Lu Li hid behind the pillars and casted Empowerment: Stealth, along with the Atomization effect on his belt. Atomization increased his Stealth by 20%, while the special effect from his ring – Blessing of the Jungle King – gave a +30% bonus. His cape also increased his Stealth by 18%, which with the other two items combined was enough to slip past the Detection of the Boss.
If he had no bonuses, then even a level 50 monster would be able to see him, let alone a level 50 boss.
Lu Li’s cautiousness was wise; when the Boss spotted a giant wolf running into its territory, it immediately went berserk, lifting its staff over its head and charging towards it.
"****," the giant wolf cursed and as it ran away.
It dug its claws into the ground and leapt to the side, barely dodging the Pyroblast that was flying towards it.
As Lu Li had commanded, it could only continue to escape, but it couldn’t run too fast in case the boss returned. At that point, not only would Lu Li be dead, but as a summoned pet, it wouldn’t be able to escape either.
Lu Li snuck into the File Hall while the Boss left.
He didn’t spend much time looking around, since he was familiar with the strategy. There was no time for this either, as he couldn’t pin all of his hopes on the giant wolf.
Lu Li ran straight for an easel in the hall.
On the easel was a painting with two moons. There was nothing special about the painting, but there was something hidden behind it.
Suddenly, a voice sounded out next to Lu Li’s ears which caught him by surprise, and his hands froze.
"****, are you done? I’m about to die! Are you dead? There are so many monsters left and you want me to pull a boss..."
Lu Li could feel his hair standing on end, but he was quick to react. He pulled out the quest item from behind the twin moon painting; it was the "Love and Family" portrait that he had been looking for.
Run!
Lu Li hid just in time to see the Boss return angrily.
The Boss was Undead, so there was nothing different about his expression. However, from the wild air of magic around him, it was safe to say that he had failed to catch the giant wolf.
Lu Li was confused.
The giant wolf was sent out as cannon fodder but it survived?
Who was it that had spoken into his ear? When Lu Li thought about it, the voice didn’t sound like a real person. It was a strange experience, but he definitely heard and understood the words.
Was it...
At this moment, he saw that something move from the direction that the Boss had returned from. It was the injured wolf running, with two Scarlet Crusade Warriors tailing behind it.
There were possibly other monsters following; Lu Li saw a Fire Bolt fly to hit it on its behind.
"What are you staring at? Come and help!" the voice shouted again. Lu Li’s previous suspicions had been answered; the voice was indeed from this strange giant wolf.
Lu Li charged in and stopped one of the monsters.
With the help of the wolf, he dealt with them quickly.
"Ai, I still have another 3 minutes and 47 seconds to spend outside," the giant wolf sighed as it sat on the ground.
"A legendary beast?" Lu Li asked.
Although there were many races in Dawn – so many that Lu Li couldn’t quite count all of them – he had never heard of any animal, especially a summoned one, that could speak. Was this a legendary beast like the ones in the novels?
"Legendary my ***. I’m just a human, a human trapped in this body. Damn Ur, you’ve all been fooled by his appearance. He’s the most wicked wizard out there. **** his ****! How dare he seal me up in this damned book..."
The giant wolf didn’t open its mouth to speak, but its voice echoed inside Lu Li’s head.
"Are you a Mage?’ Lu Li was a little lost; he had no clue about any of this. He wondered if the person who had obtained The Book of Ur had encountered the same wolf as he did.
This was too strange. If the wolf told Lu Li right now that he was a player, he would believe this too.
Lu Li felt like this wolf had been looking down on him before, and now he understood that he wasn’t imagining things.
It was the first time that Lu Li had summoned this giant wolf; he had only used the other special effect of The Book of Ur in the past, which transformed him into a Worgen.
Lu Li was hopeful about the situation – perhaps this summoned pet would be useful.
"Mage?" the wolf asked as it shook its head, then continued, "What kind of Mage am I? I only know of one spell. Don’t you dare hope that I’m some sort of great Berserker – I’m just an average mercenary. It was a lovely and sunny afternoon..."
Either way, he was originally a "kind" mercenary who had been saved by an evil wizard from a group of beasts.
The kind mercenary immediately decided that he needed to befriend this Dalaran Mage and swore to serve and protect his savior with his life.
The old Mage agreed to the mercenary’s request. Since he was of old age, there were things in life that the mercenary could help him with.
This was supposed to be a perfect match.
The poor mercenary had met someone who could offer him protection, while the old Mage had found someone who could look after him.
Who would’ve thought that this Kirin Tor Mage, one who was familiar with summoning and shadow magic, would never give up on studying Worgen. Perhaps he wasn’t as evil as the giant wolf described. After all, he didn’t touch any forbidden arts like Arugal.
This old Mage always gave off the impression that he was against summoning Worgen.
In The Book of Ur, there were some texts that read, "I hope that there are no more Dalaran Mages who can summon Worgen – this is for the greater good. As long as no more contracts are signed, no more secrets will be spilled. These beasts do not bring us any good; they should stay in their own world forever. If they came to our world, we would be facing a disaster for sure..."
However, no matter how rational he was, he was still a Mage.
When a Mage became passionate about something, they were scarier than anything that walked this world. Their desire for knowledge was enough to bring a world to destruction.
Secretly, he began to experiment his theories on the poor mercenary that was always by his side.
