“——Scene 258, Bai Zhongyu gets injured.” The director shouted from over there.

Bai Lian stood with Yan Lu in a corner, quietly looking up at the actor playing Bai Zhongyu.

Behind her, Jiang Fulai also lifted his head, but the brim of his hat concealed his expression.

Seeing Bai Lian’s interest, Yan Lu explained to her. It was her first day and she had joined a script read-through, aware of this scene, “Scene 258 and 259 are connected, but we have to be in Jiangjing to film scene 259.”

Zhang Ma at her first glimpse of a film set asked, “Why?”

“Although these are two separate incidents, they happen at the same moment. The screenwriter is quite talented,” Yan Lu had thoroughly digested the script; her complexion was cold, yet her expression serious: “He wants to convey a sense of fate. Bai Zhongyu goes to battle at the age of 26, and in the following year, Emperor Jiang marries off the Third Princess to Ximo for peace. Simultaneously, Bai Zhongyu defends the northern border at Xiangcheng and is struck by an enemy’s arrow.”

Zhang Ma saw the actor playing Bai Zhongyu coughing up a mouthful of blood, his realistic acting making her anxious, “His injury looks quite severe.”

Bai Lian nodded on the side, speaking softly, “Mhm.”

Once the scene was complete, the props team pushed the lights past them, looking up impatiently at Bai Lian and Yan Lu, “Move aside, will you? Don’t block our light, okay?! Will you take responsibility if the scene doesn’t shoot well?”

Yan Lu quickly led Bai Lian a few steps back, almost pressed against the wall.

Jiang Fulai’s expression darkened.

The person in charge of the props shuddered suddenly.

Bai Lian looked down, unsure if she was indeed blocking the light, as she was not familiar with cinematography and set design.

She then turned and tried to comfort Jiang Fulai, “Hey, you’re upset about blocking the light?”

Jiang Fulai withdrew his gaze slowly, “…Heh.”

“Yan Lu,” someone called to her from the other side, “Could you get me Teacher Gu’s thermos?”

Yan Lu glanced at the thermos on the table next to her, picked it up to hand it over, but the assistant took it directly, “You rest for a bit, Yan Jie. I’ll fetch it.”

Bai Lian stood aside, quietly watching Yan Lu’s assistant helping one teacher with one thing, then another with something else, and then running to assist the crew with moving things around.

Yan Lu also found time to assist the crew with the lights.

“I’m pretty good as it is now.” Yan Lu quickly reassured sensing the mood change in Bai Lian and Zhang Ma, “Being given a leading role in such a big IP is already a rare opportunity, and I’m able to learn a lot here.”

Although Yan Lu became known for a single song, she only went from being eighteenth-tier to a familiar third-tier actor; with no capital or backers, she was no match compared to those movie kings and queens.

The rest of the crew were either queens or kings of the industry, whereas she was still a newcomer with utterly no background in the film circle.

That’s the way the industry is.

Seeing that Bai Lian had nothing to say, Yan Lu finally got a break and asked her assistant to fetch her script.

The assistant went to Yan Lu’s chair to get her script.

A man was sitting on the chair, resting with closed eyes. The assistant whispered, “Teacher Chu Yue, can you stand up a moment? I need to grab Yan Jie’s script.”

Chu Yue did not open his eyes.

Instead, his assistant playing with a mobile phone glanced at Yan Lu’s assistant, “Didn’t you see Chu Ge is resting?”

The junior assistant silently walked back, “I’ll get you a backup copy.”

Bai Lian finally couldn’t help it, tapped on the junior assistant’s shoulder, “Is that Yan Lu’s chair?”

The junior assistant nodded. In the crew, pretty much every leading actor had their own resting chair; Yan Lu had one too, although most of the time her chair didn’t quite belong to her personally.

If not one person resting on it for a bit, then another.

The chairs of movie kings and queens, however, were no one’s to even dare touch.

Yan Lu again went off to assist with props.

Across the way, Chu Yue finally opened his eyes. He sat up and the junior assistant went over to negotiate for the script.

Chu Yue’s agent took a photo after bringing over a cup and a packet of medicine, then looked around, his eyes landing on Bai Lian, “Hey you, yes, dissolve this cold remedy for Chu Ge.”

He placed the medicine and the cup in Bai Lian’s hands.

Bai Lian held the cold medicine and the glass cup.

Jiang Fulai leaned on the wall lazily, glancing down at the items in her hands, his arms crossed, his voice dangerous and cool, “…Are you going to make it?”

“Make it for his ancestors.” Bai Lian frustratingly set down the cup on the table.

Her gaze fixed on Chu Yue, who still hadn’t moved a muscle, pressing Yan Lu’s script beneath him on the chair.

Jiang Fulai raised his eyebrows lightly, his gaze lightly sweeping over Chu Yue.
