicken. The first attempt at Yun Chicken had not even been taken out of the pot when Zhang Guanghang actually showed up for work.
“Why have you come so early today?” Jiang Feng greeted Zhang Guanghang.
“I went mountain climbing yesterday, went to bed early, and got up early. Since I didn’t have anything else to do, I came over,” Zhang Guanghang replied as he took out ingredients from his bag to start practicing Shafu Roast Chicken.
Zhang Guanghang might be the only person in Taifeng Building who brought his own ingredients to practice cooking.
“Oh, by the way, I think I forgot to tell you, tomorrow is…”
“Ji Yue told me last night, tomorrow is Master Jiang’s birthday,” said Zhang Guanghang, “but with such short notice, I can’t think of anything appropriate for a birthday gift.”
“Granduncle Weiming said he doesn’t want any gifts, and he doesn’t like sweet things like cake. Tomorrow we will all make zongzi together, have hotpot, and in the evening my eldest uncle will cook a bowl of longevity noodles for Granduncle Weiming,” Jiang Feng said.
“Then tomorrow, I’ll cook a signature dish for Master Jiang as my birthday wish for him,” Zhang Guanghang stated. “Did you gain anything from your visit to the Benevolent Doctor yesterday?”
“I don’t know,” Jiang Feng said, keeping his eyes on the pot, and when the time came, he took out the chicken.
[Yun Chicken (Failed) B Grade]
“No gain,” Jiang Feng accepted the reality, started to clean up the mess he had made, packed the failed Yun Chicken into a takeaway box in preparation to bring it later to the Benevolent Doctor for Jiang Shoucheng as a snack.
“I have something to do at the Benevolent Doctor at noon, I’ll be back in the afternoon. I’m leaving now,” Jiang Feng didn’t forget to tell Zhang Guanghang before he left.
“You’ve been visiting the Benevolent Doctor quite often lately,” commented Zhang Guanghang.
“I made a few friends there at the Benevolent Doctor, promised to teach them how to cook. Once a promise is made, you can’t go back on your word,” Jiang Feng replied with a smile.
He certainly couldn’t say it was because he had a side quest at the Benevolent Doctor that he hadn’t completed yet, so he had to go there to make progress on the quest.
Jiang Feng went back to the changing room, changed into his clothes, and set off for the Benevolent Doctor with the newly taken out Yun Chicken. Since there was only one and he didn’t bother to put it into a delivery box, considering it a failed product anyway, and since Taifeng Building wasn’t too far from the Benevolent Doctor, it shouldn’t be completely cold by the time he arrived.
Upon arriving at the Benevolent Doctor, Jiang Feng headed straight for the emergency department.
The doctors and nurses in the emergency department mostly knew Jiang Feng, and even the nurses who had never enjoyed his cooking knew him. Seeing him arrive, they showed him the way.
“Dr. Jiang is in the break room,” said a nurse at the nursing station.
“Thank you,” Jiang Feng headed straight for the break room.
Jiang Shoucheng, along with Sun and Xu, was in the break room, slurping down instant noodles, the entire room filled with the scents of hot chili beef noodles and pickled vegetable noodles.
Instant noodles smell delicious, but they’re nothing special to eat. Having them now and then is quite enjoyable, but few could stand eating them every day.
Sun and Xu just couldn’t take it anymore.
They really wanted to toss the noodles away, but poverty wouldn’t allow it.
They also wanted to finish them, but their taste buds and stomachs wouldn’t allow it.
After much thought, they decided to seek outside help and have Jiang Shoucheng join in to help finish the instant noodles.
Jiang Shoucheng was more than happy to help with such an easy task that simply required moving his mouth, which led to the scene Jiang Feng walked in on.
When Jiang Shoucheng saw Jiang Feng arriving, holding something edible in his hand, he immediately put down his bowl and his eyes lit up, “Little bro, you’re here!”
Jiang Feng noticed Jiang Shoucheng eating instant noodles and subconsciously glanced at his phone; it was not even 10 o’clock, neither breakfast nor lunchtime.
“Cheng, didn’t you have breakfast?” Jiang Feng handed over the takeout box he was holding, “This is Yun Chicken I just made, it might be a bit cold though.”
Jiang Shoucheng cheerfully accepted the takeout box, opened it, and pushed the bowl of noodles to the side, “Just snacking on something small.”
Jiang Shoucheng took a bite of the Yun Chicken.
After chewing for a moment, Jiang Shoucheng said, “Little bro, this sweet and sour chicken is a bit sweet.”
“I’m still fine-tuning this dish; it’s a new one called Yun Chicken,” Jiang Feng explained.
Upon hearing it was a new dish Jiang Shoucheng immediately got excited. He admired his little brother’s spirit to constantly innovate and explore new recipes, so he ate a few more pieces.
“Little bro, is this dish complicated? If it’s not, how about making another serving for lunch? Just make it less sweet,” Jiang Shoucheng said, quite liking the taste of Yun Chicken despite its sweetness not being quite suitable for adults.
“Alright, I’m heading to the small kitchen,” Jiang Feng responded.
Jiang Feng first went to the market to buy the necessary ingredients. Since today’s main task was to guide Qin Weiwei in cooking, besides buying the ingredients needed for Yun Chicken, he also casually picked up a cabbage and some greens to provide Jiang Shoucheng a healthy lunch with a mix of meat and vegetables.
When Jiang Feng arrived at the small kitchen with the ingredients, Qin Weiwei was already there waiting with her ingredients prepared and washed.
Jiang Feng glanced at the ingredients Qin Weiwei had prepared; all vegetables, with no meat. It seemed Qin Weiwei was well aware of her cooking limits, knowing that stirring up vegetables was as far as she could go and it was best not to even think about touching meat.
Guiding a kitchen rookie like Qin Weiwei, who wouldn’t normally come into contact with anything kitchen-related, not even knowing the basics of grains or the difference between light and dark soy sauce, proved to be more difficult than teaching Fang Zhuoyue. Jiang Feng had to do more than just give verbal instructions; he had to stand by, keeping an eye on the pot at all times, ready to jump in and save the day.
After several close calls, Qin Weiwei managed to complete her heartwarming four dishes and a soup lunch with great difficulty, and Jiang Feng successfully completed five task progressions. It was time to start preparing Jiang Shoucheng’s lunch.
Qian Lijuan was still making soup, preparing a tea tree mushroom pork rib soup for today’s lunch. Jiang Feng took a cursory look at Qian Lijuan’s method; although he offered some verbal guidance, the results didn’t seem to be very effective, and Zhuang Lin might suffer again this noon.
Fang Zhuoyue was as usual simmering rice porridge, only this time, his posture and mood had changed. While stirring the porridge with his left hand and holding chopsticks, he was texting with his right hand, multitasking between cooking and romance.
“Xiao Fang, you seem to be in a good mood today, did you figure out the puzzle?” Qian Lijuan asked.
“I did, it just came to me last night,” Fang Zhuoyue replied with a smile.
Last night, after two dishes and a glass of wine, he shattered the whole essence of space and crawled out of the Mobius Strip he’d been trapped in endless loops.
